Oliver - Good Morning Starshine- The Best Of. CD. The greatest hits of this legend of easy listening and sunshine pop all assembled for the first time on CD. Oliver (for 'twas he) was of course known for his rendition of the title track (which came from the hit show 'Hair') but also recorded many folk rock and country rock ballads, songs by Rod McKuen ('Jean' being a particular favourite) and his own compositions such as 'Young Birds Fly' and 'Buddy' show the kind of music he wanted to create: complex, orchestrated, sometimes dramatic adult folk-pop similar to that of Bob Lind. There are also tracks here that result from his collaborations with Lesley Gore, which should have reached a larger audience had the world taken him more seriously. Re-issue of Enrico Simonetti & Goblin's impossibly rare score for the cult Italian early seventies TV drama "Gamma". His latin tinged tracks blend remarkably well with the darker themes of prog rockers Goblin; the restored sound quality makign this one of the last Goblin collectables. Twelve tracks in all. |
Erik Satie - Socrate / Mass For The Poor / Piano Pieces. CD. Out of print for five decades, these recordings of Erik Satie's beautiful symphonic dramas are restored andreleased digitally for the first time. The twenty two tracks here represent some of the best classical avant garde recordings of the twentieth century. Fans of John Cage, Gary Numan, Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett and Frank Zappa should recognise some of his works as they have covered the great mans work, someone who has deservedly achieved an international fan base. | Harold McNair - The Fence. CD. Jamaican born Harold McNair was one of the unsung heroes of the second generation of British modernists. His Parkeresque alto, Rollins-influenced tenor and truly unique flute playing astounded the London jazz scene in the early 1960s.His flute was heavily featured on the soundtrack for Ken Loach's film ‘Kes’, as was his tenor saxophone on the original 1962 soundtrack theme from ‘Dr. No’. Also, In addition to playing flute on most of Donovan’s 1960s albums, he was a founder member of ‘Ginger Baker’s Airforce’. In fact, the roll-call of his associates represents a golden age of musical interaction. Davey Graham, Blossom Dearie, Jon Hendricks, John Martyn, Magna Carta, Don Partridge, John Cameron and Alexis Korner all benefited from McNair’s versatility until 1971 when his career was cut short by lung cancer at the age of just 39.McNair’s 1970 LP, ‘The Fence’, has always been a much sought after rarity amongst collectors. Now digitally re-mastered, this reissue features liner notes and period photographs by Val Wilmer. |

A friend and contemporary of Joy Division in the late Seventies, Corbijn is responsible for some of their most iconic photographs. In 1988 he directed a video for the band's 'Atmosphere' as a requiem to Ian. Jonathan Whitehead might be unknown by many, but he has created scores to many of the best British TV comedy series of the past ten years. His recent work includes the themes to Brass Eye, The Day Today, Black Books, Nathan Barley, Smack The Pony and I'm Alan Partidge. His work on the ground breaking medical comedy series Green Wing won the Best Musical Score gong at the Royal Television Society awards in 2005 and was nominated for a BAFTA in the same year. | David Bowie - The Buddha Of Suburbia.
