Arcadium - Breathe Awhile. CD.

Very rare and superb 1969 album from the UK that mixes progressive psychedelia and with folk and classical overtones sounding like a more progressive early Floyd. Melodic, layered structured and trippy, Arcadiums only album is one of the best underground late '60s UK psych/progressive rarities. Includes two rare bonus tracks "Sing My Song" and "Riding Alone". Nice thick card gatefold sleeve.

Brian Auger & The Trinity - Definitely What!. LP. (Abraxas - 42050)

1968’s Definitely What! was credited to BA and The Trinity, although it is in fact Auger’s first solo album and he certainly deserved all the credit because it perfectly demonstrates this composer’s beautifully fluid creative inventiveness. Eclectic and gifted, Auger is here freed from the somehow stiffer grid that sometimes characterized his past compositions seemed to have, when he was caged in the more rigid scheme of a trio. Definitely What! seems to open the road to free jazz and odd experimentation on classics (i.e. "A Day In The Life") while remaining tightly linked to the pop-R&B vibe of Swinging London. Track listing Side A: 1. A Day In The Life 2. George Bruno Money 3. Far Horizon 4. John Brown’s Body Side B: 1. Red Beands And Rice 2. Bumpin’ On Sunset 3. If You Live 4. Definitely What

Bruce Palmer - Cycle Is Complete. LP. (Abraxas - AK 269)

Bruce Palmer is perhaps better known as the bassist for Buffalo Springfield, one of the greatest rock groups of the ‘60s. Palmer as reserved as he was genius released this solo album in 1970 which remains one of the strangest rock albums ever created. An eclectic masterpiece that magnificently fuses the most disparate genres- folk, jazz, rock psych, trance to create a fascinating sound that was at least three decades ahead of its time. Every track is its own chapter, "Alpha-Omega-Apocalypse" frenetically explores jazz territories and is enhanced by the blues vocals of Rick Matthews (AKA Rick James, future psychedelic soul star). In "Oxo" eastern influences predominate, while "Calm Before The Storm" is a languid and intriguing journey characterized once again by interesting ideas and an impeccable performance. The Cycle Is Complete definitely falls into the 'essential' album category.180 gram gatefold vinyl pressing.

Eire Apparent - Sunrise + Bonus Track. LP. (Abraxas - AK302LP)

This Irish psych combo is well known for its collaboration with Jimi Hendrix during their 1967 USA Tour. Hendrix liked the band to the extent that he decided to produce and play on their only full length Sunrise. The result was this fresh psychedelic record with very interesting sound effects. Too bad the group split after this album, although members of Eire Apparent would later end up in the Pretty Things, Spooky Tooth and other relevant groups of British psychedelia.

Emerson Lake & Palmer - Emerson Lake & Palmer. LP. (Abraxas - 42054)

Reissue in a single sleeve of the debut album by these legends of progressive rock featuring members of The Nice, Atomic Rooster and King Crimson. Not quite as over the top as their later material this album is a blend of melody and experimentation with some fine vocal harmonies and instrumental interplay. Indeed if you like T2, Caravan, Fantasy and other less well known progressive outfits you should like this.Housed in a PVC sleeve.

Flaming Lips - Hear It Is. LP. (Abraxas - PLAIN111)

White vinyl reissue of second Lips album (first full length) from 1986, when hit singles, MTV awards and seated arenas seemed a whole cosmic universe away. Back in these days, Wayne Coyne and his Oklahoma freak society colleagues had huge hair, leanings towards goth blues punk a la Gun Club, and shared an audience with the likes of the Meat Puppets, although on songs like 'Man From Pakistan' 'Jesus Shootin Heroin' and 'Gorilla Flick' their brain-frazzling acid antics were already beginning to take shape. Bears absolutely no relation to the band that exists today!!

Flaming Lips - In A Priest Driven Ambulance. Dble LP. (Abraxas - PLAIN114)

The final album before the majors beckoned (although it would still be another 10 years before they turned into a very poor Beach Boys copy) this was the Lips finding that experimentation and melody together made curiously suitable bedfellows. Thus guitar wigouts like 'Unconsciously Screamin' and 'Mountain Slide' mix with the heartfelt poignancy of 'Mother Superior Rain', several songs about Jesus, and even a cover of Louis Armstrong's 'What A Wonderful World', but the drugs were still working and the band still had the edge. Now expanded to a double album (without the aid of ketamine, we hasten to add) and on beautiful pink vinyl, for that special acid headache.

Flaming Lips - Oh My Gawd!!!. LP. (Abraxas - PLAIN112)

Yellow vinyl reissue of second full length album (third official release) from Oklahoma City freak combo, and by this time the lysergics had really set in- 'The Ceiling Is Bendin' 'Everything's Explodin' 'One Millionth Billionth Of A Millisecond On A Monday Morning' and 'Love Yer Brain' are conclusive proof if nothing else. Influences were far beyond what indie America allowed- a genuine love for Zep, Mountain and several very prog things indeed. Original mind-frying skull artwork reproduced.

Flaming Lips - Telepathic Surgery. Dble LP. (Abraxas - PLAIN113)

Perhaps still the most far out and frazzle-brained hour of the Lips' lives so far, an album whose ethos is so clearly laid out it should have large letters spelling 'D. R.U.G.S.' across the vinyl. It doesn't, but something mind-altering has happened- the album has expanded!! No, we're not hallucinating- it's now a double, complete with all 23 minutes of 'Hell's Angels Cracker Factory' in its back to front glory. Elsewhere, 'Shaved Gorilla' 'The Spontaneous Combustion Of John' and the still-bemusingly titled 'Hare Krishna Stomp Wagon (Fuck Led Zeppelin)' still worry people, and not without good reason. Outside of Beefheart or Hawkwind, it really didn't get much freakier than this.

This second album, from 1971, is a now highly collectable set of progressive rock, with prominent flute and keyboards. Jaklin - Jaklin. LP. (Abraxas - 42073)

This extremely rare British album is now reissued on Earmark high quality grooves. Electric blues with some psychedelic touches, especially on the track "Song To Katherine". Most of the material is written by lead guitarist Jaklin, aside from three traditionals:"Rosie", "Early In The Morning" which has some jazzy piano improvisation and the heavier "Catfish Blues", and their Cream-like rendition of Alexis Korner’s "The Same For You". An excellent varied blues rock album featuring Tommy Eyre, later of Mark-Almond and Pezband.180 gram with PVC audiophile dustsleeves

Jan & Lorraine - Gypsy People. LP. (Abraxas - AD531)

Gypsy People was recorded in London's IBC Studios with Anthony Browne producing and with backing from a rather impressive collection of UK musicians. With both Hendin and LeFevre contributing material the album offered up an engaging mix of folk, psych and world music moves. Dealers continually drop the term 'acid-folk when trying to unload lame folk stuff on unsuspecting collectors, but if you want to hear a true acid-folk LP, then this may well set the benchmark for such comparisons. This LP edition is beautifully packaged in heavy carton sleeves

Kinks - Kinks Size (First Kinks Album With Japanese Cover Art). LP. (Abraxas - 42062)

180 gram vinyl version of the first Kinks album with Japanese cover art.Given the startling number of original pop masterpieces the Kinks are responsible for composing, it is ironic to think that they began life primarily as an R&B cover band. Their 1964 debut, in fact, featured several R&B classics, like Chuck Berry’s "Beautiful Delilah" and Bo Diddley’s "Cadillac", but it was the original material, like "You Really Got Me" and "So Mystifying" that made it a British pop classic and helped the Davies brothers take their first historic step in cementing their role as one of the most influential and innovative bands in pop history.Housed in a PVC sleeve

Madden And Harris - Fool’s Paradise. LP. (Abraxas - AK315LP)

180 gram vinyl pressing by this Australian duo who were responsible for an exceptional fusion of progressive rock and folk, originally released in a limited edition of 500 copies. Released by Jasmine Records in 1975, it manages to raise from its folkish background to a fuller rock experience, with the addition of mellotron and vintage keyboards. Dave Madden and Peter Harris are here backed up by a great rhythm section composed by Paul Baker (bass) and Doug Gallagher (drums) for an amazing session that reaches its apex in the suite that gives the name to the album. Magna Carta - Songs From Wasties Orchard. LP. (Abraxas - AK 254)

Great fold out LP reissue of this album regarded by many to be their magnum opus. The band's third album from 1971 is a masterpiece of UK soft psychedelic folk. With delicate pastoral harmony vocals superimposed over a mix of acoustic and electric backing. In particular "Bridge At Knaresborough Town" stands out with its climatic eastern raga guitar, whilst Rick Wakeman guests on one track, as does guitarist Davey Johnstone who later played with Elton John. 180 gram vinyl and thick card folding sleeve as per the original re-creating the fruit box.

Nuggetsmania - A Guide To CD Compilations By Massimo Lucchini. Book. (Abraxas - ISBN 88 88006 0)

What a fine idea ! We've had plenty of books concentrating on various countries psychedelic releases - this is the first one to feature CD compilations of US '60's Psych and Punk. Not only do you get pictures and full track listings of over 200 CD Comps but the index helps you to immediately find any band and identify which compilation they were featured on. It's not totally complete, but it's certainly a worthy effort. The perfect book to resolve that stoned "what the f**k is that !!!" moment.

Odin - Odin. LP. (Abraxas - AK 339)

For all you collectors and record buffs out there, this release needs no introduction. Odin’s self titled LP is a crown jewel of epic heavy prog, gushing with first-rate guitar solos and cascades of Hammond organ. Originally from the UK, but based in Germany, the band signed with Vertigo in ’72 to produce this masterpiece. The tunes found here are often laced with hard rock and blues and feature occasional Zappa-esque meanderings (Tribute To Frank), while sporadically spilling over into acoustic folkiness."Be The Man You Are" brings to mind Traffic in their heyday, but perhaps their Quatermass cover, "Gemini" speaks more about their influences. But one of the best moments is undoubtedly the Yes-influenced "Life Is Only", featuring some excellent Hammond playing. If you love the mighty Hammond and ‘70s prog jams, do not miss this amazing album! 180 gram vinyl pressing.

Pentangle - Basket Of Light. LP. (Abraxas - 42053)

If there’s one band that sums up guitar virtuosos with vocal inspiration and a white blues rhythm section straight from the speakeasy London sound of Alexis Korner’s Blues Inc., then it is certainly Pentangle. The ineffable Bert Jansch and John Renbourn on guitars, the subtle singing of Jacqui McShee and the jazz blues oriented drum and bass of Terry Cox and Danny Thompson made Pentangle one of the most enjoyable folk rock groups (but can this limited definition really describe the 360° musical talent of this combo?) and 1969’s Basket of Light (their third album) a piece of pop music unlikely to be topped. Originally released on Transatlantic, the album features"Light Flight" of the BBC’s Take Three Girls fame, the splendid "Sally Go Round The Roses" and "House Carpenter", to cite just a few.180 gram virgin vinyl with PVC dustsleeve

180 gram vinyl version of Room’s 1970 "Preflight" album which is a near-masterpiece of blues-influenced prog-rock with forays into jazz territories. Well-structured and punctuated by interesting time changes and a skillful use of wind and string instruments, they are definitely at least on par with label mates Leaf Hound and Mellow Candle. Saint Just - La Casa Del Lago. LP. (Abraxas - AK1046)

180 gram pressing from these stellar Italian prog rockers based their unique sound on the unmistakable vocals of Jenny (Jane) Sorrenti and a medley of acoustic instruments, creating a sound that made interesting use of folk, psychedelic and classical influences, and their 1973 and 1974 albums are among the most significant in the Italian panorama. La Casa del Lago (The House on the Lake) is more rock-influenced than their previous album, and it is perhaps also a more musically complete effort. Here saxophonist Robert Fix has been replaced by two electric guitars and a steady drummer, resulting in a much less acoustic and more rhythmic sounding album. Sorrenti has always identified herself in the folk rock of the late sixties and her passion for bands like Pentangle and Sandy Denny’s Fairport Convention is evident. These influences along with those from the Mediterranean give life to the unique and innovative sound that is Saint Just.

Saint Just - Saint Just. CD. (Abraxas - AK 1045)

CD version of the album by Jenny Sorrenti, together with musicians of the caliber of Robert Fix and Toni Verde, with the support of Tony Esposito, formed the Italian progressive folk group Saint Just, who debuted in 1973 with this self-titled album. The resulting work was a kind of folk that dug deep into Italian (and non Italian) culture of past centuries, particularly the middle ages, and was spiritually connected to artists like Pentangle, Third Ear Band and Steeleye Span. Rarified atmospheres meld with the inspired horn playing of Robert Fix and the majestically sweet vocals of Jenny Sorrenti (then known as Jane). Saint Just is, with good reason, considered one of the most interesting Italian musical events of the period.
