Fairport Convention - Rising For The Moon (remastered). CD. (Island - IMCD 312) Sandy Denny briefly re-joined Fairport to reunite with her husband Trevor Lucas and other another Fotheringay mainstay Jerry Donahue. Together with Dave Swarbrick and co they made this truly great album. It combines the best elements of both Fotheringay and Fairport but was sadly to be Sandy Denny's last album for the band. The beautiful rousing title track is one of the best English Folk Rock songs ever recorded and other tracks like 'White Dress' and 'Iron Lion', are of the same standard. John Martyn - Bless The Weather. CD. (Island - IMCD321) Martyn's third solo album, originally released in 1971 (not including the two he made with his then wife Beverly), featuring 'Let The Good Things Come' 'Head And Heart' and the instrumental 'Glistening Glyndebourne' which was the first of his compositions to feature the sound-defining Echoplex. Sonically, this was an artist in transition, as his vocals became slowly more jazz-inflected and less folky, and Pentangler Danny Thompson's upright bass playing rose further to the fore. Digitally remastered and now including seven bonus tracks.

John Martyn - Inside Out. CD. (Island - IMCD322) The most experimental of the Glaswegian's albums (up to that point anyway) and the one on which his obsession with jazz and electronics, which had been growing omnipresent since 'The Tumbler', finally took hold. Here, not only is the Echoplex the most prominent sound on the album, but Martyn's own voice has become an instrument, in the same way that Billie Holiday or Annie Ross shaped their voice to emulate the sax playing of Lester Young and Wardell Gray. Even on the traditional Celtic 'Ebhil Ghail' the feeling of freedom, experimentation and exploring unchartered territory is everywhere: it further adds a surreal texture to poignant love songs such as 'Beverly' and 'The Glory Of Love', as does the appearance of Steve Winwood and Chris Wood of Traffic, but the real tour de fource is the eight minute plus title track. Now remastered and including four bonus tracks, this still vies for position with 'Grace And Danger' as his best album. Shame he went all coffee table on us in the 90s!!

John Martyn - London Conversation. CD. (Island - IMCD319) Martyn's debut album from 1967, and to this date the only thing he ever recorded that could be called a straight ahead folk album. Consisting mainly of just voice and guitar (except on the droning, slurring, dulcimer-based 'Rolling Home', which hinted at glories to come), this is very much an album of the 'Swinging Sixties' and like Al Stewart's release of the same year, 'Bedsitter Images', it reflects the image of its creator: the naïve young Scotsman in London, dazzled and bemused by the bright lights and bustle of the capital. The main influences are Bert Jansch and Davy Graham, although American folk and blues manages to creep in, and one gets the impression this is the sound of someone yet to find their true voice- although the compositions are among the best by any writer of that era. Worthy of indepth investigation, especially in its remastered and expanded form which includes a previously unreleased version of 'She Moved Through The Fair'.

John Martyn - Solid Air. CD. (Island - IMCD274) Remastered CD version of the 1973 classic by the UK folk/blues singer songwriter. A thick, jazzy album with slurred vocals and a great cover of Skip James' "I'd Rather Be the Devil" which utilizes an Echoplex delay effect giving the guitar work an otherworldly feel. One of the great late night albums

John Martyn - Sunday's Child. CD. (Island - IMCD323) Martyn's 1975 release reflects the change in his life and surroundings: the joys of home and family, as tracks like 'My Baby Girl' (dedicated to his recently born daughter) and the title track show, are the core of the album, although there's still room for anger on tracks like 'The Message' which let his percussive guitar playing rip. This was the last of Martyn's albums to feature any traditional material (in the shape of 'Spencer The Rover') and the last approaching anything that could be called folk. It would also be the last album he would record for three years: in that time, the marriage would begin to fragment, finally crumbling during the recording of his 'One World' album in 1977. A transitional album then, now digitally remastered and expanded to feature no less than seven bonus tracks including the previously unreleased 'Ellie Ree'.

John Martyn - The Tumbler. CD. (Island - IMCD320) Martyn's second release for Island, originally released in 1968 and produced by his friend and fellow Glaswegian Al Stewart. Already beginning to move into jazz and blues-related areas, here he employed jazz flautist Harold McNair, a second guitarist, and the man who would remain his lifelong musical collaborator- Pentangle bassist Danny Thompson, whose upright playing took Martyn's songwriting into another dimension. Indeed, the blend of folk, blues and jazz displayed here is not too dissimilar to the work of that band. Martyn's own vocal style was also moving further and further towards jazz in its inflections, and his compositions, such as 'The River' 'Winding Boy' 'The Gardener' and the wonderfully titled 'Kuckledy Crunch And Slipedge Slee' were becoming more idiosyncratic. Now digitally remastered.

Nick Drake - Magic/Northern Sky. 7". (Island - IS854) Very, very limited 7" pressing of the first-ever single release from this legendary British singer/songwriter. Modern technology has allowed Nick's voice to be removed from 'Magic' and the track to be sped up to it's proper tempo without altering the pitch (then the vocals replaced) and includes a new string octet part which is beautiful. You now hear the song as Nick intended it to be heard. B/W Northern Sky and housed in a die-cut picture sleeve.

Nick Drake - Pink Moon. CD. (Island - IMCD 094) The deluxe version of Nick's final album appeared in 1972. Melancholic and melodic musings - here performed totally solo with an acoustic guitar. Completely remastered and repackaged.

(Island - IMCD270) Nice introduction to these gifted singer,songwriters with the tracks taken from the 4 studio albums that Richard and Linda Thompson made for Island Records in the 1970s (Henry the Human Fly - actually a Richard Thompson solo record with Linda's background vocals - the classic" I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight", "Hokey Pokey", and "Pour Down Like Silver") All the tracks display a remarkable richness of texture both musical and lyrical.This is an essential CD

Richard & Linda Thompson - Hokey Pokey. CD. (Island - IMCD305) The re-issue and re-master of this 1975 album which is as happy and upbeat as anything Richard (and, of course, Linda) Thompson has ever done. Saying that Richard still manages to bring in the doom with the intriguing, slightly sinister "The Egypt Room." Brilliant stuff. Fully repackaged with detailed booklet.

Richard & Linda Thompson - Pour Down Like Silver. CD. (Island - IMCD306) Re-issue and expanded slipcased version of this 1975 release (their 3rd) which features "For Shame Of Doing Wrong," "Beat The Retreat," and "Dimming Of The Day/Dargai," (includes great guitar) which are all excellent doomy Richard Thompson songs. On an upbeat note the album included the "Jet Plane In A Rocking Chair." The couple appear on the album cover showing their dedication to the Sufi sect of Islam. Fully repackaged with a new booklet.

Sandy Denny - Best Of Sandy Denny. CD. (Island - IMCD 217) Excellent retrospective of one of Englands finest singer-songwriters. Aged 30 when she died she had already produced a significant body of work and left behind a career to cherish. This is an excellent place to start if you are new to Sandy's work.

Sandy Denny - Gold Dust Live At The Royalty-the Final Concert. CD. (Island - IMCD 0000252) Live performance from 27/11/1977 which was also to be Sandy's last ever.The performance contains rockish numbers such as "I wish I was a Fool for You" to the choice of Richard Thompson's "For Shame of Doing Wrong" through to "Gold Dust".Backing comes from both Fairport and Fotheringay members.

Sandy Denny - Like An Old Fashioned Waltz. CD. (Island - IMCD315) Digitally remastered copy and housed in a slipcase of the 1973 release from this unique singer songwriter that featured her cover of "Whispering Grass". Little did she know that her version would not become a hit, but also that a year later, comedians Windsor Davies and Don Estelle would take the same song to No.1 in the UK. No wonder she sought solace in the bottle!!! This was to be her last solo record for 4 years, as soon after she would become involved in an ill-fated attempt to rejoin Fairport and 'crack America'. Other key tracks: "No End," " Dark The Night," "Solo," and a barnstorming version of Sammy Cahn's "Until The Real Thing Comes Along" which is made even more poignant considering the life of the artist concerned. The second of her gradual steps away from folk.

Sandy Denny - Listen Listen - An Introduction To. CD. (Island - IMCD 253) Seventeen track retrospective of one of England's finest singer-songwriters Sandy Denny. Having worked the burgeoning London folk scene in the mid-sixties, she went on to record and play with The Strawbs, Fotheringay, Fairport Convention and was the only guest vocalist ever to appear on a Led Zeppelin album. All tracks are taken from her four solo albums and include "Solo", "Blackwaterside" and the wonderful title track.

Sandy Denny - North Star Grassman And The Ravens. CD. (Island - IMCD 313) The late Sandy Denny remains the pre-eminent British folk-singer.This remaster of the album from 1971 was her first solo album proper and like all her subsequent efforts featured Richard Thompson on guitar who is joined here with members of Mighty Baby and of course the ubiquitous Barry and Robin Dransfield. Highlights on this album include 'Late November' & the lengthy 'John The Gun' alongside the heartbreaking 'Next Time Around' and the wintery 'Wretched Wilbur'- the latter of which feature the chilling strings of Harry Robinson to great effect. A legendary folk singer with a beautiful voice and an album that should be in everyone's collection. Slipcased and includes expanded booklet and 4 bonus tracks, two of which have never been before released.

Sandy Denny - Sandy. CD. (Island - IMCD 314) Digitally remastered version of the eponymous follow up to North Star Grassman is as good as her debut. A song of real note is the haunting 'It'll Take A Long Time' which is sheer beauty, but others ('It Suits Me Well' 'The Quiet Joys Of Brotherhood and 'The Music Weaver') are equally as haunting.The album as a whole is certainly her most consistant solo venture This album was recorded in 1972 and is a worthy addition to any decent record collection. Contains 5 bonus tracks (including two tunes from the soundtrack to the rare as hens-teeth Brit costume drama Pass Of Arms), expanded sleevenotes and slipcase packaging.

Sparks - Big Beat. CD. (Island - 9843412) 21st Century remastered version of Sparks' 1976 album. A more stripped down sound than previous albums, it was recorded with the assistance of various session men. With 20 page booklet, lyrics memorabilia and essays. Fear not, the lyrics are as fantastic as ever, they show off a healthy streak of political incorrectness and charm. Includes "Thrown Her Away (And Get A New One)", "I Want To Be Like Everybody Else" and "I Like Girls."

Sparks - Indiscreet. CD. (Island - 9843411) Sparks - Californian brothers, Ron and Russell Mael are one of the greatest art-pop turns of all time. The duo will always be remembered for when they burst on the UK scene in 1974 with their groundbreaking single, THIS TOWN AIN'T BIG ENOUGH FOR BOTH OF US. Russell's falsetto was underpinned by Ron's amazing visual imagery - causing John Lennon to humorously quip at the time, look, there's Hitler on the telly! Now re-issued as a 21st Century remaster. Their fourth album is full of their trademark witty lyrics as breakneck ideas fly from the speakers within seconds of the CD starting, not letting up until the end. As epic and imaginative as you could possibly want from a '70's album. With twenty page booklet, lyrics memorabilia and new essays.

Spooky Tooth - Best Of. CD. (Island - IMCD 0000074) Tasty introduction to the classic late '60's/early '70's UK psych prog outfit previously known as Art (who played on the 1st Hapshash album.)Contains "Tobacco Road","Last Puff","Self Seeking Man" great covers og "The Weight" , "I Am The Walrus" and more.

Traffic - An Introduction To. CD. (Island - IMCD257) 12 track 24 bit Introductory anthology of this English band's early and best work on the Island label plus it samples most of their albums including "Pearly Queen","John Barleycorn",Dream Gerrard","Empty Pages" and more. There isn't a weak track on here. Great '60's psych and '70's prog/rock.

Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die (Remastered). CD. (Island - IMCD266) Really a Steve Winwood solo album featuring members of Traffic this classic album from 1970 featured Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood. A superb fusion of folk and jazz influenced rock which is highlighted on the tracks 'Glad', 'Freedom Rider' and 'Empty Pages' as well as the title track. Now remastered with two unreleased bonus tracks. Great album.

Traffic - Last Exit. CD. (Island - 842 787-2) Seminal psychedelic blues rock outfit formed in 1967 by Steve Winwood after he left the Spencer Davis Group. This was their third album (and final as the original lineup) originally released in 1969. Featuring five studio tracks and two live recordings from Filmore West it's a mixture of psych tinged pop and more progressive rock. There's some fine guitar work from Dave Mason.

Traffic - Last Exit (Punched Out Sleeve). LP. (Island - 7 90925-1) This out of print classic is made available again on vinyl (Direct Metal Mastering) in original sleeve. Seminal psychedelic blues rock outfit formed in 1967 by Steve Winwood after he left the Spencer Davis Group. This was their third album (and final as the original lineup) originally released in 1969. Featuring five studio tracks and two live recordings from Filmore West it's a mixture of psych tinged pop and more progressive rock. There's some fine guitar work from Dave Mason.

Traffic - Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys (Remastered). CD. (Island - 5488272) Psychedelic blues and rock outfit formed in 1967 by Steve Winwood. Here is their 1971 album which is more commercial sounding than earlier releases with a jazzy funky edge but still has plenty of melodic power guitar riff based songs. Newly remastered with a bonus track "Rock and Roll Stew (parts 1 & 2)"

Traffic - Mr Fantasy (Remastered). CD. (Island - IMCD 264) Absolutely essential 1967 psychedelic album by this UK supergroup that included Jim Capaldi, Dave Mason, Stevie Winwood, and Chris Wood. Remastered, this CD issue not only includes the whole of the UK stereo mixes, but the US mono version with "Paper Sun", "Hole In My Shoe", "Smiling Phases" and "We're A Fade You Missed This"... An album that successfully straddles treacle-toffee pop-syke and acid drenched lunched-out weirdness. One of the Top 10 UK '60s psych albums!!!

Traffic - On The Road (Remaster). CD. (Island - B000096FSU) Originally released as a double live album in 1973, which featured their expanded 6 member band. All the tracks head off into lengthy jams which feature plenty of room for soloing by the musicians. "Low Spark of the High Heeled Boys" lasts 18 minutes and "Glad / Freedom Rider" keeps rocking for over 20 minutes.This is '70's progressive jazz-influenced rock at it's finest. Remastered from original tapes.

Traffic - Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory. CD. (Island - IMCD44) Recorded in Jamaica this 1973 album was massive in America and rather ignored in the UK. Why we will never know as it is a finely crafted slice of '70's jazz-influenced rock. The percussion and vibes from Rebop Kwaku Baah really spice things up and give the band a fresh direction. Definitely one to investigate!

Traffic - Traffic (Remastered). CD. (Island - IMCD265) Remastered and with four bonus tracks, this is the UK supergroups 2nd album from 1968, with the original line-up of Jim Capaldi, Dave Mason, Stevie Winwood and Chris Wood. Not quite as psychedelic as "Mr. Fantasy", it nonetheless is a fine slice of late '60s psychy/prog with outstanding musicianship throughout and plenty of classy tracks.

Traffic - Welcome To The Canteen (Remastered Version). CD. (Island - 5868472) 1971 live album that was an excellent mixture of old Traffic songs and recent Mason favorites by the reformed lineup of the band. "Dear Mr. Fantasy" gets an extended workout, and a rearranged version of Steve Winwood's old Spencer Davis Group hit "Gimme Some Lovin' is fine indeed. Musicianship is exemplary. Remastered.

Traffic - When The Eagle Flies (Remastered). CD. (Island - IMCD 0000142) 1974 release that contained 'Walking in the Wind' and the epic 'Dream Gerard' the intriguing lyrics of which were taken from a blank-verse from the Bonzo Dog Band's Vivian Stanshall. All the songs were jammed over long musical structures and as a result this is the bands jazziest and least structured album. Sadly this was also to be Traffic's last studio album until 1994!

VIP's - Straight Down To The Bottom/In A Dream. 7". (Island - WI 6005) Another stunning 7" re-issue from the band that went on to become Art and later Spooky Tooth. Originally released in 1967 (the year VIP's became Art) and featuring the talents of Mike Harrison and Keith Emerson this is a fantastic slice of beat/R'n'B from a band that deserve all the attention they can get.. and then some.Produced by Jimmy Miller (Stones). This is a reproduction of the original French Jukebox pressings ie: large centre hole.The original label has been faithfully reproduced. This 60s UK psyche masterpiece is very desirable, collectable and mega-limited to 500 copies only.

White Noise - An Electric Storm. CD. (Island - 3D CID 1001) Truly stunning UK album from 1968. Utilising all kinds of early electronics and featuring members of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop, this is alternately frightening, majestic and downright insane and definitely should come with a "Do Not Listen Whilst Tripping" sign on the cover. (Unless you think you can handle it?) Awesome!!! (File next to Brainticket.)
