Ananda Shankar - Ananda Shankar. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM05452)
For lovers of psychedelic sitars, here is the classic 1970 release by Ananda Shankar (Ravi's son). A full rock band backs Ananda, a hip and genuine master of the sitar. Great raga instrumentals, as well as versions of "Jumping Jack Flash" and "Light My Fire" are laced with trippy moogs, effects etc. Easily the best album of it's kind.Sitars and psychedelia,a 1970 cult classic at a decent price. | ![]() |

Appaloosa - Appaloosa. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM05942)
Much-requested and difficult to find album by this acoustic folk-soul combo from Cambridge Mass, who, legend has it, were turned down and signed by Al Kooper within one day. Subsequently he and other B S & T alumni turned up on the album, which in our opinion is a lost classic (aren't they all, duckie?) Original artwork is featured, alongside new notes and quotes from bandleader Rob Compton. | ![]() |

Apple Pie Motherhood Band - Apple Pie. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM849)
Briefly named Sacred Mushroom when they were the house band at the Bitter End in the mid-’60s, this Bosstown Sound band wentto the other end of the spectrum as far as names go and named themselves Apple Pie Motherhood Band prior to signing to Atlantic forthe two albums.None other than Tom Down produced Apple Pie, and you can tell, because the guitar sound is, well, tasty! Includes "Orangutang"; "I Just Want to Make Love to You";"Brown Eyed Handsome Man"; "Granmother Hooker"; "Get Ready";" Super Music Man";"Gypsy", and "He Turned You On". | ![]() |

Association - Association. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM03832)
1969 release which saw the band move towards their own creative control and together with producer John Boylan they moved towards a more country rock sound as well as offering a dose of their usual eclecticism. | ![]() |
|
Association - Birthday. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM03822)
1968 album that flirted with hip pop psychedelia whilst keeping the trademark cathedral-like harmonies of previous albums. In places their is a strong similarity to HP Lovecraft's first album and the choice of session musicians from "Forever Changes" session recordings make this a must for any 60's collector. Great LA psych pop. | ![]() |
|
Association - Insight Out. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM03812)
1967 release from the US folk rock/psych band that contained the hits "Windy" & "Never My Love". It was an album that contained some of their best work and saw the band move towards a more progressive psych sound on the ambitious, anti war song "Requeim for the Masses". Great guitar work and beuatiful harmonies combine on a superb album. | ![]() |

Association - Live. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM03842)
The Associations live album was a stunning affair which showed the band were able to hit those incredible harmonies and oprove what a fine folk rock group they were in a live setting. This single CD has the full 74 minute show recorded in 1970. | ![]() |
|
Association - Renaissance. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM03802)
Jim Yester's brother took over the production duties from Curt Boettcher for this 1966 release, and the result was one of the groups most varied albums and the track (and single choice) "Pandora's Heebie Jeebies", was the strangest, most psychedelic song on the album. The remainder of the album veered from folk-rock pop harmony sounds to bubblegum pop without a hitch. Great US '60's psych folk rock. | ![]() |
|
Association - Stop Your Motor. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM03852)
This was to be the bands last album for Warner Brothers from 1971 and was really Jimmy Webb's homage to fellow songwriter PF Sloan, plus some more tasty tunes in the country rock vein first explored on the self titled album from 1969. Great US '60's harmony psych pop/rock. | ![]() |

Au Go-Go Singers - They Call Us. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM-0112-2)
Last copy of this early sixties collection of well crafted and largely acoustic folk rock is notable mainly for the inclusion in the ranks of Steven Stills and Richie Furay (aged 19 and 20 respectively!). Featuring fine versions of standards like "High Flying Bird", "What Have They Done To The Rain?" and "San Francisco Bay Blues", this album is definitely more than just a historical footnote.Last copy | ![]() |

Badfinger - Badfinger. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM809)
The Finger's debut album on Warner Bros was first out in 1974. This time around, Chris Thomas was the man behind the desk and every band member contributes songs. Commercially they were already in freefall but artistically they were still riding high, this album finds the group experimenting with as many different styles as they possibly can and continuing where they left off from their last Apple album Ass. A crying shame that this didn't make any impact on the charts. | ![]() |
|
Badfinger - Wish You Were Here. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM810)
Due to ongoing legal wranglings and financial struggles this mighty power pop rock record was pulled shortly after its release. This really is a crying shame as this is the sound of a group on absolute top form. A fantastically cohesive album which is packed with strong songwriting, fans rightly view this is as their crowning achievement. Again Chris Thomas produces this nine track effort but this time he had time to work with the band through the whole process (in comparison with their eponymous album where he was the third producer brought in to steady the sinking ship) and creates a brilliantly clean production that suites the band well. A genuinely lost classic. | ![]() |

Batdorf & Rodney - Batdorf & Rodney. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM05962)
The US duo moved to Asylum records for their 1972 album, which features the beautiful "Poor Man's Dream" & the upbeat "Happy Town".With Batdorfs lead vocals and the twin guitar attack you need this in your collection. In the Poco/Dillard & Clark school of American country guitar rock. | ![]() |
|
Batdorf & Rodney - Off The Shelf. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM05972)
Their 1971 debut (originally on Atlantic) boasted a bang-up back-up band of bassist Chris Ethridge, drummer John Barbata and Muscle Shoals keyboardist Barry Beckett, and made the charts, with the song 'Can You See Him' getting the most airplay. Other tracks include 'Oh My Surprise; Me and My Guitar; Working Man, Blind Man; You Are the One; Dont You Hear Me Callin; Where Were You and I; Never See His Face Again; One Day; Farm', and 'Let Me Go'. If you love guitar, these guys are 'really' good. | ![]() |

Beau Brummels - Bradleys Barn. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM3172)
Bradley's Barn was the famed studio of Nashville producer Owen Bradley, where the famed San Francisco band went to record this 68' classic. The band's country accent really came out on this album, though it still retains the trademark folk-rock harmonic flourishes that the band were famous for. | ![]() |
|
Beau Brummels - Triangle. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM3182)
A haunting beautiful album that blew millions of minds. The jewel in the band's crown, Triangle(1967) was a million miles from the band's earlier hit-making formula and demonstrated Ron Elliott's growing maturation as a songwriter. The band's usual styles (folk, country swing, and Brit-invasion pop) are still heard in the mix, but the tunes here assume an added aura of mysticism. Buried commercially by the likes of Sgt. Pepper etc, Triangle shared its premise of songs loosely united by a common theme in this case, a ruminative dream cycle (though to call Triangle a concept album might be overstating the case). The exquisite "Magic Hollow," graced by Van Dyke Parks' delicate harpsichord, was surely the LP's highlight. Plucked as a single, it barely dented the charts, yet remains one of the most beautiful tunes in the entire Brummels canon. | ![]() |

Beaver And Krause - Gandharva. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM06412)
CD re-issue of the early 70's album that was a major, major influence on Pink Floyd's 'Darkside of the Moon'. Partly recorded in a San Francisco Cathedral, the album features the ethereal vocal of Patrice Holloway as well as guest musicians such as Mike Bloomfield, Gerry Mulligan and Ronnie Montrose supplementing the twin Moogs of Beaver and Krause. | ![]() |
|
Beaver And Krause - In A Wild Sanctuary. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM06402)
This time the duo used sounds found in nature (or, more accurately, in the city of San Francisco) as a compositional element for the first time. Nowadays, of course, the use of nature sounds is commonplace, especially in New Age recordings, but back in the late ’60s the idea was revolutionary. And this was far from a New Age record, employing such serious sessionmen as Dave Grusin, Howard Roberts and Bud Shank. The song titles give a clue as to what kind of unique listening experience you’re in for: 'Walking Green Algae Blues; Another Part of Time; Spaced; Aurora Hominis; So Long as the Waters Flow; Salute to the Vanishing Bald Eagle; Sanctuary; And There Was Morning', and 'People’s Park'. | ![]() |

Brewer And Shipley - Weeds/Tarkio. CD.
(Collectors Choice - DMC 13606)
Two great albums by this often forgotten late LA country/folk rock duo. These albums from 1969 and 1970 respectively are full of hippy country rock/pop with electric slide guitar, fiddles, honky tonk piano and CSN like harmonies. Weeds includes a great cover version of "All Along the Watchtower" and "Witchi-tai-to" whilst Tarkio contains the stoner classic "One Toke Over the Line" along with other gems. Essential Californian country influenced rock/pop. | ![]() |

Clear Light (USA) - Clear Light. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 2712)
Perhaps the last great major label US '60s psych album that hasn't previously hit CD finally makes it. A psychedelic masterpiece that sounds like a cross between The Doors and Love! Like those bands Clear Light came from LA but had two drummers! Searing acid guitar leads, swirling keyboards and the powerful vocals of Cliff DeYoung all add up to create a monster album. Includes the single 'She's Ready To Be Free' which was featured in the film The President's Analyst but did not appear on the original LP. The CD also features an interview with the bands leader Bob Seal. | ![]() |

Collectors - Collectors. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM04992)
Official reissue of this amazing 1968 debut by the Canadian psych band who later became Chilliwack. A very psycedelic album, produced by Rolling Stones/Electric Prunes producer Dave Hassinger - the first 5 tracks are cool enough melodic psych 60's styled numbers (the highlight being Lydia Purple) whilst the 6th track "What Love" is a 19 minute trip of sax, flute, gregorian chant and psychedelic guitar that under the right circumstances fries your mind! Unmissable! | ![]() |
|
Collectors - Grass And Wild Strawberries. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM05002)
Official CD reissue of the 1968 album by this great Canadian band who later became Chilliwack. Very much in the vein of the Doors, and Electric Prunes (the band shared the same producer as the latter - David Hassinger - and took the Prunes place on much of the recording of Mass in F Minor). This is a score to a play by George Ryga with some driving, off kilter songs with some progressive touches. Including "The long Rain", "Don't turn Away (fom me)" and "Dream of Desolation" etc. | ![]() |

Cowsills - We Can Fly. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM0612)
Yes, the Cowsill brothers were the real-life inspiration for the Partridge Family, but by this, their third album for MGM released in 1969, they had moved beyond the bubblegum into a whole new, art pop realm. Youll hear Kinks and especially Beatles influences on these lightly psychedelic songs, with great production touches, orchestral flourishes and, of course, superb harmonies. In short, this is a flat-out sunshine pop classic, here reissued with new notes featuring new Cowsills quotes.. Includes: 'We Can Fly" "Gray", "Sunny Day"; "Heaven Held" " A Time for Remembrance"; "Gotta Get Away from It All" "In Need of a Friend" "Yesterdays Girl" "Beautiful Beige"; "Mister Flynn", and 'One Man Show"'. | ![]() |

Crabby Appleton - Crabby Appleton. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM2852)
Excellent U.S. rock band led by Michael Fennelly (Sagittarius & Millenium) who made this their debut album ; a charming collection of power pop, moderate-tempo rock, and folky rock, with the occasional emphasis on organ-powered material. There are no fillers. Many of the songs were reportedly written by Fennelly for another (albeit short-lived) Boettcher-related project, Big Shot. These 'aborted' songs got as far as being recorded and they featured backing by the Millennium's rhythm section as well as Murray Planta of the Goldebriars and were produced by fellow Millennium guitarist/songwriter Joey Stec, However Together records proved to be not so 'together' and the Big Shot album never materialized. It's nice to have the songs reappear here… | ![]() |

Crabby Appleton - Rotten To The Core. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM2862)
This excellent second album from the ex Millenium/Sagittarius outfit was released in October 1971. The band's second album, was the last for the group and it captures them reaching out to find a sound of their own, veering off into boogie rock and heavier Zeppelin-esque romps, twice removed from the plaintive power pop and conga-driven rock of their debut. Rousing barrelhouse piano and varied string instruments (mandolins and violins) is only one reason for investigating this excellent group. Highly original and worth investgating… | ![]() |

Curved Air - Curved Air Conditioning. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM01482)
1970 debut album by this excellent psych progressive UK band originally issued as a picture disc. With the vocals of Sonja Kristina the electric violin of Darryl Way and Francis Monkman's Keyboards this album soars like a more progressive It's A Beautiful Day. Inventive and consistently surprising. | ![]() |

Curved Air - Phantasmagoria. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM160-2)
Curved Air's third album from 1972 is, like the two albums that preceded it, classic early '70's UK progressive rock. Mixing West Coast guitar licks with multi-layered pastoral progressive rock (violin, flute, harpsichord etc) and Sonja Kristina's soft vocals, the result is gentle and harmonious in a style that is similar to Renaissance. "Melinda More Or Less" is exquisite... | ![]() |

Curved Air - Second Album. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM-159-2)
Fine second album from 1971 fronted by the smooth silky vocals of Sonja Kristina, the violin of Darryl Way and the keyboard work of Francis Monkman. Regarded by some as one of the finest if not the finest UK progressive rock album of the '70's. Includes the epic "Piece Of Mind" | ![]() |

Cyrus Farrar - Cyrus. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM6732)
Debut album from the former Modern Folk Qaurtet frontman, recorded in Los Angeles and featuring a fair few of that city's prime musicians such as Rodney Dillard, Mike Botts, Alex Hassilev and three members of jazzers Oregon. Includes 'Softly Through The Darkness' 'I Think He's Hiding' and 'Springtime Bouquet' |

Cyrus Farrar - Islands. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM6732)
Second of two reissues of highly collectable folk albums from ex-Whiskeyhill and Modern Folk Quartet frontman Farr. Includes apperances from Rodney Dillard, Mike Botts and even three original members of chamber-jazz-proggers Oregon. Very remeniscent of Fred Neil and actually including a version of 'Dolphins'. |
|
David Ackles - American Gothic. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM03112)
The years have only been kind to the album considered David Ackles' masterpiece when it was released. Ackles combined an early '70s singer-songwriter sensibility with a theater music background that placed him as much in the tradition of Brecht-Weill and Jacques Brel as Bob Dylan. Not only are his songs fully realized, dramatic statements, but Ackles proves himself a warm, accomplished singer. When this album got no higher than #167 in the charts, Ackles' fans were heartbroken. Decades later, American Gothic remains one of those great albums that never found its audience. It waits to be rediscovered | ![]() |
|
David Ackles - David Ackles. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM3122)
Ackles' brilliant self-titled debut LP introduced a singer/songwriter quirky even by the standards of Elektra records. An impressive debut that stands on its own, though comparisons can be made to Brecht/Weill (in the songwriting and occasional circus-like tunes) and Tim Buckley (in the arrangements and phrasing). Definitely his most rock-oriented record, courtesy of the typically tasteful, imaginative Elektra production and instrumentation. One of the overlooked albums of the decade. Features the original version of The Road To Cairo covered by Brian Auger Julie Driscoll and The Trinity. | ![]() |
|
David Ackles - Subway To The Country. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM03132)
The second album by the dark '60's US singer songwriter. Mean and moody songs that straddle the folk rock/crooner genres with a weird otherworldly feel. While comparisons to Randy Newman are natural and, in places even valid, they fall short of the mark. Ackles' music is much darker, already deeply entrenched in the American Gothic his fourth album would be named after. A fine testament to Ackles' truly awesome poetic power as both a writer and a singer. | ![]() |
|
David Steinberg - Disguised As A Normal Person. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM6752)
This 1969 album marked David Steinberg's recording debut, and it wasted no time making a rather controversial splash, causing uproar with the track 'The Coast, Bullshit And Nixon' (well, obviously) plus the multi part sermon that took up 90 percent of side two, proving that great long songs were not exclusively the preserve of Dylan and/ or progressive rockers. One of the true nutters of the folk era- it's just a shame that Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy didn't write a character based on him. |
|
Delaney & Bonnie - Accept No Substitute. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM2832)
Underated gospel tinged Southern rock album originally released by Elektra in 1969 which featured an excellent supporting cast of musicians including Rita Coolidge, Jim Keltner, and future Derek & the Dominos members Carl Radle and Bobby Whitlock. The album gives the listener a taste of what gospel might sound like if performed by a good '60s rock band. The track "Ghetto," is a beautiful display of soulful piano with strings, and for those unfamiliar with Delaney & Bonnie's other work, Accept No Substitute is a good place to start | ![]() |
|
Dillards - Back Porch Bluegrass / Pickin' And Fiddlin'. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM7322)
First two Electra albums by the bluegrass group. Produced by Jim Dickson (Byrds) the first album was rejected by the traditional Country community because it contained all original songs! Pickin… was their all instrumental rebuke to the first albums panning that was instantly accepted by the scene. This is a great collection of albums that pre dates their transformation into a folk rock group, it's strictly bluegrass territory here. |
|
Dillards - Copperfields. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM-281-2)
1970 album from bluegrass/sunshine pop crossover group The Dillards. Wonderful arrangements and harmonies with an 'all-encompassing' ethos that added jazz, soul and folk that made this so much more than just another country rock album. Includes the pop orchestrated "Touch Her If You Can" and their beautiful accapella rendition of the Beatles "Yesterday". As important in the development of country rock as The Byrds' 'Sweetheart Of The Rodeo'. Essential. | ![]() |

Doug Sahm - Doug Sahm & Band. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 7062)
Every American musical style under the sun, Blues, country, rock n roll, Tex-Mex and more! A lost classic by Doug Sahm, produced by Arif Mardin. A stellar supporting group featring Dr. John and Flaco Jimenez, this proves essential for all Dylan fans as he pops up as a backing performer and shares vocals on three tracks. "Wallflower" is a Zimmerman performance exclusive to this album! Surprisingly ignored on it's release in '72, perhaps the US wasn't ready for this twisted Texas vison of roots rock. Featuring: "Dealers Blues", "Faded Love", "Poison Love", and "Papa Ain't Salty." |
|
Dr John - Gris-Gris. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM01312)
Dr. Johns classic debut from 1968. There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who have heard this album and those who haven't. It's so hard to describe because there is simply no other record like it. One part psychedelia one part New Orleans R&B and one part something else (voodoo ritual ?) Very weird and highly entertaining in the right circumstances....Turn out the lights... | ![]() |

Eclection - Eclection. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM233-2)
At long last here is an official reissue of this stunning UK late '60's folk rock band's sole album, originally released on Elektra. Featuring Trevor Lucas (later to marry Sandy Denny and Join Fairport/Fotheringay) the bands recordings are exquisite, orchestrated melodic electric folk rock with multi-part male and female harmonies. Evocative and essential and long overdue on CD. | ![]() |

Eddie Hazel - Game, Dames & Guitar Thang. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 6952)
Named one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time Eddie was the original guitarist for Funkadelic on acid-soaked classics like "Maggot Brain" "I Wanna Know If It's Good To You," and "Standing On The Verge Of Getting It On," Hazel left the band in 1974 amid a flurry of drug use and financial disputes. Hazel then played on sessions for The Temptations, and finally hit prison! When he returned, he reunited with Clinton to begin work on this is a full-tilt, jam-filled showcase for Hazel's far-out virtuosity. He cuts loose on fiery extended versions of The Mamas And The Papas' "California Dreamin'" and The Beatles' "I Want You (She's So Heavy)." Hazel's hard living eventually caught up with him -- he died in 1992 of liver and kidney failure. Featuring Bootsy Collins, Bernie Worrell and the Brides Of Frankenstein, a truly deserved cult classic |

Eden Ahbez - Eden's Island. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM4672)
CD re-issue of the genuinely strange characters of pre-rock American music. He became a hippy twenty years too early moving from his native New York in the 1940s to the hills outside Los Angeles, slept outdoors and lived on vegetables, fruit and nuts.Famous for writing "Nature Boy" which was turned into a hit by Nat King Cole and covered by everyone from Frank Sinatra to Big Star. This weird 1960 album takes you into Eden's utopian world, utilizing flutes, bongos, and vibes with Eden reciting his mystical poetry/singing over the top. Imagine if Frank Sinatra had taken LSD. | ![]() |

Electric Prunes - I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM01482)
At long last, the official reissue of this stone cold classic US '60's garage psych album, direct from the master tapes! Featuring such legendary cuts as the title track, "Sold To the Highest Bidder", and "Get Me To the World On Time" this is a gem from start to finish. Electric Prunes - Just Good Old Rock And Roll. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07312)
This 1969 album (by the "new improved Electric Prunes") was a far more straightforward affair than any of its Prune predecessors, with a funky, hard-rock sound akin to, say, Rhinoceros. Producer Dave Hassinger is minding the controls for Sell; 14 Year Old Funk; Love Grows; So Many People to Tell; Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers; Giant Sunhorse; Violent Rose; Thorjon; Silver Passion Mine; Tracks, and Sing to Me. | ![]() |

Electric Prunes - Mass In F Minor. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM01342)
The Prunes were teamed up with David Axelrod (and the Collectors) for this Psychedelic Mass which is easily the best Christain psych album ever made- and the band weren't even Christians!!. Gothic and Medieval melody lines are soaked in fuzz guitars and Mr. Axelrod provides suitably epic orchestral backing. "I hope this last Trips a good one..." Faust - Faust/So Far. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 179-2)
The first and second album by German band Faust are perhaps their best. Released in 1971 and 1972 respectively they feature some of the weirdest music ever recorded. Mixing every possible musical style from pseudo psych through jazz, folk, rock, and electronic (plus genres that don't yet have a name yet!) these albums are both bewildering and mind blowing at the same time. Gary Farr - Adresses To Censors Of Gary Farr. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 6942)
By the time Farr released this solo album in 1973 (his third) he had already been the leader of the T-Bones, a protégé of Yardbirds manager Giorgio Gomelsky and played the '69 and '70 Isle Of Wight festivals. This time round, he had injected some soul into his moody/wistful singer/songwriter approach. Utterly ignored at the time, it is now a good old fashioned underground collectors item. Features: "Breakfst Bo Ga Loo", "I'm A King Bee", "Mexican Sun" and "Wailing Wall." |

Gene Clark - No Other. CD.
(Collectors Choice - HYCCM03142)
The ex Byrd's most ambitious solo album which was an ethereal mix of Gospel, Country & Psychedelia. From the dreamy floating "Silver Raven" to the funky "No Other" reside along with classics such as the sad, drug-abuse ballad "The True One". This has become a cult classic and at last has found it's way onto CD. One of the most expensive production jobs at the time gives this album a magnificent overall listening experience.Wonderful! | ![]() |

Great Lost Elektra Singles - Various. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 629)
Compilation of rare 'lost' singles from the Elektra stable like the two tracks, "Please Let Me Love You" and "Don't Be Long" by the pre-Byrds band the Beefeaters that featured Roger McGuinn, Gene Clark and David Crosby; Judy Collins' version of "I'll Keep It With Mine", a song that Dylan supposedly wrote for Collins (although Nico begged to differ) and was unreleased at the time, and her non-LP version of Sandy Denny's classic "Who Knows Where the Time Goes"; the electric folk rock version of "I Ain't Marching Anymore" by Phil Ochs; "Come On In", a rare Paul Butterfield Blues Band single from 1966; David Ackles' exceedingly rare French-language version of "The Road to Cairo" entitled "La Route a Chicago"; the B-side "Mark Time" by Eclection, the British folk-rock band that featured future Sandy Denny husband Trevor Lucas and Fairport drummer Gerry Conway, and both sides of the "What Is Quicksand?/Arthur Comics" by the Stalk-Forrest Group, the band that mutated into Blue Oyster Cult. Great Speckled Bird - Great Speckled Bird. CD.

Gulliver - Gulliver. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM3102)
This otherwise obscure Elektra album is notable for it contains the first recorded work of blue-eyed soul singer Daryl Hall, who later achieved fame with the duo Hall & Oates. Also of note is Tim Moore who had been in Woody's Truck Stop with Todd Rundgren. Recorded at Philadelphia's Sigma Studios (1969) under the tutelage of Joe Tarsia, Gulliver contains great rock tunes such as the Hall-sung lead track "Every Day's a Lovely Day" and "Christine," a soulful rock ballad that shows signs of what would become Hall's early signature writing style. This is an excellent late 60's early 70's rock album. | ![]() |

Holy Mackerel - Holy Mackerel. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM5432)
That is quite likely to be your exclamation when you hear how good this record is! The Holy Mackerel was a loosely shifting organization (early Jefferson Airplane bassist Bob Harvey and Buffalo Springfield drummer Dewey Martin were among its members) but at it's heart was Paul Williams song writing - which travelled in pop, country and psychedelic directions with the help of future platinum producer Richard Perry. The 1968 result was a record that should have sold a lot more copies than it did; the band broke up right after its release and Reprise didn't promote it, but be sure to catch it this time around. Includes "The Secret of Pleasure," "Scorpio Red," "Wildflowers," "The Somewhere in Arizona at 4:30 A.M. Restaurant Song (and Now I Am Alone)," "Prinderella," "Bitter Honey," "Nothin Short of Misery," "The Golden Ghost of Love," "The Wild Side of Life," "10,000 Men," and "1984." | ![]() |

Ian & Sylvia - Lovin Sound / Full Circle. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM762)
Interesting two fer which highlight their move from acoustic to electric folk rock and country rock. Boasting contributions by David Rea (Gordon Lightfoot), Nashville legends Kenneth Buttrey, Bill Pursell, Wleodn Myrick and Norman Puttnam. The producer of the two albums (Elliot Mazer) would go on to sit behind the desk of Neil Young's Harvest, it doesn't get much better than that in the late '60's. |

Incredible String Band - 5000 Spirits / Hangmans Beautiful Daughter. Dble CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM2892)
The second and third ISB albums were made by the duo of Mike Heron and Robin Williamson, whose sound comprised haunting Celtic folk melodies augmented by a variety of Middle Eastern and Asian instruments with acid overtones. This excellent double CD has the second album which threw them in with the psychedelic movement, and has become the bench mark for psychedelic folk mixing surreal lyrics with off the wall acoustic instrumentation and melodies. Their next album, The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter, is usually considered their most adventurous, although some listeners may find this to be the more accessible effort. It also featured what is probably Williamson's best-known song, "First Girl I Loved" (also familiar via Judy Collins' cover version, "First Boy I Loved"). | ![]() |

Incredible String Band - Changing Horses/I Looked Up. Dble CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM2912)
1969 and 1970 albums by the by now four piece ISB. Regarded as one of the Incredible String Band's lesser efforts, Changing Horses does have an appealing looseness. With two tracks topping the 15-minute mark in length, some of the record comes off like a drifting drunken living room jam session and is quite unique. I Looked Up has excellent lengthy tracks (two of the six tracks run for about six minutes, with Robin Williamson's "When You Find Out Who You Are" and "Pictures in a Mirror" each lasting for 11 minutes) and the album edges closer to more conventional rock; Mike Heron's "The Letter" almost approaches country-rock, with drums by Dave Mattacks of Fairport Convention. | ![]() |

Incredible String Band - Wee Tam And The Big Huge 2 CD Set. Dble CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM2902)
The classic 1968 double album (split in the USA into two albums) is a treasure trove of UK acid folk hippie strangeness including the bizarre "Air" "The Iron Stone" and the achingly beautiful lament of "The Circle Is Unbroken". Features founding members Robin Williamson (organ, bass, flute, guitar, percussion, piano, violin, drums, harpsichord, kazoo, whistle, sarangui, gimbri, and Irish harp) and Mike Heron (organ, bass, guitar, harmonica, harpsichord, sitar, and washboard) as well as their significant others, Christina "Liquorice" McKechnie (vocals, percussion, and Irish harp) and Rose Simpson (violin, bass, and vocals). A masterpiece. | ![]() |

Insect Trust - Hoboken Saturday Night. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM5022)
Highly recommended reissue of this great, under-rated bands second and final album originally released in 1970. A bubbling stew which features blues, jazz, old time music, folk rock and even bubblegum pop. Features the ethno musicologist Robert Palmer (writer/critic/all-round genius) and singer Nancy Jeffrie as core members and a breath-taking list of contributors including Elvin Jones, Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, guitarist Hugh McCracken and novelist Thomas Pynchon. Surreal and wonderful "pop" that refuses to be classifaiable. A landmark achievement in stretching the boundaries of popular music. | ![]() |

Jack Nitzsche - Chopin '66. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 6902)
Nitzsche's attempt at bringing extracts from Chopin to a modern audience is a surprising success, contemporary arrangements and the sound of the pianist being able to flex his orchestral muscles for the first time. Originally intended as a way of getting a younger audience to listen to classical music, this now serves as a fascinating '60's collectors item. Clearly a labour of love. Features: "Fantasie Impromptu", "Revolutinary Etude", "OP. 28 (Raindrop) and "Funeral Procession." | ![]() |

Jack Nitzsche - Dance To The Beatles. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 6882)
One of the millions of cash in albums made after the initial surge of The Beatles in '64, though this may surprise a few. Full of little production touches, expert musicianship throughout and even the occaisional original based on Beatle songwriting techniques! "Beatle-Mania in particular is fascinating, Nitzsche cribbing varous riffs from early Beatle tracks to create something new. Look out for original composition "Ringo", with a Lennon-esque Harmonica riffIncludes some instrumentals of Beatles covers like "Chains" and "Twist And Shout", as well as "Please, Please Me", "She Loves You" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand." First time on CD, a must for alternative Beatle fans.Due In: 17/07/2006 | ![]() |

Jack Nitzsche - St. Giles Cripplegate. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 6892)
Nitzsche had already dabbled in classical work with his Chopin '66 album, working around his arranging duties for Neil Young. This album of original compositions from '72. Utilising the services of the London Symphony Orchestra and the LSO, in total featuring over 100 musicians. Recorded in St. Giles Cripplegate Church (for it's six second natural echo delay.) Unsurprisingly, the record label didn't have a clue what to do with this abitious masterpiece of modern classical music, and it died on it's arse. A labour of love that will hopefully be rediscovered now. Includes: #1, #2, #3, and #4 (for mori) | ![]() |

Jimmy Webb - And So On. CD.

Author of such classics as"MacArthur Park" ,By The Time I Get To Phoenix", and "Wichita Lineman", Jimmy Webb is one of the only figures in Rock Music who has gained more fame (and many gold and platinum records) from his songwriting than his music. Only available before as part of box set, Jimmy's second solo album from 1971stripped down the sound and offered another brace of tremendous tunes (subsequently covered by a multitude of stars.) Jimmy Webb - Letters. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM06602)
Author of such classics as"MacArthur Park" ,By The Time I Get To Phoenix", and "Wichita Lineman", Jimmy Webb is one of the only figures in Rock Music who has gained more fame (and many gold and platinum records) from his songwriting than his music. Regarded by many critics as Jimmy's most satisfying solo album. 1972's letters finds Webb working in a number of styles, but none quite so davastating as his simple, acoustic rendition of the hit he penned for Glen Campbell, "Galveston." Also includes "Piano", a study of the solitude that seems to inevitably come from being creative and the highly emotional "Hurt Me Well." Essential for anyone interested in the man behind most of the great '70's standards. |

Jimmy Webb - Suspending Disbelief. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM06632)
Webb's comeback album from 1993. Co-produced by linda Ronstadt, the album includes a love song to his sports car and memories of meeting Elvis; it's another personal, endearing work from one of the greatest songwriters. One of his most consistant albums, ful of regret over lost love and poignant reflections upon his life. |

Jimmy Webb - Words And Music. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM06582)
Very few people combine words and music as well as Jimy Webb, as this, his 1970 debut solo album demonstrates with such tunes as his homage to fellow songwriter P.F. Sloan and Love Song. This album was also every bit as ambitious as his ornately orchestrated wor kwith Richard Harris, with the melody of "Let It Be Me"/"Never My Love"/"I Wanna Be Free" a particularly audacious effort. |

Jo Jo Gunne - Bite Down Hard. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM3572)
1973 release Bite Down Hard is more aggressive hard psyche tinged rock from Jay Ferguson's band. The songs dominating the groups second album were high charged, uptempo, front-loaded.By this time the band were an in-demand live act touring with Grand Funk & Humble Pie across America. The opening cut "Ready Freddy" is a sonically powerful studio rock n roll track and Bill Szymczyk got an undeniably live flavor throughout this album. | ![]() |

Formed from the ashes of Spirit, in Los Angeles in 1971 Jo Jo Gunne was formed to be more of rock & roll band and they sure did on "Run Run Run" the hit single, but on tracks like "Babylon" & "99 Days" they hark back to "12 Dreams" period Spirit. Jay Ferguson throws much weirdness into the album giving it a brilliant mix of styles. | ![]() |

Jo Jo Gunne - So...Where's The Show?. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM04582)
The 1974 (and final) release resulted in a tighter, more focused, and better band than before. All use of the synthesizers were dumped in favor of a piano sound, which is in great evidence on tracks like "I'm Your Shoe" which after an incredible instrumental break features a piano solo! The shock is a great effect and brings to mind the madness of the great Spirit albums. Most of the tracks here have a decent hook all the way through from the title track to the excellent "Around the World", infact there isn't a single duff track here. | ![]() |

John Sebastian - Cheapo Cheapo Productions Presents Real Live. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07242)
1971 live recording, released as in retaliation against the dodgy versions MGM released of his debut album and a live concert. Their poor quality probably explains the title o fthis concert recoring. It contains a number of Spoonful tracks, covers and a handful of his own recent solo songs. Vastly superior to its MGM counterpart, this is a defining performance by the former Lovin Spoonful. Seventeen tracks, including: "Younger Generation", "Blue Suede Shoes", "Lovin' You" and "Goodnight Irene." |

John Sebastian - John. B. Sebastian. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07202)
Solo debut form the former leader of the leader of Lovin' Spoonful. Deliberately low key in it's production values compared to his former band, Sebastian expands his taste in musical styles; incorporating samba and R&B into his predominantly Folk set. Guest musicians include Crosby, Stills, Nash and CSN drummer Dallas Taylor. Includes "How Have You Been", "You're A Big Boy Now", "The Room Nobody Lives In" and "I Had A Dream", the song that opens the Woodstock soundtrack album. |
|
John Sebastian - Tarzana Kid. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07222)
1974 album, jam packed with guest stars such as Emmylou Harris, Phil Everly, Ry Cooder, Pointer Sisters, Lowell George and David Grisman. Includes one of the earliest examples of an American artist covering a Reggae song: Jimmy Cliff's "Sitting In Limbo"; again this shows off John's constant exploration of genres. Surprisingly John pulls this off with aplomb! |
|
John Sebastian - The Four Of Us. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07232)
1971 highly ambitious release from the former Lovvin Spoonful member. Virtually an autobiographical concept album, the theme is how he and his wife Catherine got together and a road trip they took with another couple (hence the title). Featuring Dr. John, Felix Papalardi and the Esso Trinidad Steel Band, the albums jewel is the sixteen minute eponymous track that took up the whole of side two on the vinyl release! Master storytelling. |

John Sebastian - Welcome Back. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07212)
1976 album featuring the theme tune to the popular US TV programme "Welcome Back, Kotter" (starring a young John Travolta). This is the sound of John being filtered through the pop sensibilities of producer Steve Barri and features some fine folk blues, instrumentals and his keen ear for a simple melody. Recorded as a way to end his Reprise contract and to tie in with the theme tune becoming a hit single (his first in seven years), this is an unappreciated gem of an album. |

Jonathan Edwards - Have A Good Time For Me. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM05262)
Jonathan Edwards was a founding member of Sugar Creek who made one great Moby Grape like album "Please Tell a Friend" in 1969. Here is his second of two solo albums from the early '70's. Originally released in 1973 it features Jonathan the singer and interpreter rather than the songwriter. He covers the work of Jimmie Rodgers, Joe Dolce, Malcolm McKinney and Eric Lilljequist with a band to dream of: Al Anderson, David Bromberg, Bill Keith and Bill Elliot amongst others! The most country album Jonathan had released to date and paradoxically (for an album of covers) his most personal as well. | ![]() |

Liberace - Brand New Me. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM788)
Liberace goes psychedelic! This flower power album came out in 1969 and in all honesty is really a bunch of well chosen covers from the mid to late '60's that was a healthy attempt to bring the pianist up to date. The choices are very fine (McArthur Park, Here, There and Everywhere, Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head) and as ever Liberace is at his theatrical best, full of pomp and splender. A true oddity in pop music, nice cover too. | ![]() |

Mad River - Mad River (Original Speed)/ Paradise Bar & Grill. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 172-2)
Both albums by this legendary San Francisco band on one disc. The debut is a 1968 stoned US classic that sounds somewhat like H P Lovecraft meets Quicksilver MS on speed (indeed a recording error led to the demented speed freak pace). It features "Amphetamine Gazelle", "Wind Chimes" and the stunning 12 minute "War Goes On". The second Mad River album from 1969 contains shorter country influenced tracks as well as a couple of acid-dripping epics in keeping with their earlier debut. Jerry Corbitt of Sugarloaf produces and plays guitar. | ![]() |

Mark Spoelstra - 5/ 20 Questions. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM6762)
Mark Spoelestra was the very model of a 60s protest singer. Not only do these two Elektra albums include a number of topical tunes, as Spoelestra joined his mid-60s peers in penning original material, but he also walked the walk, electing to perform alternative service in a poor, black, rural community in Central California rather than join the military (and hence was unable to promote his first album for the label) Mark has graciously contributed generous quotes (You mean he's still alive!!?- Shocked Ed)to these exclusive reissues: they form a long-overdue look at one of the truly inspirational figures of the protest movement. This was his 1965 debut. |

Mitchell Trio - Alive. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM5472)
This release found John Denver replacing Chad Mitchell, on this CD reissue this rare 1967 album on Reprise, which shows Denver really moving to the fore as the groups leader. In fact, this album presents the premiere recording of Denvers "Leaving on a Jet Plane," a declaration of independence from the groups former artistic direction if there ever was one. Still, there is plenty here to please the dyed-in-the-wool folk fan, too; includes, along with Denvers "Like to Deal with the Ladies," Tom Paxtons "Cindys Cryin," "What This Country Really Needs Is Another Movie Star," "Coal Tattoo," "Adams Rib," "Alabama Mother," "She Loves You," "Flaming Youth," and "A God Is Dead/He Was a Friend of Mine." | ![]() |

The Modern Folk Quartet made mid-60's commercial folk not far removed from the Kingston Trio - a style later lampooned by the film "A Mighty Wind". The emphasis is on group harmonies and the band included Jerry Yester (who worked as a producer and with The Lovin' Spoonful and made a great album with Judy Henske) and Cyrus Faryar (who famously provided astrological narration for the The Zodiac's mindbending Cosmic Sounds album). This reissue of their second Warner Brother's album from 1964 includes the band's covers of Bob Dylan's "Farewell" and Phil Ochs ""The Bells" whilst maintaining their mastery of original and traditional tunes. | ![]() |

New York Rock & Roll Ensemble - Faithfull Friends. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 7182)
Juilliard-trained musicians Dorian Rudnytsky, Marty Fulterman and noted soundtrack composer-to-be Michael Kamen turned musical convention on its head by playing rock songs on classical instruments and vice versa on their three albums for Atco, and wound up attracting the attention of such august personages as Leonard Bernstein in the process! The critical buzz didnt result in much sales. This 1969 release covered both Jimi Hendrix (Wait until Tomorrow) and J.S. Bach (Trio Sonata No. 2 in G Major), which pretty much says it all about this band! Also includes Nel Cox; Thinking of Mary; Faithful Friends; Aria; Lazy Man; Brandenburg; Im Too Busy; City; Asking Too Much; Kite Song, and Sing Lady Sing. |

The 3rd album from 1970 by this US band was a unique collaboration with Greek composer Manos Hadjidakis and is thought by many to be their best release. With an unparalleled mix of classical, Greek melodies and '60's styled rock it is both majestically beautiful and relaxing. In places it evokes HP Lovecraft and The West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band. One of the band members, Michael Kamen, later had an enormously successful career producing film scores and working with Pink Floyd amongst others! | ![]() |

New York Rock Ensemble - Roll Over/Freedom Burger. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CD WSCCM00602)
Great 2 on 1 package of two later albums by this band who mixed classical and psych rock together without being pompous or overblown. Similar to Ars Nova who also attempted a rock/classical fusion and gave the world the song "Fields Of People" (covered by The Move and Marble Phrogg) | ![]() |

Oregan - Out Of The Woods / Roots In The Sky. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07152)
Eighteen track CD, bringing together their only two major label releases. One of the earliest and finest exponents of world jazz, Oregon began in 1970 formed around guitarist Ralph Trower. These two albums (both released in 1978) show off the groups often overlooked abilities to write a damn good tune; this was often overlooked by their extraordinary improvisational skills. Often viewed as the groups best work. |
|
P F Sloan - Measure For Pleasure. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07462)
An important figure in the development of West Coast pop, this is the Tom Dowd produced album from 1968. Dowd's influence is strong here with elements of blues and a funkier rhythm coming through on these tracks. Sloan's voice really comes to the fore here and he is fine voice throughout. A notably different record to his first two efforts, this is well worth picking up. |

Paul Clayton - Sings Unholy Matrimony. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM6822)
Paul Clayton was a fixture on the Greenwich Village folk scene who died way too young, in his mid-30s in 1967. Nowadays he is mostly remembered for being mates with Dylan (surprise surprise) and allegedly gave young Mr Zimmerman the melody for 'Don't Think Twice' and 'It's All Right'- even maybe being the inspiration for the lyric to 'It's All Over Now Baby Blue'. However, one must not cast him in Dylan's shadow: he was an important folk artist in his own right, especially as one of the sources for the traditional folk material that so many singers of the time mined for inspiration. He also had a sense of humour, as this late 50s Elektra album will demonstrate with its 18 irreverent observations of the institution of marriage, compiled, as the original liner notes read, 'to amuse and appall you'. And amuse you they definitely will: 'Stay Away From The Girls' 'The Wooden Legged Parson' 'Mother In Law Song' 'I Wish I Was Single Again' 'The Husband With No Courage In Him' 'The Wife Who Wanted Spruncin' (whatever THAT is) 'A Quick Way To Be Rid Of A Wife' etc. Do not play in the company of leftie feminist types!! |
|
Paul Williams - Someday Man. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM5442)
The most famous thing about this 1969 album is its title track, which was covered by the Monkees, but if you're into late-60s orchestrated pop a la "Pet Sounds" or "Forever Changes," you have to check this out! First of all, this marked the first major collaboration between Paul Williams (Holy Mackerel) and Roger Nichols, who were to team on a bundle of early-70s hits for the Carpenters and Three Dog Night among others; then there are the musicians, who included such giants as Hal Blaine and Larry Knechtel among their ranks. But its the songs that really make this album a marvel, seamlessly mixing the topical, personal and spiritual, they belie Williams tender age of 29. Includes "Someday Man," "So Many People," "Shes Too Good to Me," "Mornin Ill Be Movin On," "Time," "Trust," "To Put Up with You," "Do You Really Have a Heart," "I Know You," and "Roan Pony." | ![]() |

Peppermint Rainbow - Will You Be Staying After Sunday. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM0611)
Heres a real pot of gold for 60s sunshine pop seekers: the lone album from Baltimore band The Peppermint Rainbow! Produced by Paul Leka of Lemon Pipers, Steam and American Breed fame, 'Will You Still Be Staying after Sunday' sports expert, folk-pop production touches supporting the unison vocals of sisters Pat and Bonnie Lamdin, who end up sounding an awful lot like Spanky McFarlane of Spanky & Our Gang. The combination clicked for the 1969 hit title track, but the rest of the album has a number of songs that could have been singles, too...that soaring, late-60s sound at its best! Includes 'Will You Be Staying After Sunday?' 'Pink Lemonade' 'And I'll Be There' 'Run Like the Devil' 'Jamais' 'Dont Wake Me Up In The Morning' 'Walking in Different Circles' 'Terra (Chasin' My Dream)' 'Green Tambourine' 'Rosemary', and 'I Found Out I Was A Woman'. | ![]() |

Phil Ochs - All The News That's Fit To Sing. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM06152)
The debut release of this sadly overlooked American protest singer was all that and more, sporting songs drawn from the tumultuous events of the day but also an adaptation of an Edgar Allan Poe poem (The Bells) and a tribute to Woody Guthrie (Bound For Glory) An excellent album from a major songwriting talent tragically, like so many others of the time, engulfed in the furore surrounding the admittedly excellent but somewhat overexposed Dylan. Key tracks: 'The Thresher' 'Automation Song' 'Talking Cuban Crisis' and 'Too Many Martyrs'. | ![]() |

Phil Ochs - I Ain't Marching Anymore. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCMO6162)
The definitive Phil Ochs album, on which his sharp pen cut a swathe through the machinations and moires of American society leaving no stone unturned, no capitalist unsullied. Topics range from militarism to civil rights, labour struggles and Vietnam. The title track is Ochs' stone classic, but of equal merit are 'Draft Dodger Rag' 'That Was The President' 'The Highwayman' 'Hills Of West Virginia' 'Men Behind The Guns' and 'Days Of Decision'. Dated? Er, only if there was world peace. . . | ![]() |

At last Phil's debut powerpop album from 1981 is re-issued on CD. Phil first made his mark in the Dwight Twilley Band and as a session man most notably on Tom Petty's 'American Girl'.Contains the power pop monster "Precious To Me" alongside 3 album outakes. Fully detailed liner notes. For people with nice feathery hair and stripey t-shirts (see photo). | ![]() |

Quicksilver Messenger Service - Unreleased - Lost Gold & Silver. Dble CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM1092)
A real treat for West Coast '60s collectors, this double disc set contains a complete live show from 1968 (released on Psycho as "Maiden Of The Cancer Moon") as well as a host of previously unreleased studio demos and alternate takes, and rare singles. This was pre Dino Valente, so there is plenty of stunning jamming featuring the twin lead guitars of John Cippolina and Gary Duncan. | ![]() |

Rascals - Once Upon A Dream. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM803)
The Rascals' Sgt. Pepper' was released in 1968 and features a suitably psychedelic sleeve design. Incorporating elements of the previous albums and adding sitar and assorted effects it’s a soulful voyage into acid pop and very high concept production touches. | ![]() |

Rhinoceros - Rhinoceros. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM2842)
One of the more interesting US albums of 1968 finally on CD.This group was the brain child of producer Paul Rothchild (Doors,Love), who wanted to put together a supergroup! This album contains members of Iron Butterfly, Daily Flash, Buffalo Springfield and ace session drummer Billy Mundi. A cult classic! | ![]() |

Rhinoceros - Satin Chickens/Better Times. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM03862)
The second and brilliant third album from 1969 & 70 by this US supergroup. For the "Satin Chickens" album the band kept the core line-up from the first album displaying a thoroughly road tested sound. On the 3rd album the band went in an early Funkadelic direction best displayed by the awesome psych/ funk/rock power of "Old Age", the groovy "Let's Party" and anti-Vietnam acid rock epic "Rain Child". A bit of an undiscovered classic. | ![]() |

Ronee Blakley - Ronee Blakley. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM6692)
Those wondering how Ronne Blakley landed the role of doomed country singer Barbara Jean in Robert Altman's 1975 film 'Nashville' would do well to check out this debut album recorded in 1972 for Elektra; it elicited praise from as high an auhtority as Bob Dylan (but then again, he was allegedly schtupping her at the time). Includes 'Dues' 'Sleepin Sickness Blues' 'Attachment' 'Down To The River' 'Cock O' The Walk' and so forth. |
|
Ronee Blakley - Welcome. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM6702)
1975 album for Warner Bros, and Ronee's last before she devoted herself entirely to acting. Like its predecessor, it portrays a singer-songwriter of uncommon depth and ambition, but with a little more of that Nashville twang. Includes 'Idaho Home' and 'Tapedeck' (both of which appeard in the film 'Nashville') plus 'American Beauty' 'I Was Born To Love You' 'Young Man' 'Locked Behind My True Love's Door' and many more undiscovered classics. Recorded at Muscle Shoals by the legendary Jerry Wexler. |

Rose Garden - Rose Garden. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM3592)
Originally released in 1968 this is a beautiful US psych pop-folk-rock record, able in its emulation of the Byrds' 12-string guitar sound with the addition of some competent stirring male-female vocal blends. The Byrds connection went further as it contains two Gene Clark songs that never appeared anywhere else. Even Kim Fowley crops up on a songwriting credit on the brilliant "Flower Town" Great! | ![]() |

1971 album from this US outfit that featured Judy Henske and Jerry Yester who wrote six of the ten songs on this their sole album. The album is an eclectic venture that veers between psychedelic-tinged tracks laced with lush orchestration, floating towards art-pop on "Flying to Morning".An interesting blend. | ![]() |

Rowans - Rowans. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 2652)
Great second album from 1975 by the Rowan Brothers featuring Peter Rowan - ex leader of Seatrain and Earth Opera -and his brothers Chris and Lorin. It's a classy mixture of rural rock and pop with Peter Rowan's distinctive vocal style to the fore. The epic eight and a half minute "Thunder On The Mountain" mixes Tibetan music and country rock whilst "Midnight Moonlight" still stands up as an all time classic. A great album. | ![]() |

Roxy - Roxy. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM0624)
A little more rootsy than the Wackers, but still tilting in the power pop direction, Roxy grew out of the Northern California band the Family Tree, who cut one record for RCA before disbanding. This 1969 album got some nice press in places like 'Rolling Stone', but didnt sell; still, Elektra was impressed enough to sign Segarini and Bishops next band, the Wackers. Includes 'Love Love Love' 'Sing a Song' 'New York City' 'Somebody Told You' 'Love for a Long Time' 'Windy Day' 'You Got a Lot of Style' 'I Got My Friends' 'Yesterdays Song', and 'Rock & Roll Circus'. |

San Sebastian Strings - Home To The Sea. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 5692)
This album, the fourth San Sebastian Strings release and the second of 'The Sea' trilogy, was the highest-charting of them all, reaching #20 in early 1969. That's actor Jesse Pearson narrating, by the way, not Rod McKuen; Jesse was actually the principal narrator of the series along with Anita Kerr Singers member Gene Merlino. Includes 'Passage Home; There Are No Beaches in Magic City, Texas; Dragonflies; Sailing Through the Sun; Another Evening with the Gypsies; Night Watch; Bathtub Surfing; Part of Every Ocean; Moonlight Swim; November Resolution; Floating Past the Fields; Running Out of Strangers; One in the Same', and 'Home to the Sea'. | ![]() |

Sergio Mendes & Brasil '77 - Homecooking. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM789)
Mendes' first album with new band was released in 1977. It was a noticeable change in direction away from his usual blend of Brazillian infused pop to amore funky soul style. Long term fans feel that Sergio had been through some extremely lean years career-wise by the time this album came out; it stands out as a real triumph. Featuring songs by Gilberto Gil, Joao Donato, Elton John and Edgar Winter, it perfectly highlights the mans diverse musical tastes. | ![]() |

Sergio Mendes & The New Brasil '77 - Sergio Mendes & The New Brasil '77. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM790)
As the title suggests, this is the new line up of Sergio's backing band Brasil and the sound has developed in the changing music climate of the late '70's. The slick R&B / pop productions might have been a shock fro many fans og Mendes' '60's output but the Latin heat is still firmly there. This album features two covers of Stevie Wonder songs and an appearance by his band Wonderlove. |

Sneakers - Nonsequitur Of Silence. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07332)
One of those bands that made little impact when they released their debut EP in the mid '70's but whose influence spreads to the present day and seems to effect most bands with a guitar in their hands (whether they realise it or not). REM for one site them as a huge influence for their lo-fi indie guitar pop sound (Mitch Easter even produced their first two albums.) This remastered compilation, overseen by members Chris Stamey and Mitch Easter brings together the best tracks from their Don Dixon produced EP, their 1978 LP In The Red and their 1992 reunion album Racket; as a bonus there is also three unreleased tracks. At trully excellent example of '70's guitar pop. |

Sonny Bono - Inner-views. CD.

CD re-issue of this great acid crazed 1967 album which includes the 12 minute freakout "I Just Sit There" and other weird tracks like "Pammie's on A Bummer" and "My Best Friend's Girl is Outta Sight". Sitars drone and guitars groan over Sonny's nasal vocals. The whole album is a glorious mess like Phil Spector on a bad trip!Great acid artwork adorns the sleeve. | ![]() |

Psychy Prog rock meets Byrds-like 12 string on this early 70s U.S. cult classic.(the band formed after the break up of Whistler, Chaucer, Detroit And Greenhill) An inspired blend of Zappa, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan and the Byrds. Ssgt.Barry Sadler - Ballads Of The Green Berets. CD.
(Collectors Choice - WSCCM00372)
Unbelievable ‘60’s right wing, pro-war album by this 'hip' Vietnam Vet. He sang like some '50's crooner about various aspects of warfare and songs such as "Saigon" and "Letter from Vietnam" are made more bearable and even comical by the fact that Barry's upbeat sub Elvis '60's pop crooning is offset by the ludicrous lyrics. Songs about courage, medals, missing home, sweethearts, family, fighting and physical bravery are sung with a totally blind, self interested macho conviction leaving no room for any reference to the horrors inflicted by War. Clichéd and morally naive to the point of unintentional hilarity this musical warrior had a huge hit with the pro-war, nationalistic anthem "Ballad of the Green Berets" and later with "The A Team". He also wrote a series of pulp novels about an immortal soldier. A fascinating, unintentionally funny and slightly sick, piece of musical history. | ![]() |

Coming out of the same late 60's Orange County singer-songwriter scene that spawned Tim Buckley and Jackson Browne (Who writes or co wrote five songs here), Steve recorded this album for Elektra in 1968,and it remains a lost minor classic of the genre, boasting a brace of good songs augmented with arty touches that are definitely reminiscent of Buckley. | ![]() |

Three O'clock - Arrive Without Travelling/Ever After. CD.

Mixing late 70's punk attitude with 60's psychedelic vibes, the 'Paisley Underground' movement of the early 80's bought us classic bands like the Rain Parade, Dream Syndicate, Green on Red and the 3 O'Clock. Town Criers - Live In San Fransisco. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07472)
A live concert taped especially for airplay on mid '60's San Fransisco college radio, this is the group Marty Balin sang in before Jefferson Airplane. Formed in the summer of '63, the group played the club circuit for a year before breaking. Balin subsequently opened his club The Matrix (the rest is history.) A fascinating curio of one of folks main players. The full story of the group is recountered by former bandmate Bill Collins (with archive photos from his own collection.) |

Wackers - Shredder. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM 6212)
'Shredder' began as a side project for head Wackers Bob Segarini (Family Tree) and Randy Bishop, but morphed into a full-fledged Wackers album and, ironically, probably the one that best captured their freewheeling live spirit. It also scored their sole hit, 'Day and Night', which leads off the record, followed by 'Hey Lawdy Lawdy; Ill Believe in You; Put Myself to Sleep; Eventually, Even You Even Me; Coming Apart; Its My LIfe; Beach Song; Buck Duckdog Memorial Jam (Our Ships Comin in, My Old Lady, You Really Got Me)', and 'Last Dance'. Produced by Gary Usher of Byrds fame, the Wackers 1971 debut was out of step with the heavy (Led Zep) and heavily produced fare in fashion at the time, full of jangly guitars, three-part harmonies and rock n roll attitude.(featured Bob Segarini of Family Tree). The predictable result: mediocre sales but great critical acclaim! And, boy, does this record sound good now; includes Travelin Time; Body Go Round; Country Queen; Strangers; Dont Put down the Singer; I Dont Want My Love Refused; White House; I Like; On the Way Up; Such a Good Thing; No Place for the Children', and a cover of Elvis' 'Dont Be Cruel'. | ![]() |

What's Shakin' - Various. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM0622)
CD re-issue of this legendary 1966 rarities compilation, and it boasted a couple of big-name artists, the Lovin Spoonful and Eric Clapton, who were not known for their association with the label. The Lovin Spoonful tracks stem from the bands almost having signed with the label; Jac Holzman states in the notes that it was John Sebastian's way of making amends, and these four tracks-'Good Time Music' 'Almost Grown' 'Don't Bank on It Baby', and 'Searchin'-were never recorded by the band, not even in different versions. The Clapton tracks, meanwhile, feature him with Powerhouse, a supergroup composed of Jack Bruce, Stevie Winwood and Manfred Mann lead singer Paul Jones; produced by Joe Boyd, the tracks are 'I Want to Know; Crossroads', and 'Steppin Out'. Five Paul Butterfield Blues Band tracks appear here from their ill-fated debut recording session for Elektra: 'Lovin Cup; Good Morning Little Schoolgirl; Spoonful', and two that appear nowhere else, 'Off the Wall' and 'One More Mile'. Tom Rush's 'I'm in Love Again' is an outtake from his 1966 LP 'Take a Little Walk with Me', and Al Kooper's 'I Cant Keep from Crying Sometimes' is something of a rehearsal for the later, fuller Blues Project version. | ![]() |

Wild Man Fischer - Nothing Scary. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07172)
Effectively a collection of tracks Fischer and production duo Barnes and Barnes recorded between 1980 and '83, this thirty four track follow up to Pronounced Normal is a worthy sequel. Having realised his true hatred of studio based recordings, the Wild Man delivers most of his vocal performances via telephone, in a local park and in a tunnel. His fantastic improvised vocal tracks (he started out as a street performer and felt more comfortable there) were then created into the masterpiece that it is by Barnes and Barnes. Fischer's cheerfully tragic / bizarre lyrics and vocal style (He shout. A lot.) are a joy. |
|
Wild Man Fischer - Pronounced Normal. CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM07162)
Twenty two track album from the Wild Man, released in 1981. Originally discovered, signed and produced by Frank Zappa in the late '60's, he released only sporadically until he hooked up with Barnes and Barnes (Robert Haimer and Bill Mumy of Lost In Space fame) who coaxed hi back into the studio. A genuinely entertaining and funny record, Barnes and Barnes add a menacing layer of synth lines to Fischer's childlike, usually a cappella tunes. A wonderfully honest singer, his songs range from the very personal (his deteriorated relationship with Frank Zappa, his spell in an institution as a teenager) and the simply hilarious / outrageous. Recommended barminess. |

Reissue of the (infamous) 1977 record by the paranoid schizophrenic and acid casualty that features acapella ravings. This disturbed street singer discovered by Frank Zappa is incapable of carrying a tune and by the time of this release it was championed by the punks.Worthy re-issue that sits alongside the likes of the Shaggs, Tom Waits on acid etc, in fact makes Daniel Johnston seem like Lloyd Webber! | ![]() |
