Davy Graham & Shirley Collins - Folk Roots - New Routes. CD. (Fledgling - FLED3052)

CD re-issue of this 1964 release which was Davy's second album, and on which, as the title suggested, Shirley Collins showed that a love of traditional English music shouldn't be a retrogressive thing. Like Peter Bellamy, Shirley was encouraging UK folk to progress before Fairport were even out of short trousers, which makes the fact that she married one of them even more ironic!!

Dorris Henderson & John Renbourne - Watch The Stars. CD. (Fledgling - FLED 3055)

First released in 1967, Watch The Stars is a remarkable long-lost gem from the mid-'sixties British folk revival. A beautiful collection of folk, blues and haikus, the album melds a folk-boom topicality with a fine "beat" sensibility: uniting the Afro-American West Coast with suburban London. Long out-of-print, the record is an early milestone in the careers of Dorris Henderson (also of Eclection, the band that kickstarted the careers of Trevor Lucas and Georg Kajanus) and John Renbourn. On the album Dorris and John are joined by the classical guitarist Tim Walker and Danny Thompson (from Pentangle) on double bass. Contains two songs written by Anne Briggs and an early cover of Arthur Lee’s "Message To Pretty". For this carefullly remastered edition Fledgling have restored all the elements of the original artwork and added several previously unpublished photographs. Not previously available on compact disc. Deluxe slipcased packaging.
