Taj Mahal - Sing A Happy Song. Dble CD. (Rhino Hand Made - RHM27749)

Beautiful numbered 2 disc set that compiles 1976's Music Fuh Ya' (Musica Para Tu) and 1977's Brothers Original Sound Track and Evolution (The Most Recent) -- , along with some previously unreleased audio surprises. For these Warners albums, Taj Mahal formed his International Rhythm Band which included Hoshal Wright on guitar, Ray Fitzpatrick and Bill Rich on bass, Earl "Wire" Lindo, (Bob Marley), on keyboards, Rudy Costa on reeds, Kwasi Dzizournu on congas and percussion, Robert Greenidge on steel drums, Larry McDonald on percussion and Kester Smith on drums. And it was with members from this basic group of musicians that Taj Mahal toured during this time. The sound could be described as indigenous folk music crossed with a Caribbean/reggae style.Nice 20 page booklet rounds the package off.

Taj Mahal - Roots Of Taj Mahal. CD. (Pinnacle - KATCD141X)

Yet another comprehensive collection from the Pinnacle 'Roots Of' series, released February 2005. This time we delve into the formative influences of that giant behemoth of late 60s blues, Taj Mahal. Although these days regarded as a blues legend in his own right it's important to remember that Taj had his influences just like his rock contemporaries, and here we have assembled a glittering array of them- Robert Johnson, Sonny Boy Williamson, Leadbelly, Mississippi John Hurt, Son House and Sleepy John Estes, as well as a Blind Willie or two thrown into the mix. Many are now internationally regarded standards also covered by rock artists- 'Milk Cow Blues' 'Sweet Home Chicago' and 'Good Morning Little Schoolgirl' should all be familiar to you, and enough to whet the appetite of all blues historians. Value for money as well- 23 tracks for just six pounds.
