Gun Club - Ahmed's Wild Dream. CD.
(Label: Cherry Red, Cat.No: CDMRED 342)

Click for large image The first UK reissue of this ultra rare recording of one of the outstanding alternative bands of the 1980's - the late Jeffrey Lee Pierce's The Gun Club. Originally released in 1993, the album features 14 live tracks spanning all their studio albums and 2 bonus tracks: the previously unreleashed demo versions of 'Humanesque' and 'Pastoral Hide And Seek'. Booklet includes a page from Jeffrey's currently unavailable autobiography "Go Tell Me A Mountain" talking about his time in the UK, a discography of the band's recording career and relfections by Jeffrey's sister Jacqui.

Gun Club - Fire Of Love. DVD.
(Label: Cherry Red DVDs, Cat.No: CRDVD 153)

Click for large image Two complete live performances bone the most outstanding bands of the 1980. Recorded at the Hacienda 1983 (a performance rescued from Ikon Archive) and Madrid 1985 for a very rare TV appearance, the twenty four tracks best represent Gun Club's tribal, psychobilly blues and energetic death rock. Although he certainly had ar eputation for being unreliable, lead singer Jeffrey Lee Pierce is on top form for both gigs. The 1985 gig is amongst the last the group would play before they seemingly broke up for respective solo careers before sudednly reappearing two years later. DVD PAL / main feature 118 minutes. Bonus material: interview with the band.

Sonic Youth - Destroyed Room: B-Sides And Rarities. Dble LP.

Gun Club - Early Warning. Dble CD.
(Label: Sympathy For The Record Indust, Cat.No: SFTR1478CD)

Click for large image A double disc set from the '80's energetic death rockers. Comprising of demos, their first ever recording session, a thirteen song live show from 1982 and Jeffrey Lee Piece's home acoustic recordings. Able to read the blues and twist it round a visceral punky rock approach witht fantastic results, Pierce's earnest vocals brought across that sense of desperation, loneliness and death maybe too well; his decade or so of hard intake would result in a fatal stroke in 1996.

Black Keys - Magic Potion. CD.
(Label: V2, Cat.No: VVR1042542)

Click for large image A wonderfully striped down gritty blues stomp. The Ohio-based loon duo have managed to create in 2006 their most precise collection of melodic blues rock in a great do it yourself style. As always, the voice is a pained cry at the heavens and his guitar playing is beautifully expressive. There is no room for irony here, this is concise modern electric blues at its best. Includes: "You're The One", "Goodbye Babylon" and "Give Your Heart Away."Housed in a beautiful digi pack and detailed booklet.

Mission Of Burma - The Obliterati. LP.
(Label: Matador, Cat.No: OLE6831)

Click for large image Limited vinyl pressing of the 3rd full length studio album proper, 'The Obliterati'. Recorded in 2006 at Boston's Q Division Studios with firmly ensconsed 4th wheel Bob Weston, 'The Obliterati' might be the most aggressive, raw and challenging recording in the band's storied career. With equally strong contributions from Roger Miller, Clint Conley and Peter Prescott, 'The Obliterati', while having the odd melodic moment or 2 dozen, is as relentless and engulfing an album as we've heard since...well, since Burma's 'Vs.' some 24 years ago. Whether or not this album is as topical, absurdist or just plain hit-packed as that one, you'll have to figure out for yourself. For the moment, our senses are just shattered. Black humor, topical humor, general dense aggro with hooks split into the sound like kindling.

Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped. LP.
(Label: Goofin, Cat.No: GOOFIN11)

Click for large image Exclusive limited vinyl edition of the latest album by the long running, genre defying band. Recorded in the dying days of 2005 and the new dawn of 2006 at New York's Sear Sound, Rather Ripped exhibits Sonic Youth in positive vibration mode. These twelve songs of harmonic/melodic surprise feature vocals by Thurston Moore, Kim Gordan and Lee Ranaldo. Straight up Sonic Youth field on fire. Artwork exclusive to LP.

Mission Of Burma - The Obliterati. CD + DVD.
(Label: Matador, Cat.No: OLE683-1)

Click for large image We're slightly in awe of Burma's new, 3rd full length studio album proper, 'The Obliterati'. Black humor, topical humor, general dense aggro with hooks split into the sound like kindling. Bonus DVD contains 4 unreleased live performances.

Invaders - Various. CD.
(Label: Kemado, Cat.No: KEM040)

Ministry - Rio Grande Blood. CD.
(Label: 13th Planet, Cat.No: THP002CD)

Click for large image The brand new album from industrial metal mastermind Al Jourgensen's whip-wielding Ministry. Following on from where last albums 'Houses Of The Mole' 'Animositisomina' and 'Dark Side Of The Spoon' (how many of these joke titles can one band produce? Guffaw!!) left off, "Rio Grande Blood" is comprised of 10 brand new (2006-released) in-your-face tracks that 'drive a bulldozer through the White House' or so it sez here. The latest lineup features Killing Joke's Paul Raven, Prong mainman Tommy Victor, and, of course, special guest artist and all-round professional thorn in the arse of conformity, Mr Jello Biafra. There's only one word for it- Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!
