Sweet - Teenage Rampage- The Alternative Anthology. Dble CD. (Essential - ESACD800) Everyone knows of the Sweet's impressive track record of hit singles in the UK from 1970 through to 1978, a veritable cornucopia of stackheeled glittering delights. But there are also those who remembered the B-sides and the album tracks, all penned by the band rather than Chinnichap, and what excellent slices of classic heavy rock they were- influencing Queen and thus a whole subsequent generation of heavy melodic metallers. OK, they may have filched the odd Purple riff here and there- but as both bands were old mates, who's to say there's harm in a little sharing? Anyone who isn't yet certain of Andy Scott and Co's contribution to hard rock should check this out.

Sweet - Stairway To The Stars- Live And Rare!. Dble CD. (Castle - CMDDD521) Thirty years ago, the Sweet were widely dismissed as empty-headed pop idols. Now their powerful mix of glam and hard rock has won them a wide following, who will relish this two-CD anthology of vintage live recordings and demos - featuring such classic songs as 'Blockbuster', 'Teenage Rampage' and 'Ballroom Blitz'.

Sweet - Level Headed. CD. (Lemon - CDLEM59) What can be said about this album other than- an underrated masterpiece of British melodic hard rock? Released in 1978 at the end of their hitmaking career ( and featuring the full version of their last UK Top 10 smash "Love Is Like Oxygen"), the album shows all members taking vocal duties, and a streamlined "Mutt" Lange production that stretched into AOR, prog and even funk, proving again that there was more to this band than just Chinnichap bubblegum. One track also features Stevie "Limara" Lange (remember her name?) on harmony vocals. Remastered, for the first time ever on CD for 2005 issue, with full original artwork and bonus sleevenotes by Classic Rock's own Geoff "Deth" Barton. You really need this.

Sweet - Hard Centres. CD. (Zebra - CDMZEB11) Famous for their glitter pop classics like "Blockbuster", "Teenage Rampage" and "Ballroom Blitz" it is easy to dismiss Sweet as mere teen idols. But there was always another, harder edged side- basically all the classic heavy rock tracks they penned themselves and it is this element that is captured here. Culled from the albums 'Sweet F.A.', 'Give Us A Wink' and 'Off The Record'. The riff to 'Windy City' sounds somewhat similar to that of Deep Purple's 'Woman From Tokyo', but we'll let 'em off, because they're brilliant.

Sweet - Glitz Blitz & Hitz - Very Best Of Sweet. DVD. In the midst of the 1970's emerged the bands now legendary as Glam rock. Sweet,not satisfied with being one of the pack slapped on the paint and went out of their way to become more outrageous.This DVD brings together all of Sweet's greatest hits and includes rare performances of their self penned heavier tracks as well as bonus material from the original 16mm films that Sweet recorded to promote their singles worldwide.With endorsement from the band this has to be the definitive package. Region 0 PAL disc.

Sweet - Blockbuster! The Best Of. CD. (Music Club - MCDLX048) Thirty six track celebration of one of the biggest acts of the UK Glam era. This is a comprehensive introduction to their career; they were a constant presence on the radio for most of the 70's and made regular TV appearances due to their outrageous iamge. Includes: "Wig-Wam Bang", "Teenage Rampage", "Rebel Rouser" and "Rock n Roll Disgrace."
