Stackridge - Something For The Weekend. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD235)

Expanded version of 1997 reunion album with three original members, this CD features the eccentric whimsy, clever wordplay and harmony laden intelligent pop of previous releases. Imagine a cross between the Bonzos and 10cc with elements of The Beatles. A stunning recording and one of the best new albums by old artists we have heard recently.Remaster that includes 4 bonus tracks and a detailed booklet.

Stackridge - Sex And Flags. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD205)

A welcome compilation of the later recordings (since their 1997 reunion) of this most quirkily English, eccentric, melodic and idiosyncratic of prog bands, formed in Bath in 1970 and closest in style to a folksier Bonzos. Founded by James Warren and Lennon lookalike Andy Davis (yes, the chaps that scored skinny tie New Wave hits in the late 70s as The Korgis), they ploughed a suitably odd furrow throughout the prog era, and their reformation some 27 years later produced some equally excellent music, following the same mixture of melodic flair and utter absurdity. Both latter-period albums 'Something For The Weekend' and 'Lemon' are represented here in this fine cross section of tracks, including 'Sliding Down The Razorblade Of Love' 'Something About The Beatles' (which sounds closer to the Fab Four than one might think possible) and 'Wildebeeste'. Sleevenotes by Record Collector/ Classic Rock scribe Michael Heatley.

Stackridge - Purple Spaceships Over Yatton - Best Of. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD228)

Fifteen track best of from this quirky English Prog band. The eccentric whimsy, clever wordplay and harmony laden intelligent pop is still appealing after all of these years. Their unique blend of rock, folk, country and general rustic strangeness was recorded in an era that encouraged freedom and creativity, it is sorely missed in the modern scene. Micheal Heatley's informative sleeve notes explain all of this melodic madness. Includes: "Dora The Female Explorer", "The Galloping Gaucho", "Fundamentally Yours" and "Syracuse The Elephant."

Stackridge - Stackridge. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD230)

The eccentric whimsy, clever wordplay and harmony laden intelligent pop that this eccentric British band managed to create in the late '60's / early '70's mixes various elements from rock, folk, country and general rustic strangeness to create something quite lovely. Produced in 1971 by former four pennies Fritz Fryer in London. Original nine track album expanded with two bonus songs: "Slark (single version)" and "Let There Be Lids." Informative sleeve notes by Michael Heatley and rare unseen band photos. Random info: they were the opening at the Sheperton Mallet Rhythm and Blues Festival, later to be known as Glastonbury 1970.

Stackridge - Man In The Bowler Hat. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD232)

The third long player by the Ridge, recorded at Air Stdio in the summer of '73 and released the next February. Produced by George Martin, they created one of their finest albums, happily producing music that was miles away from the hard rock and glam stylings of the times. Their very English, eccentric prog that often wanders into different genres and poetic lyrics are focused by the ex Beatles producer. The sounds is livelier and would never sound quite as uplifting and as fresh again. Ten tracks digitally remastered.

Stackridge - Extravaganza. CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD233)

Released in January 1975, this was the ever gigging Stackridge's fourth album. The past three years had found the group releasing an album and a single a year, playing an average of three hundred shows a year and appearing on John Peel, Whistle Test and BBC in concert. Relationships within the band had become tense, with Andy Davis taking control and new members Rod Bowkett, Paul Karas and Keith Gemmell being brought in to bring to the fore the Zappa-esque jazz rock that had existed in their music for a long time. Eleven tracks including: "Rufus T Firefly", "Grease Paint Smiles" and "Pocket Billiards."

Stackridge - Mr. Mick. Dble CD. (Angel Air - SJPCD234)

A great double disc set that features the terminally cult group's 1976 album Mr Mick and the original unreleased version that was rejected by the label. Based around a poem, the original concept for the release was to include large sections of spoken verses / dialogue in between tracks and a different running order, the reworking of the album by their label did not please Stackridge at all but it still retains a certain charm and quality. This will delight all 'Ridge fans, the final chapter in a career filled with ups and downs, constant line up changes and the lack of commercial success. Remastered from the original master tapes.

Stackridge - Forbidden City. DVD. (Angel Air - NJPDVD630)

A lengthy live gig from the group's 2007 show at Bath, England. This tour marked the return to live performances of Mutter Slater, as long term Ridge fans would expect his presence demanded a strong level of audience participation over these twenty five tracks. Bonus features include a full history of the band, interviews with fans and interviews with band members. Around three hours of new material will delight all fans of the long running group. Includes: "Happy In The Lord", "Syracuse The Elephant", "Bacon2 and "Plimsoll."
