Status Quo - Spare Parts. LP. (Earmark - 42032)

Launched as a psycho-pop easy listening group for charts purposes, Quo struggled to find their own path and personality starting with this second album. Urged by PYE - through whom Spare Parts was released in 1969 - to score more hit singles, the Quo put up this much awaited follow up to their debut giving us tunes as enjoyable as their predecessors and pleasing their label with charts results. From this point on, however, - and audible already on this album - begins a new era for Mr. Rossi's combo: a few months after the release of this the Quo began their metamorphosis towards the progressive blues and boogie rock that made them world famous in the 70s.180 gram pressing with PVC dustsleeve.

Status Quo - Keep On Rockin'. Dble CD. (Music Club Deluxe - MCDLX015)

A compilation of later Quo material, some of which is nowhere near as bad as one would think it is. As time progressed, with albums like 'Don't Stop' 'Under The Influence' and 'Heavy Traffic' (the title track and 'All Stand Up' RULE) everyone's favourite three chord headbangers began to regain some of the credibility that releases from 'In The Army Now' onwards had lost them, and despite the presence of far too many cover versions (everyone from Steeleye Span through Graham Parker to Bobby Fuller and Robert Palmer gets the treatment, in addition to which there are several retreads of their own classic material) this still sounds like rock'n'roll. Which is, of course, what the Quo are all abaht, guv.
