Audience is one of the most interesting groups in the British panorama of the late 60's early 70's. Their sound was a manifestation of their desire to experiment with and masterfully blend different musical styles, such as rock, folk, jazz, and blues. If we must make comparisons, Tull immediately leap to mind, for the band’s use of flute. Audience gained moderate notoriety thanks to their constant gigging, and they soon released this 1969 self-titled debut, which featured an excellent use of (predominantly acoustic) guitar (Howard Werth) and equally high-quality flute, sax and clarinet playing (Keith Gemmell), not to mention the distinctive voice of Werth, and their simple, but effective arrangements (a period when prog rock reigned supreme). 180 gram vinyl version of undoubtedly one of the most original, if lesser known, rock bands of the seventies, this British-American combo deserve attention for their fresh mix of gypsy music and progressive rock that even so many years after the fact remains extremely fresh and actual. At the time, Carmen were actually very well-known, sharing the stage with the likes of David Bowie, and touring with Jethro Tull. Produced by no less than Tony Visconti, and their first album was practically declared a miracle by the music press. One of the things that made their performances so unique was the fact that, during their long instrumental breaks, members of the band would dance flamenco on stage and add natural percussive sounds to the instrumental mix. It must also be noted that this special fusion was definitely not a gimmick imposed upon them by their label in search of the ‘next big thing’, but actually the fruit of a concentrated creative effort on the part of David Allen. Coven's sound is inspired by the occult, as is immediately evident from their song titles and lyrics which speak of demons, witches and satanic rituals. Exact gatefold repro including satanic insert of the album, released in 1970, which attracted many fans of the genre, in part because a track titled "Black Sabbath" and the presence of a bassist by the name of Oz Osborne (ex Magic Lanterns) gave the band an air of mystery.However, this American band is of no relation to their famous English counterparts, althugh they do bear an uncanny sonic resemblance to Pesky Gee-era Black Widow!! Coven nonetheless, bring us a high quality album, both from a musical and visual standpoint (thanks to the dramatic cover). Notable tracks include "Satanic Mass" (a full out black mass with all the trimmings). The vocal harmonies seem to have been a direct influence on Uriah Heep, whilst the band themselves resemble the cast of every dodgy early 70s horror movie/thriller you have seen: all billowy witch dresses and Wyngarde moustaches (sometimes even worn by the same person). File alongside Atomic Rooster, Macabre/Pentagram, Salem, White Widow, Leaf Hound, Zior, Ghost, Necromandus, Laudunum, Iron Maiden (60s), the Rattles and the aforementioned Black Widow in the recently unearthed genre of 'black prog' or 'occult psych', which will be as well known as acid folk by next year!! | ) |

Originally released in 1969 in a very elaborate package (part is re-created in this re-issue) and known for their stage antics where the members of Coven used to weave actual witchcraft symbols and rituals into their act while they all wore black cloaks. The album, which features original songs relating to witchcraft is a chilling experience. The album was recorded by an American band and was produced by Jim Donlinger (HP Lovecraft) and Bill Traut, both students of witchcraft. Led by charismatic vocalist Bill Constable (aka Adam Blessing), was an extraordinary band, able to go head-to-head with their more illustrious counterparts. The sound is equal parts psychedelic rock, hard rock, garage and blues, mixed at will for maximum aural impact. Adam Blessing’s vocals are sure-fire and aggressive, as evident in tracks like"Cookbook" while a certain likening to Jim Morrison can be drawn in "Morning Dew". Top Of The Pops was the series which you're most likely to remember, but many other companies ran similar series throughout the '60s and '70s, selling surprisingly large numbers of copies in Woolworths, high street supermarkets and other outlets. Finally here's a CD edition of the original Glastonbury Fayre, a forerunner of the more commercial Festival we know today. The original event was a psychedelic freak-out celebration of the UK counterculture that took place in the depths of the Somerset countryside in 1972. Mike Bloomfield - Count Talent & The Originals. CD.

Mike Bloomfield did more to influence the Chicago blues scene than any other single white musician. After gaining experience in the band of Paul Butterfield (a harmonica player raised alongside the old South Side bluesmen), Bloomfield developed a totally innovative technique involving long intricate guitar solos full of soul and intuition, which paid obvious tribute to the Indian raga. Along with Bob Dylan, Bloomfield taught the world to play this kind of folk and blues rock. He worked alongside Al Kooper, Electric Flag and many others, and his career was star-studded right up until his tragic death in 1981. Count Talent And The Originals (1978) finds Bloomfield in top form alongside Mark Naftalin and Nick Gravenites, and with a killer band. Bloomfield gives us a series of memorable tracks including "Bad Man," a tale of life in the streets, and the heart-wrenching "You Was Wrong" which really puts his skills to the test (which he passes with flying colors). In "Peach Tree" the slide guitar shines and the Bloomfield’s vocal style finds fresh inspiration in the blues singers of the 1930s, all in all making this an album that deserves to be rediscovered. | ) |

Peter Green’s genius has its main roots in musical influences from a childhood spent in London’s working class East End. Such varied influences as BB King, Muddy Waters and traditional Jewish music have all contributed to the making of the legend.
