Sigh - Gallows Gallery. CD. (Candlelight - CANDLE126CD) Possibly the most out-there and experimental band in extreme metal since at least Atheist, Japan's Sigh have built a sound that is as much influenced by Klaus Schulze or John Coltrane as Darkthrone, Sarcofago or Bathory, or maybe even Yes and Hawkwind- a fabulous melange of grinding riffs and shrieking vocals topped with Fender Rhodes piano, analogue and digital synths, avant space jazz and occasional lapses into Philly disco!! Utterly bonkers, yet never for the sake of it, and never less than fascinating, Sigh are at the very cutting egde of progressive music today. 'Psychederic Plog Brack Metal', anyone?
