Label Listing : A Silent Place (5 products)

Jennifer Gentle - New Astronomy. CD. (A Silent Place - ASP13CD)

An album conceived and largely recorded in Marco Fasola's bedroom on a four track, this is probably the most eccentric and out there Jennifer Gentle release. It is their attempts to make sense of the trippy dreams and nightmares of Fasola. This melting pot of whacked experimentation, eccentricity and low fi acoustic wonder is a joy. The homage to UK psychedelia bands from the '60's is clear in these brain damaged acoustic sketches. Cracking.

Jennifer Gentle - Sacramento Session. LP. (A Silent Place - ASP03LP)

On the group's first North American tour and after an impromptu gig at a venue with zero audio facilities (bar a single microphone), the gourp were forced to change their set list for the night and instinctively jam their way to please the crowd. Gentle were so inspired by the success of the show that they decided to record it properly the very next day. These two tracks (the title track and "5 of 3") are the sum of their acid frazzled, lo-fidelity psychedelic experiments and a subsequent mix session back at home. Limited edition Red vinyl housed in a gatefold sleeve.

My Cat Is An Alien / Christain Marclay / Okklung Lee - From The Earth To The Spheres Vol. VI. CD. (A Silent Place - ASP09CD)

Fourth volume in the split series set up by Maurizio and Roberto Opalio aka My Cat Is An Alien on their own Opax Records imprint, sees the Italian cosmic duo splitting the media with well-known audio visual artist, performer and turntable-art innovator Christian Marclay together with cello improviser Okkyung Lee, ubiquitous figure of downtown NY avant-garde scene. "Rubbings" is Marclay's track, while the other track "Beyond the limits of the stars / Beyond the limits of the grooves" is a one of their heaviest conceptions to date, the piece is built on electric guitars' strings moaning onto walls of space drones and electronics like ectoplasmic presences emerging from the brillliance of the Void. The initial minimal and claustrophobic guitar chords slowly building into an ocean of howling moduled feedbacks combined with fragmented and distorted real-time inserts of post-romantic classical music from old 78rpm shellac records. Barmy yet brilliant. Released in an elegant textured digi-sleeve.

Nick Castro & The Young Elders - A Day Without Disaster. 10". (A Silent Place - ASP25)

2007 chapter in the musical adventures of Nick Castro. This EP is a glimpse into the ever-evolving minds of NC & The Young Elders, which are dwelling somewhere between the romantic male/female duets of Richard & Linda Thompson and the exotic worldly arrangements of the Incredible String Band. With their focused sensitive touch, unusual acoustic textures, gentle wordplay and ensemble interaction The Young Elders are traversing the folk world and leaving large shoes to fill. Their latest efforts meet paths with psychedelic sirens, Turkish rain calls, celtic ghost stories and realizations of the natural world. They've created a sound where the harmonium and saz coexist with blaring electric guitars and close vocal harmonies. The Young Elders are currently comprised of members Wendy Watson, Ryan Kirkpatrick, Christof Certik (member of Winter Flowers) and guest Jeb Lipson. Though often lumped in with the "freak-folk" genre Nick Castro has been transcending such labels since most of these new folkies were still playing indie
