Any Trouble - Girls Are Always Right: The Stiff Years. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED211)
Formed in 1976, this band were originally signed to Stiff Records, and fronted by the talented singer songwriter Clive Gregson, a talent regarded at the time as comparable to Elvis Costello and Richard Thompson- the latter of whom would eventually collaborate with the band once their punk days were over and they had fallen in with the folkie/singer songwriter circuit, largely due to the presence of collaborator Christine Collister. This CD, largely based around their earlier material, features 11 tracks never previously available on disc including 'Wheels In Motion' 'Snapshot' and 'Follow That Car' which have never been previously released at all. | ![]() |

Artery - Into The Garden: An Artery Collection. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED296)
A collection of recordings from a band beloved by all who remember them- although maybe there are not as many of those as there should be. Thought of at the time as Sheffield's answer to Joy Division, and regularly championed by the likes of Jarvis Cocker as the city's finest export, appraisal of their career has been denied until now largely due to the lack of CD recordings available. This compilation, which gathers highlights from their singles and both of their album releases, will hopefully alter that. The guitarist was later Mission man Simon Hinkler, but it's frontman Mark Gouldthorpe that really stands out, not least of all for his excellent lyrics. Includes exclusive remixes and never before offically released tracks, as well as full sleeve notes and track annotation. | ![]() |

The booklet includes a full discography and photos/memorabilia. |

Avon Calling - The Very Best Of Heartbeat Madness (Various). Dble CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED292)
Another bumper spread of Bristolian post-punk "when indie was indie" shennanigans, and a landmark release in the genre. Originally released in 1980, this was Bristol's key label Heartbeat Records' equivalent to Cherry Red's own "Pillows And Prayers"- a compilation that went on to become revered in its own right as a classic album. Much loved by Peelie, (so it must be good), it finally makes its CD debut on Disc 1 of this storming double CD set , and the songs- by Glaxo Babies, the Europeans, Moskow, The Stingrays, Vice Squad and Double Vision (their 'My Dead Mother' is a classic)- are still as good as they ever were, only now they come augmented by six bonus tracks!! CD2 features the same bands plus a few newbies, and consists of the singles that were never compiled on any album at the time. The package is completed by a wonderful booklet that details the story of the label and the bands involved. | ![]() |

Babes In Toyland - BBC Sessions. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED199)
Here they are folks- all 16 tracks of twisted dollerama recorded for those noted Peel sessions betwixt 1990 and 1992 by Kat Bjelland and her cohorts. Screeching, venomous and nasty, the Babes ate most female rock bands of the 90s for breakfast the way the Bishop Of Bath And Wells devoured babies. Among the tracks listed are faves such as 'Catatonic' 'Handsome And Gretel' 'Spit To See The Shine' 'Ripe' 'Right Now' and 'Magic Flute'. The booklet includes sleeve notes, a complete discography and plenty of sleeve artwork. Fnaaarrl!! | ![]() |

Babes In Toyland - Minneapolism (Live - The Last Tour). CD.

Band Of Holy Joy - Leaves That Fall In Spring…. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED 341)
One of the quintessential 'Rough Trade' bands of the 80s and beyond, The Band Of Holy Joy are a truly unique proposition. Combining the dark but unapologetically humane poetry of singer Johny Brown with the instrument action of Chris Brierley (violin) and Alfie Thomas (accordion, keyboards), they were critically adored and on the covers of several music papers and magazines in their 80's heyday. Drawing on a back catalogue of eight albums and a similar number of singles (most of it now out of print), this best of was put together by the band themselves. | ![]() |

Band Of Joy - 24K. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED284)
Best known as the mid 60s outfit that gave Robert Plant and John Bonham their first paying gigs, the Band Of Joy did actually reform (minus Plant) in the late 70s, originally for 'charidee' purposes' before realising how much they enjoyed playing together again. This was the second of the albums the band- fronted by vocalist Paul Lockey- released, although sadly they had once again disbanded by the time Thunderrbolt Records put it out in late 1979 (due to a certain Mr Plant and Mr Grant holding up the originally scheduled Polydor release) If you have heard the previous album, expect more of the same: quality late 70s British hard rock that didn't bow to the pressures of the punk era. | ![]() |
|
Band Of Joy - Band Of Joy. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED281)
Hard to find, never released on CD before album from the Brummie band that gave Robert Plant and John Bonham their first leg up in the world of rock'n'roll. Sadly, neither of those chaps appear on this (the Zep were too busy headlining Knebworth at the time, which was why the proposed charity gigs didn't happen either), which was recorded and released after the band had another crack at it in 1979, but original members Paul Lockley and Kevin Gammond are still there doing their thang, and the songs, particularly '3 AM In The City' are pretty damned good. There's also at least one track never released before. | ![]() |

Banned - Little Girl. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED254)
First time ever CD (originally on Harvest) release for this excellent slice of new wave/powerpop."Little Girl" represents the first ever compilation of the new wave power pop group The Banned, who scored a hit in 1978 with the hit single of the same name. The single was a cover of a US garage punk record by Syndicate of Sound and was part of the set by The Banned at the time which included other 60’s Rock /R&B songs alongside originals, sounding somewhere between The Flamin’ Groovies and The Records. | ![]() |

Biddu - Eastern Star In A Western Sky- The Very Best Of The Biddu Or. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED246)
Biddu is best known for producing big hits for Tina Charles ('I love to Love' - No 1), Jimmy James and The Vagabonds ('Now Is The Time' - No 5) and Carl Douglas (Kung Fu Fighting - No 1). This unique double CD, one disc Western songs, one disc Eastern songs (many of which have never appeared on CD before) contains the 3 hits singles, 'Summer of '42' (No15 August 1975), 'Rain Forest' (No 39 April 1976) and 'Journey To The Moon' (No 41 February 1978), making this a must have for both Eastern and Western fans alike. A genius in at least three musical fields- disco, easy listening and raga- whose magic touch is missed these days. Check out his work with glam-lounge ultrafop John Howard on the 'Can You Hear Me OK' album on RPM. | ![]() |

Billy Childish - The Genius Of Billy Childish With Thee Headcoats & Thee Milk. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED262)
Finally an audio CD version of the awesome Childish live DVD. An incredibly prolific and important artist, Childish has consistently fought against the grain in everything he's done and his music is certainly no exception. A true punk who has been following his own vision of creativity and genius for the past 24 years, creating lo-fi rock music with a number of bands, Childish truly deserves the monikor genius and it is with great pleasure we present two live shows from two of his longest lasting projects. Thee Milkshakes set is from the Nottingham all-dayer in 1984 while Thee Headcoates set is from the early 90's recorded Live at The Pickett and both are full of charm, energy and perfect lo-fi garage rock. Dig why Jack White felt the need to scrawl Billy's name on his arm and why Kurt Cobain screamed his praises, it's all here wild man. | ![]() |

Blind Mr. Jones - Stereo Musicale. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED100)
Produced by Chris Hufford (Slowdrive, Chapterhouse), Blind Mr. Jones temper youthful enthusiasm (average age 19) with a fluent pop sensibility. Blending loud guitars with sensitive melodies, the album has gained a great deal of radio and press support worldwide and invited inevitable comparisons with Ride and Radiohead. | ![]() |

Blind Mr. Jones - Tatooine. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDBRED 113)
1994 final album from 'the Jethro Tull of shoegazers' (due to their use of flute) and the follow-up to 'Stereo Musicale'. This is a more rounded album, relying far less on standard 90s indie techniques of lush soundscape productions and instead concentrating on a more progressive form of pop-rock. The band split shortly after the album's release |

Bridget St John - Ask Me No Questions. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED282)
The wholly acoustic debut album (originally released on John Peel's Dandelion label) from this oft-revered 1970s folk singer, whose deep, laid back, androgynous voice (some have said think of a folk equivalent to Nico or even Timi Yuro, but eithout the darkness of the former or the soul of the latter) marked her as decidedly different from her contemporaries such as Sandy Denny, Maddy Prior, Mandy Morton, Vashti Bunyan etc- as did her reliance on original rather than traditional material. The mood is wistful, pastoral, often melancholy, but the overall feeling is one of relaxed warmth and contentment, as songs such as 'Curious Crystals Of Unusual Purity' 'I Like To Be With You In The Sun' and 'Barefeet And Hot Pavements' demonstrate: for those who like their folk a little more wyrd, there's the curious 'Lizard-Long-Tongue Boy'. Features a guest appearance by John Martyn, as does its successor: the package also contains detailed sleeve notes written by Nigel Cross in cooperation with Bridget, who in addition selected the bonus tracks that appear here on CD for the first time, among which is a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Suzanne". Extremely collectable on vinyl. | ![]() |

Bridget St John - Songs For The Gentle Man. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED283)
Second album, again originally released on Dandelion (in 1971) from underrated UK folk singer-songwriter, this time produced by Ron Geesin (yes, 'im wot co-wrote the Floyd's "Atom Heart Mother") and featuring much more elaborate arrnagements and instrumentation such as cello, flute, bassoon, horns, violins and backing vocals. The songs are also more playful and less melancholy than on her debut, although the same feeling of relaxed warmth prevails on 'Seagull Sunday' and 'Lady And The Gentle Man' which bring her most obvious influence- Joni Mitchell- out into the open. Elsewhere there are covers of songs by John Martyn (featuring the man himself on guitar) and Donovan, another artist she has been compared to: there's also an odd, harmonium-and-vocal closing track which sounds more like Nico than Nico, if one catches the drift. The package contains detailed sleeve notes written by Nigel Cross in cooperation with Bridget. Will appeal to fans of Vashti Bunyan, though markedly different. | ![]() |
|
Bridget St John - Thank You For. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED286)
Miss Saint John's third album, originally released on Dandelion in 1972, on which she tempers her contemplative original compositions with covers of Dylan and Buddy Holly, as well as a dip into the folk tradition (an area she had not previously traversed) with 'Lazarus' which ironically became her best known recording. A departure from the more lush sound of its predecessor, this album returns to the sparsity of her debut but in a slightly more upbeat mood. Whilst the reservedly unemotional sound of her husky vocal can be an acquired taste, it has a charm of its own which grows with each repeated listen. As with the others in this series, the booklet contains detailed sleeve notes written by Nigel Cross in cooperation with Bridget; who was also involved with selecting the previously unreleased bonus tracks. No relation to Ian Saint John. | ![]() |

Buzzcocks - Buzzcocks. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDBRED226)
2003-released studio album from the true godfathers of British pop-punk, without whom there would be no Green Day or the thousands of others that followed in their wake. Whether that's a bad thing or a good thing is up to you, but this is a legendary band by anyone's standards and it's refreshing to hear that their fire hasn't deserted them. | ![]() |
|
C Cat Trance - Karadara, The Cream Of C Cat Trance. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED280)
Very forward-thinking (for the time) and left-field avant-funk-dance from the mid 80s, from musicians formerly associated with the equally odd Medium Medium. Years ahead of everyone else, they married the clipped electro-funk beats of ESG, The Pop Group and The Sequence to world sounds and the burgeoning 'festi trance' style (predating Enigma and Transglobal Underground by about five years) although their own influences were more steeped in Can, Captain Beefheart and Hawkwind. The one constant throughout these juxtapositions is Rees Lewis's wailing sax-playing, which comes across superbly on all 17 tracks, taken from their first EP and their four albums originally released on Ink Records. There are also five unreleased tunes from the 'album that never was'. Gladly, this CD 'is'. | ![]() |

Cabaret Voltaire - Live At The Hacienda 1983/86. Dble CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED220)
A brand new live album featuring Cabaret Voltaire, leaders of the Industrial genre and one of British music's most enigmatic alternative bands. The album features "the Cabs" at their magnificent live best in 1983 and 1986, with both shows coming from the world famous Hacienda club in Manchester. Amongst the many songs featured here are the singles "Crackdown", "Just Fascination", "I Want You" and "Shakedown (The Whole Thing)". Sleeve notes come from founding member Richard H. Kirk, and provide a unique insight into the band's psyche at the time of the shows. | ![]() |

(Cherry Red - CRREV222)
Classic girl group- isms mixed with Baroque Pop, Wyrd Folk, Psychpop and club R&B, all with a wonderful good humour… Fans of the esoteric might care to know that Kevin Ayers' song "Eleanor's Cake Which Ate Her" is about the group...that they sang backing vocals on Electric Ladyland and the first Soft Machine album...and that Eleanor herself sang 'I Got You Babe' with Tiny Tim (backed by The Band) in the cult movie "You Are What You Eat". Collected here are the groups two late 60's albums, both making their debut on CD. Remastered sound and a booklet that features phtos from the era and liner notes by Tiny Tim biographer Chris Campion. |

Chapterhouse - Whirlpool. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED304)
Newly expanded version of this classic early 90s shoegazer album, from a band who never quite made the impact of those that preceded them- maybe because their music was uptempo by the standards of the genre. The album has now been boosted to a full 18 tracks by the addition of all the b-sides from their singles and EP, along with 'Die Die Die' which was originally only available on a free record tha came with the album, and has never appeard on CD before. Producers include Robin Guthrie, Stephen Hague and Ralph Jezzard, guest vocals are from the divine Rachel Goswell (Slowdive, Mojave 3) Long deleted- nice to welcome it back. | ![]() |

Charlottes - Liar- The Best Of The Charlottes. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED295)
Formed in Huntingdon, Cambs in 1988, the Charlottes were usually lumped in with the likes of the Darling Buds, Mighty Lemon Drops and Primitives- the jangly, girlbeat end of the post C86 era- but had far more sonically in common with the droning, churning wall of sound approach epitomised by My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive and Loop. Regarded as makers of 'twee classics' (that actuallly passed for a compliment in the indie scene of '89) by Melody Maker, they released several singles, a mini album, an EP and an album of outtakes and leftovers before disbanding in 1991, shortly after which founder Simon Scott went on to join Slowdive. This CD collects all of those recordings together for the first time: ripe for rediscovery, one might say. | ![]() |

Classix Nouveaux - La Verite. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED217)
Classix Nouveaux were one of the leading lights of the New Romantic scene from the early 1980's. Formed from the ashes of the punk band X-Ray Spex, the band were fronted by the bald headed Sal Solo (apparently now a vicar!!) and they went on to enjoy success with 8 charting singles. Their most successful single was "Is It A Dream", it reached number 11 in 1982 and is featured on this their second album. This is the first time that "La Verite" has been released on CD. The CD features the 11 original tracks from the "La Verite" album including the 3 chart singles "Is It A Dream", "Never Again" and "Because You're Young". The CD booklet includes all the original artwork and a complete discography of the band featuring the sleeves of all their releases. | ![]() |

Classix Nouveaux - Night People. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED217)
Classix Nouveaux were one of the leading lights of the new romantic scene from the early 1980’s. Formed from the ashes of the punk band X-Ray Spex, the band were fronted by the bald headed Sal Solo and they went on to enjoy success with 8 chart singles. This album reached the top 50 on release in 1982 and has never been on CD before plus includes rare bonus tracks! This album has been in great demand from fans of the bands, both new and old, and we have great delight in re-issuing it on CD for the first time! Classix Nouveaux’s contemporaries include Visage and Ultravox though the band’s own musical identity was built on harder guitar driven material rather than the synth based sound that was so common at the time. | ![]() |

Classix Nouveaux - Secret. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED303)
Although Classix Nouveaux's more guitar-heavy sound separated them from the mostly synthetic rhythms of Japan andUltravox, the group's appetite for stylish fashion and danceable keyboards had them quickly associated with the newromantic movement. Formed in 1979 with Sal Solo (vocals), Mik Sweeney (bass), BP Hurding (drums), and Jak Airport(guitar), Classix Nouveaux originated in the punk underground, namely from the ashes of the controversial X-Ray Spex. After banshee wailer Poly Styrene departed from X-Ray Spex, the remaining members held auditions for a replacementsinger. The charismatic Solo won the approval of Styrene's former bandmates and they went on to record the albumNIGHT PEOPLE (1981), followed by LA VERITE (1982).SECRET (1983) turned out to be a very appropriate title for most of the world, as this final album was ClassixNouveaux's best kept secret. With top American producer, Alex Sadkin, at the helm Classix veered between the artisticexperimental of Peter Gabriel and the synthy pop of the Thompson Twins. |

Clifford T. Ward - Singer Songwriter. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED274)
Best known for the hit single 'Gaye' (after his daugher), Kidderminster-based singer songwriter Ward released this debut album from 1969, originally released on John Peel's label Dandelion, containing early singles 'Carrie' and 'Coathanger'. Unavailable on CD for many years this issue reminds us what a great artist Cliff was (in the same vein as Al Stewart, Duncan Browne or maybe even Pete Atkin) and how his death from multiple sclerosis in 2001 robbed the world of a unique talent. Not very interesting trivia: Ward, alongside Robert Plant, David Hamilton, Roy Wood and Jasper Carrott, once played a testimonial football match for Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Dave Wagstaff (no relation to the prog drummer). | ![]() |

Creation - Psychedelic Rose - The Great Lost Creation Album. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED256)

Their compositions ‘Makin' Time’, ‘Painter Man’, ‘Biff Bang Pow’, ‘Nightmares’, ‘Can I Join Your Band’, ‘Life Is Just Beginning’, ‘Through My Eyes’, ‘How Does It Feel To Feel’ and others helped define psychedelia and pop art and are cherished by several different generations of music fans. The Creation were undoubtedly one of the most under appreciated bands to emerge from the UK during the 1960’s, but their legend has grown with time and this album, recorded in 1987 and 1988 and never been released before in any form, is a testament to their enduring legacy. Cuddly Toys - The Best Of- Young And Dangerous. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED191)
Comprehensive collection of this Irish 80s new wave outfit fronted by Sean Purcell. Formerly known as The Raped they are best remembered as covering a Bowie/Bolan co-penned song, 'Madman' written just days prior to Bolan's death- but if truth be known they were the the closest thing the ounk era produced, with the possible exception of Generation X, to a real theatrical glam rock act. Apart from 'Madman' the standout songs are 'Astral Joe' 'Universe' and 'Join The Girls' all from the debut album 'Guillotine Theatre'- the second release, 'Trials And Crosses' was a more straight ahead electronic effort quite similar to John Foxx's "Metamatic" and lacked the camp frivolity of its predecessor. | ![]() |

Flatmates - The Best Of The Flatmates. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED269)
Absolutely essential 23 track compilation by one of the truly great female fronted guitar pop combos of the mid-late 80s, who laid down the blueprint for everyone from The Primitives and the Darling Buds to Echobelly, Elastica, and most significantly Belle & Sebastian. Their own influences- all of which are evident on this 2005-released CD- were the Velvets, Modern Lovers, Shangri Las, Ronettes, Ramones (whose "I Don't Care" is covered here)s and even the Shaggs. In other words, perfectly crafted, slightly discordant, mildly rebellious indie guitar music with a rock'n'roll bubblegun lineage that belies the "cutie" and "C86" tags bestowed upon them. Also includes their best known tune "Shimmer", an indie No.1 in 1987. | ![]() |

Fuzzbox - International Rescue - Pink Sunshine. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED179)
We've Got A Fuzzbox And We're Gonna Use It (the full name of the group) were an all-girl 80s UK pop group relying on energy and enthusiasm rather than musical prowess to create their noisy post-punk tunes. |

Fuzzbox - Rules And Regulations To Pink Sunshine. Dble CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED179)
Have you ever wondered what the first Spice girls single was about? Frankly, no. But you see, most people these days think that Ginger, Posh, Sporty, Beaky, Dozy. . .oops- gave birth to "girl power", but as we're sure you know, there were other far more interesting bands doing it years before (and ones who actually had some talent). Birmingham's Fuzzbox, formerly the more unwieldy We've Got A Fuzzbox And We're Gonna Use It, were one such band. It was never known whether or not they could actually play their instruments that well, but the sounds they created with them would have scared most pop groups shitless. On the pop side, the album features many previously unreleased versions of their hit singles including an ultra live version of their finest hit "Rules are Regulations", dance remixes of "International Rescue", "Pink Sunshine", and "Self" and the band's own demos of "Do I Want To", "International Rescue" and "Pink Sunshine". Harking back to their earlier, pre-producer, more experimental material, It also includes a version of X Ray Spex's punk classic "Germ Free Adolescence", an alternative version of "Your Loss My Gain" and a duet with The Stranglers on "I Won’t Cry". This album is a truly great insight into how the band developed into a uniquely original and humorous outfit that oozed attitude. The album even features sleeve notes written by former guitarist and philosopher Jo Dunne. Also included within the CD booklet is a complete discography and features original 7" sleeves including the limited edition fuzz comic that accompanied their hit "Love Is A Slug". And you thought Christmas was over! | ![]() |

Gaye Bykers On Acid - Everything's Groovy. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED188)
Fronted by the flamboyant Mary Mary the band quickly became key players in the so-called 'grebo' scene which mixed traditional rock structures with psychedelia and dance. The Bykers received strong music press support for their first two singles on the In Tape label, 'Everything's Groovy' and 'Nosedive Karma.' Both were big independent chart hits staying in the charts for a combined total of 53 weeks. The main interest in both records was their driving hip-hop beat married to psychedelic guitars and rockist lyrics which was unheard of in the world of indie records at the time. The Bykers eventually disintegrated into increasing chaos as their career went on but they left an important legacy which is now on CD for the first time. This 16 track CD contains all the tracks from the first two singles plus additional tracks that have been hidden in the vaults for the past few years. Also included is a promotional video of "Everythings Groovy" as a bonus enhanced track. | ![]() |

Glaxo Babies - Dreams Interrupted The Bewilderment Years. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED291)
OK, so we all know the history of the Bristol scene- or do we? Well we know that Massive Attack, Tricky and Portishead were spawned by the Wild Bunch, who in turn came from members of The Pop Group, who also spawned Rip Rig & Panic, Pigbag and Maximum Joy. But did we know that the PG's musical mentors were none other than the Glaxo Babies, whose entire recordings are collected on this CD? Well we do now!! At time of writing, this album collects 15 previously heard tracks plus a host of bonus tunes as yet unconfirmed. Illustrating the talents of a unique and influential band, one of the many who laid the foundations for the funk-punk sound that is now copied by EVERYBODY from Islington to Ibrox, this is a worthwhile investment of your Ayrton Senna. | ![]() |

Glaxo Babies - Porlock Factor. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED 322)
After only eighteen months together, this group that were born out of the thriving Bristol punk scene in 1979 still managed to have an indie chart hit with their "This Is Your Life" EP, attract much love and respect from John Peel, tour on his legendary road show and be banned by the BBC. A highly influential act with a sense of unfinished business, the nucleus of the original band returned in 1985. These eighteen tracks are the resultive recordings. It's a mixture of melodic psychedelic pop and warped funk that sounds fresher that somehow sounds fresher now than it did in the1980's. | ![]() |

Goblin - Fantastic Voyage Of Goblin. CD.
(Cherry Red - CASA1CD)
Synonymous with writing the scores for Italian horror films of Dario Argento, this is a nineteen track best of that draws from the prog rockers soundtrack work. Each track is wonderfully effective as both a film underscore and as rock tracks that stand alone without the aid of the moving image. Loved by the sampler generation, they have been capable of achieving themes of suspense, action and the dramatic in progressive formats and textures. Includes tracks from the films "Suspiria", "Tenebre", "La Chiesa" and "Profondo Rosso." | ![]() |

Goodbye Mr Mackenzie - Hammer And Tongs. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED293)
Reissue of the second album from the Scots indie band who are sadly now destined to be remembered for the fact that their lineup included future Garbage star Shirley Manson on backing vocals than their own fine songwriting. This album was originally released in 1989: it appears here for the first time on CD since its original pressing, and contains several bonus tracks on tp of its original tracklisting, based mainly around their 'Now We Are Married' single which includes an interesting cover of the Velvets' "Candy Says". | ![]() |

Havana 3AM - Havana 3AM. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED201)
A first time CD release for Havana 3am's self titled 1991 album. The band formed by ex Clash bass player Paul Simonon, described as 'the coolest man ever to strap on a bass guitar ' conjures up a blend of Latino flavouring built on the solid base of Rockabilly. Their sound evokes images of Spaghetti Westerns, 1950's America and the heyday of Cuba's capital Havana all with a contemporary twist. The CD features the 12 original tracks from the album including the single "Reach The Rock" and other band favourites "Joyride", "Hey Amigo", "The Hardest Game" and "Blue Gene Vincent". | ![]() |

Hollywood Brats - Hollywood Brats. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED106)
Formed in 1972 the Hollywood Brats were punk long before the term was invented. Dressed in make-up and women's blouses they sought to shock, whilst making the music they wanted to make.Once the band had self-destructed, Matheson went on to record with Tools and Wreckless Eric's Last Orders, and Steel joining London SS briefly before Mat Dangerfield grabbed him to form the Boys in 1976. This CD has been lovingly assembled with biographies from vocalist Andrew Mattheson and guitarist Brady, plus lyrics. | ![]() |

Ian Gomm - Hold On - The Best Of. CD.

He also wrote for other artists, including Glen Campbell, Marshall Crenshaw and Jona Lewie. This is the first time a full CD overview of his own recordings has been released, including his 1979 US hit 'Hold On'. Ian Hunter - Dirty Laundry. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED 321)
Re-release of an album previously only out in Norway. By 1994 Ian Hunter was re-gathering his strength after the sad death the previousyear of friend, guitarist and long-time right-hand man Mick Ronson. Keyboarist Casino Steel (The Boys) was planning to record an album with some friends (including Honest John Plain, Glen Matlock, Blue Weaver and Darrell Bath from the British Punk New Wave movement) Darrell Bathand invited Ian down to the sessions. The album that emerged was a hard rocking affair that brought Hunter closer to his Mott The Hoople roots than he had been in years. Recorded at Abbey Road and in Oslo, the mixture of Hunter originals and tracks from the rest of the band create a rocking twelve tracks that will delight any Hunter fan who have been waiting for the re-release of this long unavailable album. | ![]() |

Jegsy Dodd & The Original Sinners - Wake Up And Smell The Offy. CD.
(Cherry Red - PIFFCD001)
A humorous, witty and most of all musically eclectic slice of Scouse lunacy from the man formerly behind the Sons Of Harry Cross, a spiritual brother to Frank Sidebottom, Ted Chippington and Half Man Half Biscuit. Covering styles from country to hard rock to ambient electro, but always with that same wry Northern humour (as evinced by titles such as 'Birkenhead Revisited' 'Pete Marsh, Where've You Been All My Life' 'Giro Day' 'Born To Be Mild' and 'Poetry Doesn't Rhyme') Could this man be a genius? Possibly, but they'll never sell it in America with a title like that- although that was probably the idea. | ![]() |

(Cherry Red - CRBRED302)
The 2006 return from the master of UK indie pop lyricism, Jim Bob (formerly of Carter USM and Jim Superstereoworld) and what a return. A concept album no less, about (funnily enough) a school- complete with a 12 piece orchestra which premiered the album at a London gig in December 2005. And with songtitles like 'Special Wants And Special Needs' 'Storm In The Staff Room' and 'Taking Care Of The Caraetaker' we can be sure that his sense of humour is still intact!! John Howard - As I Was Saying. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDBRED293)
He's back again- the songwriter who in 1975 unleashed 'Kid In A Big World' on a totally unprepared public. It may have taken them 30 years before they were ready to listen, but the man sure is making up for lost time- this will be his third release of new material in a year. Louche, foppish, decadent and aboundly talented, Howard is the sum of everything that made Bowie, Rundgren, Elton John,(getting carried away here me thinks) Randy Newman and even Jobriath so special, but one hundred percent his own creation. Songs like 'Oh Do Give It A Rest Love' 'Taking it All To Heart' The Dilemma Of The Homosapien' and 'The Time Of Day' are so timeless they could have been written at any point in the last 40 years, with the playing of Bootleg Beatle Andre Barreau and ex Lush/ Mary Chain/ Earl Brutus bassist and self confessed glam freak Phil King providing the perfect compliment to Howard's peerless lyrics and melodies. And there's a new, full-on stackheeled version of 'Dear Glitterheart' from this year's 'Dangerous Hours' album. As the title suggests, he may have been 'rudely interrupted by 30 years' but it won't be that long before he's the name on the lips of music lovers everywhere. | ![]() |

June Brides - Every Conversation- The Story Of June Brides And Phil Wilson. Dble CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED273)
Amazing hooplah for your mooplah- everything this fondly-remembered (by some) UK indie act ever recorded together on two CDs, including their Peel and Long sessions and the solo work of frontman and lynchpin Phil Wilson. Notable for the use of brass in an indie context (not explored fully since the days of Dexys) , the original album "There Are Eight Million Stories", which comprises most of Disc 1, was No 1 in the Indie Charts for four weeks in 1985, and is as essential to the genre as the Wedding Present's "George Best" or Half Man Half Biscuit's "Back In The DHSS". The 41 track package is topped off with very VERY detailed sleevenotes and a complete discography. | ![]() |

Kevin Hewick - Tender Bruises And Scars: The Factory & Cherry Red Recording. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED232)
The Rarities Collection marked 25 years of Cherry Red Records, and includes a collection of rare and hard to find tracks that were released on Cherry Red Records in the 1980s marking the label's ability to forge a distinct style out of introspective, willowy pop. This is the forth release in the Rarities series and is compilation of Kevin Hewick’s Factory and Cherry Red Records studio recordings made between 1980-1983. Kevin was originally signed to Factory Records beginning his career supporting the likes of Joy Division, whose first post-Curtis recording is exhibited here in ‘Haystack’ as they backed Kevin, before becoming the seminal band known today as New Order. By February 1983 Kevin had signed with the label and was recording the ‘Such Hunger For Love’ album, he also went onto record with The Sound, re-recording tracks such as ‘Neath the Dancing Waves’ and ‘Amber’ for a Cherry Red 12" EP. This album includes not only these tracks but also the Factory single, the Cherry Red single b-sides and an enhanced video for the Factory Records single Ophelia’s Drinking Song. | ![]() |

King Of The Slums - Blowzy Weirdos. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDBRED 93)
1991 album from Madchester scenesters. Often likened to the Stone Roses, they were more like a cross between Happy Mondays and Charlatans - poppy and dancey but with a real sneer. This album finds them just on the verge of breaking big - of course they split up soon after in true Madchester style leaving them in the annals of rock n roll obscurity. |
|
Laibach - Nova Akropola. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED 67)
Eastern European industrial experimentalists with a heavy political leaning, Laibach have often found themselves in conflict with the authorities. Expressing their views strongly through their music both here and on their continued career with Mute Records, they are still actively pursuing their own agenda. |
|
Laibach - Nova Akropola. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED67)
Slovenian industrial terrorists Laibach have ruthlessly pursued their own agenda since the mid-80s: despite accusations of being right wing, they believe more in the order of chaos and destruction- which, if you don't know already, is exactly what their music sounds like. They are also the only band to our knowledge who have covered an entire Beatles album in a foreign language!! This album has been unavailable for a while, but is now avaialable once more in a stylish limited edition digipak. A good depiction of their early style (more similar to the doom groan of early Swans than the clanging noise later to come), sung in Slovenian, German and English. Key tracks: 'Vojna Poema' 'Die Liebe' and 'Vade Retro'. | ![]() |

Landscape - From The Tea-Rooms Of Mars To The Hell-Holes Of Uranus. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED209)
Despite what certain Freak Emporium employees think, this 1980-released album is something of a masterpiece, and one of the lost classics of the synth pop era. Most will remember the band's classic single 'Einstein A Go Go', and that appears here alongside their two slightly smaller hits 'European Man' and 'Norman Bates' (the latter of which had a banned promo video now sought after by horror buffs everywhere!!) but the rest of the tracks, such as 'Face Of The 80s' and 'The Doll's House' are also excellent examples of minimalist electronica. The fact that Richard Burgess and his cohorts began life as an all-instrumental jazz-fusion outfit before 'uncannily' switching styles in the midst of the synth pop craze becomes apparent on the epic-length title track, but otherwise you'd be none the wiser- especially after hearing the pure pop of the four bonus tracks included, some of which were slated for the follow-up album (but only one of which ever made it). The booklet includes all the original artwork, sleevenotes and a complete band discography incorporating some of the band's original sleeves- a sumptuous package and a great way to rediscover a lost gem. | ![]() |

Williams, wielding a chainsaw, rifle or explosives, then used to destroy everything on stage. Plasmatics - New Hope For The Wretched. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED204)
The Plasmatics were a theatrical hardcore band which incorporated such violent acts as blowing up Cadillacs and chainsawing guitars in half into its performances in 1980. They signed for Stiff Records in 1980 and enjoyed plenty of music and tabloid press attention, mainly focused on front woman Wendy O Williams who had the habit of wearing very little for pictures. The album "New Hope For The Wretched" charted in the top 75 along with the single "Butcher Baby".This release brings together the original 12 track album, two studio tracks delivered but not originally used and five additional live tracks. The live tracks are tight, loud and edgy and show that the band could really live up to the hype on stage. | ![]() |

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason was brought in to produce an equally superb second album, released in January1971. Principal Edwards Magic Theatre - Soundtrack. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED306)
If you are looking for all out late' 60's hippy acid folk rock then this is the real deal. With a large band of musicians and a traveling circus troupe Principal Edwards Magic Theatre created a witchy magical LSD inspired brew of electric acid rock and off the wall whimsical folk (in places like Comus or Mormos) The multi-media PEMT cut a compellingly original swathe through a late-1960s music scene seemingly inhabited by wall-to-wall blues bands. Their first ever gig was witnessed by benefactor and producer JohnPeel. The legendary DJ promptly signed them to his Dandelion label. 'I guess he liked what he heard,' says guitarist and chief songwriter Root Cartwright.A stand-alone single released before the first album, 'Ballad (Of The Big Girl Now And A Mere Boy)'/ 'Lament For The Earth', is included in this package as a bonus track.'Soundtrack' hit the record racks in August 1969, the third Dandelion long-player to be released in short order following debut efforts from folk singers Bridget St John and Beau.Totally beautiful, unhinged, incense imbued velveteen, floppy madness. | ![]() |

Compilation that contains all 20 tracks (yes, there weren't that many) offically released by the band who alongside The Undertones, Stiff Little Fingers and Rudi, summed up the uncompromising attitude of Ulster towards punk rock. Enemies of both Protestants and Catholics alike (probably the only thing until Good Friday that both sides agreed on.,Their best known tunes include 'Paid In Kind' and ''Capital Letters" both of which are included here, as is the still highly controversial "Wild Catholic Boy". None of these tunes have ever been on CD before: the disc is fleshed out by the inclusion of previously unheard material plus a full set of lyrics, gubbins and indepth sleevenotes compiled by the band themselves. Punk as fuck and no mistake. | ![]() |

Runaways - Live In Japan. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED241)
Because the Runaways were massive in Japan it stands to reason that their only live album was recorded there. This is a performance from the bands summer 1977 tour. Was originally only available as a Japanese vinyl import during the 70's and 80's. Now at long last available on CD. | ![]() |

Runaways (With Cherie Currie) - Flaming School Girls. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED253)
Critically acclaimed but never receiving their due, The Runaways were formed in Hollywood in 1975, with the help of music svengali / producer/dirty old man Kim Fowley, becoming the first all female Rock ‘N’ Roll band to actually make an impression on the record buying public and musicians alike -although more so now than then. The Runaways were originally hailed as a manufactured band due to Fowley’s involvement, however, their eponymous debut album soon proved their worth as musicians. With Joan Jett on rhythm guitar, Sandy West on drums, Lita Ford on lead guitar, Jackie Fox on bass and Cherrie Currie on lead vocals, 'The Runaways' (1976) contained tracks such as the snarling "Cherry Bomb" and the brilliant "American Nights" and prove The Runaways rocked with the best of them- with an average age of 16. Respected in their day by bands such as Blondie and The Ramones, and now cited as a major influence by bands such as Courtney Love, Bikini Kill, L7, The Donnas and Babes In Toyland - The Runaways' time has finally come! Originally released on vinyl by Cherry Red in 1980, due to the popularity of our recent Runaways re-issues, and demand from the public, this album has re-issued on CD for the first time. | ![]() |

Sal Solo - Heart And Soul. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED311)
It was in the 1980s that Sal Solo came to prominence, being the lead singer, songwriter and producer ofClassix Nouveaux. The band had chart success at home and abroad and were renowned for their hardwork, performing all over the UK and extensively around the world. In 1983 Sal had become disillusioned with the record industry and had taken himself off to SanDamiano, in Northern Italy. It was there that he had a life-changing experience, he became happier withhimself, relaxed.Sal wrote and released a single called San Damiano which became a huge hit, not only in the UK butaround the world, even making it to number one in Poland. TV, radio and numerous press interviewsfollowed. This was a very different Sal Solo to the one the public had seen only a couple of yearspreviously.Music and You was the follow-up single in 1985. Sal asked The London Community Gospel Choir toguest on the record and together they appeared on various peak time television programmes.Sal appeared on quite a few British Sunday evening television programmes including The Rock GospelShow. It was Sal's manager, Falcon Stuart, who later said: "Sal is one of those rare artistes who isprepared to stand up and be counted both musically and morally."Includes 5 bonus tracks. | ![]() |

Servants - Reserved. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED297)
The Servants were formed in London in 1985 and were based around the carefully crafted guitar work of David Westlake. Phil King, who went onto play with Felt and Biff Bang Pow (and who now plays with 70s cult glam legends John Howard and Brett Smiley and puts together interesting compilations for RPM Records), was also in the band. Their first two singles, 'She's Always Hiding' and 'The Sun, A Small Star,' both on The Head label, attracted good press interest and both made the independent singles chart. Westlake then went on to a solo deal with Creation Records while The Servants reformed around future Auteurs and Black Box Recorder man, Luke Haines. Also involved in the new line up was Hugh Whitaker who had previously been with the Housemartins. Luke Haines wrote the sleeve notes for this release. With sleevenotes from Luke Haines this is a long overdue retrospective. | ![]() |

Sex Gang Children - Song And Legend. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED276)
Long overdue CD issue of this classic 80s UK Goth album from one of the seminal bands in the genre, led by the ebullient Andi Sex Gang, whose tales of debauchery and sickness have thrilled two generations- both during their original incarnation up to 1984 and in their many reformations since. A massive seller on the indie chart at the time, this is the album's debut appearance on CD and four bonus tracks have been added. Packaging includes extensive sleevenotes, a complete discography of the band and Andi's solo career, and several never-before-seen pix. Crimp that hair, buckle those wincklepickers, and grab this with both painted claws. | ![]() |

Shampoo - We Are Shampoo. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED 317)
Writers of the first Manic Street Preachers fanzine Last Exit, Jacqui Blake and Carrie Askew were stil in their teens when the formed Shampoo. Their early girl punk were ignored by the masses but embraced by the music press. It wasn't until they released We Are Shampoo and their monster single "Trouble" in 1994 that people started to take notice. By now much more radio friendly, they became the flag wavers of pop with attitude that appealed to the underground as well as the mainstream. This twelve track release has been expanded with six bonus tracks (b sides from the singles). | ![]() |

Songs In The Key Of Z - Various. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED175)
A very unique 20 track compilation of 'outsider' music. Basically the weirdest recordings by assorted weirdos. Oddball, indescribable musuc. There is a growing interest in 'outsider' music and this is the definitive compilation so far. | ![]() |

Songs In The Key Of Z - Volumes 1 & 2 - Various Artists. Dble CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED261)
For the first time both volumes of the exceptional Songs in the Key of Z series are available as one double CD package. Subtitled "The Curious Universe of Outsider Music" these albums are an often humourous, often terrifying but always interesting journey through uncharted musical territory. Positioned on the very edge of what many consider the definition of music, these varied songs are chock full of the outsider spirit and are blazen in their refusal to be constrained by musical rules and regulations. Featuring the outstanding Daniel Johnston, who graced the t-shirt of Kurt Cobain on many an occasion, The Shaggs, Tiny Tim, Jandek, Joe Meek, Captain Beefheart, Stardust Cowboy, Shooby Taylor and tons more visionary lunatics. 37 tracks of pure, unadulturated musical exploration. Ridiculously highly recommended!! | ![]() |

Spizz - Where's Captain Kirk? - The Very Best Of. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED212)
Comprehensive best of compilation from the post punk loon Spizz (often to be found in a boiler suit alongside partner in crime Pete Petrol). Originally performing as Spizz 77, he had a tendency to change his band's name every year (names included Spizzoil, Spizzenergi and Athletico Spizz 80). The music is strange industrial punk music and (needless to say) includes the legendary title track. | ![]() |

Stack Waddy - Stack Waddy. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED 318)
The self titles debut album by John Peel's favourite Dandelion Records band Stack Waddy. A group that had to bump up the megre money made from gigs by working on construction sites, the frustration of this clearly boiled over into their performances on stage and on record. They were everything rock n roll should be; raw, rockin' power bottled in 1971 and unleashed again here. This ten track release has been expanded with nine previously unreleased bonus tracks from the "lost" Marquee sessions of 1972. | ![]() |

Subway Organisation / The Best Of - Various. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED268)
What do the Soup Dragons, Flatmates, PWEI, Korova Milk Bar (wonder what film their name came from?) The Clouds (featuring a pre-Fannies Norman Blake) and Choo Choo Train (later Velvet Crush) have in common? Well, apart from producing classic, inventive indie guitar pop/rock betwixt 1985 and 1989, they were all 'signed' (in the loosest EVER sense of the word) to Bristol-based label Subway, run by Flatmates mainman Martin Whitehead. Like Postcard, the label epitomised the DIY,tape trading, fanzine-based approach to indie (ironically the same approach used in black metal circles back then!) with the emphasis on "music" rather than "industry". As it should be!! This 20-track CD rounds up the best of the label's 4 year reign. | ![]() |

Terry Hall has enjoyed almost two decades of success with several bands including The Specials, Fun Boy Three and Vegas, and also as a solo artist. The album explores the trio's love of sixties pop, with a breezy and light musical feel, though the lyrical concerns are at times downbeat and a little kitsch. |

The history of the UK anarcho-punk scene of the early '80's, explored in minute detail. Tim Rose - Snowed In (The Last Recordings). CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED239)
"Snowed In" was a hard, if not near impossible album to make. Producing Tim Rose in his final year was tough - like trying to tame a lion with a rubber chair. Recording days were troubled and long, vocal takes thrown away, chairs smashed, banjo strings snapped and egos squashed into the lyric sheets - but worth every minute when you hear Tim’s vocals, caught like a snapshot from an old brownie camera. Painting an honest picture through music and song is the hardest thing to achieve, but even through his illness Tim did this, his every take filled with truth, theatre and pain.'- Colin Winston-Fletcher , Tim Rose's producer for "Snowed In". A gruff stylist and individual, Tim Rose was originally signed as a solo artist by Columbia Records in 1964 after the demise of the Big Three. Splitting his time between the US and the UK Rose made many excellent albums right up to his recent death, also touring with the likes of Robert Plant and was most recently noted for signing the theme song to the hit movie "East Is East". Along with Lou Reed, Tom Waits, Neil Young and Leonard Cohen, Tim is an original, his authentic voice remains undimmed by time, his credibility and integrity are indelible. | ![]() |

Toyah - Mayhem. CD.

The third in the critically acclaimed Toyah series, this album was originally issued as a limited edition collectors release (vinyl only) by Safari Records in 1985. It compiles a wealth of previously unreleased and unheard rare and archive material, and provides a perfect companion to the Safari Singles Collections and ‘Wild Essence’ DVD (also available this month). This fascinating album gives an insight into work in progress by Toyah in the late 1970s and early 80s. Mayhem comprises finished songs not included on EPs and albums, demos and alternate versions unavailable anywhere else. The 15 tracks which make up 'Mayhem' include the majestic opener 'Clapham Junction,' an alternate version of her classic 'Danced' and a unique cover of Greg Lake's 'I Believe in Father Christmas' (ironic when you consider she ended up marrying someone who was in a band with him) -- originally recorded for Granada TV's 1982 special 'Pop Goes Christmas.' Tracks from the demo tape which got Toyah signed to Safari Records in 1978 also feature in this anthology of lost classics, curiosities and studio doodles. The CD includes the full 15 track album with three tracks only included on the original cassette version. Toyah - The Safari Records Singles Collection Vol 1 1979-81. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED266)
First of two volumes documenting the classic era of this much-underrated Birmingham vocalist and actress, now married to Robert Fripp. Alongside Siouxsie Sioux, Hazel O Connor, Lene Lovich and some might even say Kate Bush, Toyah Wilcox epitomised the new-found propensity for eccentric female vocalists in the post-punk, post-Rock Follies era: this CD compilation includes, alongside genuine hit single 'It's A Mystery' several unsung avant-garde New Wave classics such as 'Ieya' 'Neon Womb' 'Danced' and 'Victims Of The Riddle' all of which demonstrate why Toyah was somewhat unique and ripe for rediscovery. Detailed sleeve notes include quotes from Mrs Fripp herself. "Zi-on- Zoober-ron. . ." | ![]() |

(Cherry Red - CDGAFFER 37)
This 14 track tribute is a celebration of the kings of Europe, Manchester United. We've Got A Fuzzbox And We're Gonna Use It (aka Fuzzbox) - Complete BBC Sessions. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED213)
Totally off the wall collection of the early John Peel/Janice Long sessions recorded in 1986 and 1987 by this Birmingham-based band of quite frankly mad teenage girls. These predate their second incarnation as simply 'Fuzzbox' from 1988 onwards, weherupon their sound was cleaned up for mainstream paydirt- at the time of these recordings the band couldn't actually play the instruments they used (on purpose!) and made a discordant out of tune racket that one can only liken to an adolescent all-female Residents or Throbbing Gristle, albeit with a desire to write three minute pop songs (even if they couldn't) The best known tracks of that era are here: 'Love Is A Slug' 'Rules And Regulations' 'What's The Point' and their 'unique' readings of 'Spirit In The Sky' and 'Bohemian Rhapsody' plus 'Self' which was later reworked as a pop hit for them. CD booklet is crammed full of photos, a complete discogarphy, weblinks and a reproduction of their limited edition 'Fuzz' comic. Like Hayzi Fantayzee, Big Daddy or Jimmy The Hoover, they could only have happened in the 80s- although whether that was a good thing or not is up to you to decide. Caveat emptor. . . | ![]() |
