Label Listing : Gear Fab/Comet Records (14 products)

Big Boy Pete - World War IV. LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC 414)

Another unreleased gem from Big Boy Pete Miller. Recorded in '68 and almost released on the Apple label a year later, this has now been lovingly unearthed and remastered by those nice folk at Gear Fab. Subtitled 'A Symphonic Poem', the album is filled with the quirky weirdness and lyrical word poetry of his other better-known releases but leans in a more progressive rock direction. Housed in a thick card US style, textured sleeve and pressed on 180 gram vinyl..

Blues Train - The Blues Train. LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC 406)

Another mystery Canadian band of the early Seventies. English composer Johnny Kitchen has some involvement here but most of the musicians are, even now, unknown. What is certain though is that this is a rousing West Coast flavoured blues rock with plenty of ringing lead guitar, freaky keyboards, harmonica breaks and frantic vocals. If you like the more blues based San Francisco psych albums you will love this. Big Brother meets Paul Butterfield.... Exact reissue on 180 gram vinyl and in a hard card sleeve.

Bokaj Retsiem - Psychedelic Underground. LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC 409)

Tripped out 1968 German release reissued by the guys from Gear Fab. A kind of prog/psych exploitation album it's a trippy mixture of wailing guitars, chunky Hammond organ fills, strange lyrics and distorted effects. Everything is panned all over the stereo spectrum and the lyrics are teen-drug weirdness. If you love Blue Phantom, Ugly Custard, and early '70s European psych then check this out. It's awesome. Thick card sleeve and 180 gram vinyl!

Douglas Fir - Hard Heartsingin'. LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC 405)

Exact vinyl reissue of this Pacific NorthWest band's 1970 album. Reminiscent, in parts, of the Allman Brothers Band but with a more mysterious psychedelic vibe, the album has some strong keyboard work and flashes of trippy guitar. A fine release. 180 gram vinyl and thick card sleeve.

Kopperfield - Tales Untold. Dble LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC 412/2)

So obscure they don't even feature in Vernon Joynson's book, this Michigan band recorded just one album in 1974. This Gear Fab issue also collects a whole bunch or studio outtakes and live cuts to make up a nice 20 track package. Musically there are some superb vocal harmonies and instrumentally the band are tight with fine keyboard/guitar interplay. Heavy progressive rock, country and good old fashioned rock 'n' roll all get a look in on this excellent release. Double LP in heavy duty gatefold sleeve pressed on 180 gram vinyl....

Mock Duck - Test Record. Dble LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC 407/2)

A psych/rock band from Vancouver, their only album was first recorded live in 1968 but never officially released. This compilation includes that album plus four tracks recorded in the studio and an extra 20 minute live track. It's an eclectic mixture of psychy rock, and blues, with plenty of guitar solos and sax work. This vinyl issue is housed in an awesome three fold heavy duty sleeve illustrated with the bands psych gig flyers, and the double LP set is pressed on 180 gram vinyl. Mind blowing packaging!

Perry Leopold - Christian Lucifer. LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC 401)

Recorded in 1973 and never released until now, this is the follow-up to the acclaimed "Experiment in Metaphysics" album. More atmospheric acid folk music this is a concept album based upon religious motifs, ideals and duality - hence the title. It's not a God squad album however, and the beautiful orchestration and whistful intoverted mystical songs breathe a strange beauty. LP is 180 gram virgin vinyl with gatefold sleeve.

Beautiful triple fold sleeve / double LP package with another hefty chunk of mostly previously unreleased US 60's garage punk/psych singles. Psychedelic States - Florida In The 60's Volume 1. Dble LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC 415/2)

The first volume of what promises to be a long and interesting series. Culled from the state where folk don't know how to vote (probably due to what they were doing in the 60's!) here's a collection of 28 excellent pop psych and garage punk stompers from obscure acts such as Burlington Squires, Dead Beats, Waiveriders, Echoes of Barnaby Street, Twelfth Night and others. As you'd expect from a Gear Fab release there's an accompanying booklet crammed full of info. 180 gram vinyl and thick US style LP lavish three fold-sleeve.

Sigmund Snopek III - Virginia Woolf. Dble LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC421DLP)

Hailing from Wisconsin, and previously in psych band The Bloomsbury People, Snopek released this (deeply) underground classic in 1972. This is a remarkable melange of progressive rock, chamber music, atonal jazz and downright weirdness that has very little to compare it with. We reckon this makes Captain Beefheart sound positively normal ! This reissue includes two extra pieces. These days apparently Snopek is involved with the Violent Femmes - although in what capacity we dare not think ! Heavy duty pressing LP with heavy duty gatefold sleeve!

Yancy Derringer - Openers. LP. (Gear Fab/Comet Records - GFC 410)

Released in 1975, this Wisconsin band utilised progressive, hard rock and psychedelic influences on this much underrated album. Moogs and mellotrons vie with guitars on 7 excellent tracks including the seven minute "Weedburner". American style hard card sleeve and 180 gram vinyl....
