Velvet Underground - White Light, White Heat. LP. (Verve Records - 28103824)

In 1967 the social anarchists of New York, ably abetted by Andy Warhol produced this response to the peace and love vibes of the West Coast. This album is angry, spiky and in its' own way revolutionary, culminating in the 17 minute epic "Sister Ray" which crackles with energy and angst. Stunning!

Velvet Underground - Loaded. LP. (Cotillion - 9034)

The melodic 1970 album from the Velvets is not only their most accesible release but also features their ode to William Burroughs ("Lonesome Cowboy Bill"). "Sweet Jane" and "Rock and Roll" all as joyously anthemic as anything they ever recorded... and Lou walked before the release! Brilliant

Velvet Underground - 3rd Album. LP. (MGM - SE-4617)

With Doug Yule replacing John Cale for this third album, released in 1969, the anger of previous releases had been toned down. The songs were still about the seamier side of life, but a more expressionful and melodious side seemed to be pervading the atmosphere. Not quite as wild as the earlier albums but still a good album...

Velvet Underground - Under Review. DVD.

An excellent DVD featuring a wealth of Velvets-related happenings and malarky, including rare performances never available before, obscure footage, rare interviews and private photographs of the band members and Andy Warhol, brand new interviews with Moe Tucker and the Yule brothers, and critical insight from Village Voice musical editor Robert Christgau, author Clinton Heylin, the ubiquitous Yoda of rock knowledge, Malcolm Dome and many others. Live and studio recordings of many Velvets' classics are included, as well as rarely seen promos, material from Andy Warhol's private collection, interviews with colleagues, producers, musicians and friends, TV clips, location shots and an interactive quiz!! Sadly though, no footage of the Walter Powers/Doug Yule-fronted lineup playing ski lodges and country clubs in 1971/2, and getting repeatedly asked to play 'Louie Louie' or turn the volume down. Bugger!! That would have been chucklesome.
