Mott The Hoople - Fairfield Halls, Live 1970. CD. (Label: Angel Air, Cat.No: SJPCD250)
The gig at Fairfield Halls, Croydon, England13th September 1970 was the fist ever attempt to capture Mott’s feral stage act on tape. Despite the positive outcome, these tapes ended up in Overend Watts' personal archive for over three decades and quickly moved into Hoople mythology. Recorded on The Who’s then state of the art portable eight track machine, the band blew the headline act Free off the stage and show the band engaging with the crowd, cajoling them and challenging them until they gave some sort of reaction. The seven track performance has been boosted with five songs from a gig on 16th February 1971 at The Konserthuset, Stockholm, Sweden. A definite for all Hoople fans.
