Witchcraft - Witchcraft. LP. (Rise Above Records - RISELP047)

Vinyl version (contains 1 bonus track) of this 2004 album which conjures up the macabre essence of early '70's heavy occult progressive rock with flashes of vintage Pentagram and Black Sabbath all housed in an authentic period production. Influences are wide apart from Jethro Tull (evident on the folksy prog of "Her Sisters They Were Weak") to the bludgeon riffing style of early 70’s hard rock by The Sabs (as during "I Want You to Know"). Elsewhere, "Schyssta Lögner" evokes memories of Sweden’s original hard rocking progsters November and the inclusion of the cover of "Please Don’t Forget Me" from Bobby Leibling’s 1970 pre-Pentagram outfit Stone Bunny pays homage to his criminally overlooked genius. A great new-retro band.

Witchcraft - Firewood. LP. (Rise Above Records - RISELP62)

Gatefold vinyl edition of this much- anticipated follow up to the Swedes' masterful debut, released in 2005 and taking the direction of its predecessor even further into unexpected and glorious heights. Still sounding like it was recorded in a wood outside Birmingham in 1971, and still very much the work of true music lovers with obscure tastes (Sir Lord Baltimore, Leaf Hound, Black Widow, Necromandus, Comus, Coven, early Pentagram) plus the regular dosage of Sabbath,Tull and Elevators worship, but with, dare I say it?- a more honed commercial eye. . .Don't worry, they haven't sold out- the songs still have titles like 'Chylde Of Fyre' 'I Can't Wake The Dead' and 'Merlin's Daughter', and if anything the lyrics are more evil than before. And they're such nice chaps too!!.

Witchcraft - If Crimson Was Your Colour. 7". (Rise Above Records - RISE787)

The masters of all things vintage return with two brand new ripping tracks as a stop between albums. Both songs display a return to the rawer, less polished production of their debut, self titled album. A-Side, ‘If Crimson Was Her Colour’ shows a definite progression in the song writing department and is a good indication of the Majestic Psychedelic Doom rock we can expect on the bands forthcoming third album, scheduled for release Easter 2007. The overall theme is one of murder B-Side ‘I Know You Killed Someone’ is a balls out blues rocker with a ‘killer’ main riff. The 7" will be released on vinyl only, an indication of where the true spirit of this exceptional band lies.

Witchcraft - Alchemist. CD. (Rise Above Records - RISECD103)

2007 album from Sweden's finest, their third since 2004. A group that has made big waves in the underground scene and in the US, the 70's influences remain but it is their commitment to the task that makes them such a tantalising group. Recorded 100% pro-tools and digital free, they continue to prove that bands don't have to rely on distortion and down-tuned guitars, with screaming vocals to achieve a heavy sound. Tracklisting: "Walk Between The Lines", "If Crimson Was Your Colour", "Leva", "Hey Doctor", "Samaritan Burden", "Remembered" and "The Alchemist."
