Acid Mothers Temple - Wild Girls A Go-Go. Dble LP. (Eclipse Records - ECLIPSE 0) At long last a well-deserved and well overdue vinyl re-issue of one of the greatest albums created by the psychedelic freaks of Japan's AMT. Originally released on CD in ridiculously low numbers we finally have a deluxe double 180g vinyl version housed in a heavy duty, risque (but of course), gatefold sleeve. Those lucky enough to grap a copy back in the day will need no convincing to snap this up, for those in the dark read on.. Conceived as the soundtrack to a Russian psychedelic exploitation film, this album marks the moment when the AMT crew started to really push outwards into unmapped regions of space. The sound is not as frequently wild or heavy as it has been on some of their other lp's but any suggestion of disappointment will be crushed when you hear the mesmerising mixture of cyclical riffing and a persistant high pitch drone that introduces the listener to the album. Out of an enormous catalogue this album really does command attention for all fans of progressive pyschedelic music. Behold the true beauty of Acid Mothers Temple!! Lysergic madness with tripped-out guitar play a very stoned groove and walls of intense acid mayhem. Draws on European '70's acid and space rock but adds that weird over the top Japanese edge. Anaksimandros - The River Of Finland. LP. (Eclipse Records - ECL38) Improvised psychedelic folk from Finland that comes highly recommended. Strummed and plucked strings, clattery percussion, chanting vocals, bowed instruments a lot more. 500 copies only, they come with printed jackets featuring great black and white artwork.

Fursaxa - Mandrake. LP. Originally released on the ACID MOTHERS TEMPLE label as a CDR in 2000, and limited to 100 copies the material on this album was recorded between 1997 and 1999 by Tara Burke who plays guitars, organ, dulcimer, accordion and vocals. Now remixed and produced by KAWABATA MAKOTO 'Mandrake' gets a proper limited reissue on vinyl in a beautifull full-color sleeve with a 2 sided color insert.

Jack Rose - Raag Manifestos. LP. (Eclipse Records - ECLIPSE 39) One of the fathers of the new 2000 folk movement Jack Rose has been pushing the boundaries of his Fahey inspired finger-picking style through albums with his group Pelt and some simply jaw dropping solo pieces. This is the vinyl edition of his now out of print VHF release and again it's a stunning mesh of Appalachian guitar work extended into intricately woven drones and ragas. The ethereal sounds of his steel strings can lift the listener one moment then buzz with fierce aggression the next. Hypnotic and beautiful, this album showcases Rose at his very best, and that's very very very good!

JSD Band - JSD Band. CD. (Eclipse Records - ECCD1) Second album from this traditional Scottish Folk band, originally issued in '72. Featuring the dextrous fiddle playing of Chuck Fleming they specialised in a captivating blend of traditional jigs and pop. With four bonus tracks... Fans of Fairport etc will love this!!

Marissa Nadler - Ballads Of Living And Dying. LP. (Eclipse Records - ECL 47) Marissa's songs are mostly mournful dirges and melancholic ballads. Delving into influences of old-timey americana folk, portuguese fado, psychedelia, and country. Pursuing the persona poem, most of the songs are stories of tragic deaths, forbidden fates, and jilted love affairs, and stormy suicides. Marissa's intiricate fingerstyle guitar comes through on six string, twelve string, banjo, ukelele, and autopharp. Her voice is velvety and resonant and beautifully accompanies her playing. I first heard the voice of Marissa Nadler performing on the second Tom Rapp tribute collection and her Ballads of Living and Dying is simply a knockout in the current folk revival, not to mention a stunning collection of original music and lyrics. Haunting, somber song-based folk bliss for fans of later Current 93, Leonard Cohen and Pearls Before Swine. Released in an edition of 500 copies.

Migrantes - Monsoon Moons. LP. (Eclipse Records - ECLIPSE 27) Second album from these folk-drone troubadors who come with Tom Carter of Charalambides solid seal of approval. Pressed in an edition of 536 copies and housed in a lovely printed full color jacket this is a stunning record which camouflages the simplicity of its ingredients with songs of glowing precision and vox laced hammond drones of vertical majesty. Another fine addition to the catalogue of the ever astounding Eclipse label.

Paivansade - Puhalluspelto. LP. (Eclipse Records - ECL 34) The debut vinyl release from Finnish avant folk group. A stunning blend of familiar and unfamiliar sounds performed with plucked and scraped strings, hand percussion, drums, woodwinds, vocals (sometime wailing), and more. If you dig the Anaksimandros, Kemialliset Ystavat, Avarus, Pylon, etc., you'll want to hear this. Another proud moment from Eclipse, and one of the label's best. Edition of 500 copies with beautiful full-color printed sleeves.

Plastic Crimewave Sound - Flashing Open. LP. (Eclipse Records - 22) A treasure chest of psychedelic delights. Recorded in 2003 on this album Chicago's Plastic Crimewave Sound produce a unique brand of psychedelic acid punk that sizzles with frenzied guitar, drum, bass and Korg playing. Amp blowing, mind shattering acid rock with even a few biker riffs and the odd dreamy space out. Excessive, conceptual awesome, wrap your head around devotional drones, snarling biker punk, new wave melodies, blasting power electronics and astral folk. Think you can handle it? Limited to 542 copies only.

Spring - Spring (Eclipse). LP. (Eclipse Records - ECLP 1) Recorded in 1971 this solid gold gem of early UK progressive rock which is up there with Fantasy and T2. Awash with mellotrons, dreamy mystical vocals and high quality songs this version is on 180 gram vinyl in a gatefold sleeve (sadly not in the original triple fold sleeve).

Sun City Girls - Bleach Has Feelings Too. Dble LP. (Eclipse Records - ECLIPSE34) Retrospective album on USA 80's 'Sun City Girls'. Actually an all-male trio that took sampling and avant-garde experimentation to new creative levels, sorta reminiscent of a late-sixties trio of acid stoners jamming into the night. One-time pressing of 1000 copies housed in a heavy duty gatefold sleeve with amazing photos from the time of these recordings (1982-1985). Very rare, grab it quick!

Sunburned Hand Of The Man - The Trickle-Down Theory Of Lord Knows What. CD. (Eclipse Records - ECL22) CD release of the LP that surfaced in June 2003 which sold out in a few months time. Recorded in June of 2002,it's a fluid, lo-fi album of formless cosmic music for ordinary freaks. Indecipherable chants come in dripping with echo; drones pervade almost everything; drums gradually rise through the songs as if the appropriate rhythms were discovered as a latent effect; and after a while, the sounds vanish. The group is part of a cosmic folk explosion or what some call the 'New Weird America'.

Third World War - Armageddon. Dble CD. (Eclipse Records - ECCD 3) Featuring both their albums, this early '70s UK band were an angry agit-prop act that performed raw but melodic songs about social realities and injustices. With music is as angry as the lyrics, there's plenty of killer staccato guitar and crushing bass lines..... Often cited as the first UK punk act, this official remastered release comes with a neat booklet of pics and press cuttings.
