Perfect for anyone wanting that little bit more from their greatest hits collection, this is the ultimate in Madness rarities. Includes a fifty two page booklet.

Times - This Is London. CD.
(Label: Cherry Pop, Cat.No: ARTPOP 19)

Click for large image Originally recorded in 1983, This is another album by ex-Television Personalities member Edward Ball. Unavailable for a number of years, this twelve track album has been expanded with seven live performances / alternate takes / 7" singles making their debut on CD. A fine Mod revival album with elements of the new wave scene he was previously part of. Surprising how much this album, although having been released over twenty years ago sounds just like Maximo Park, Interpol, Arctic Monkeys et al (or is that the other way round?)

Hoods - Gangsters & Morticians. CD.
(Label: Midnight Records, Cat.No: MIRCD149)

Click for large image After the last gap efforts of the Tell Tale Hearts (what is it with all these bands naming thermselves after horror stories already?) Ugly Things Magazine's creator Mike Stax joined up with ex members of the Trebels in 1991 to form the Hoods. The band's 14 track demo was reecorded for their LP "Gangsters and Morticians" . It's well known that Stax is crazy about the Pretty Things and Q65, but he never disappointed fans of thise bands, even if he didn't succeed in reaching the sublime levels of his idols. This release is no different- intense and purposeful. Here, unlike the works of the Crawdaddys and Tell Tale Hearts, we find greater professionalism from all the musicians. Everybody is faultless: from vocalist Jay Wiseman (co- author of a lot of the songs) to Dutch organist RON Swart. Stax was asked in the interview the difference between the Hoods and his past bands. His response was "More energy, more humour and more beer". Priceless.

Nothin' But Trash - Garage Punk 60s Sound. DVD.
(Label: Cherry Red DVDs, Cat.No: CRDVD115)

Click for large image Believe it or not the Swingin' Sixties didn't just spawn mega-pop groups like the Beatles, Stones and Monkees. The decade of love also gave birth to something far darker and dirtier, and arguably much more fun. Yes, the sixties were also responsible for producing the seeds of what would eventually become Punk Rock. The legacy of such icons as The Sonics, The 13th Floor Elevators and The Monks lives on today, and over the past two decades has produced cult sensations such as Thee Milkshakes, The Prisoners and Kaisers. A filthy hybrid of Bad Taste, Rhythm n Blues, rockabilly, surf sounds and all that is unholy, Trash Punk is one of the most enduring forces in the rock n roll underground. This DVD compilation covers nearly twenty years of (the second wave of) Garage Punk and Sixties Style rock, AKA Trash and showcases some of the legendary characters that have emerged on the scene. Never anything less than inventive, 'Nothin But Trash' shows exactly why this debauched tradition survives to this very day - It's bloody good fun. From cult heroes The Gun Club and Link Wray to more recent contenders to the throne Saturn V and Empress of Fur, it's no frills and big thrills all they way as we visit the seediest venues in the UK and spend time at 2003's Wild Weekend in Benidorm, Spain. A mixture of live and promo footage showcases one of most thriving genres of underground music history and present.

Rapiers - 1961. CD.

Masters of the late 70s skinny tie sound, the Barras are back and kicking some serious bottom.

Loft - Magpie Eyes 1982-85. CD.
(Label: Rev Ola, Cat.No: CRREV122)

Click for large image All the original singles released by this very much-missed and fondly-remembered Creation Records act, one of the first to sign to the label and an important stone in the foundation of so-called 'indie' music. Despite such tags, they actually specialised in a form of melodic pop-rock which was closer to that of Big Star or even Cheap Trick than a million fey jangling Northern schmindie poppers, and their legend has grown accordingly. This CD also features plenty of memorabilia, and has been remastered by Nick Robbins. When independent really was independent. . .

Dentists - Some People Are On The Pitch They Think It's All Over Now. CD.
(Label: Rev Ola, Cat.No: CRREV120)

Click for large image First ever appearance on CD of this 'lost' album by the 'black sheep' of the Medway set, who found themselves pushed into a corner and somewhat disenfranchised for their rejection of what they saw as the 'conservative' values of Billy Childish and his cohorts. Not for this lot the purist retro-garage recycling of any band with 'Thee' in the name (not that there's ANYTHING wrong with that kinda stuff): instead the music of choice was a textured blend of the jangling guitar pop of the Smiths, Soft Boys and REM mixed with full-on 60s Mod rock sensibilities (Pete Townshend was their idol), which left them very much a fish out of water at the time of this, their one and only album. Long sought after as a 'lost classic', now remastered with singles (including the excellent 'Strawberries Are Growing In My Garden' which matches Nick Nicely's 'Hiily Fields' for 80s psych perfection) and appearing for the first time ever on CD, it appears that as usual, the public had totally the wrong idea, as the album has stood the test of time to become recognised as a milestone. The packaging also features liner notes, photos and track-by-track comments from the band, all of whom are still alive somewhere. Produced by Allan Crockford of the Prisoners.
