Etron Fou Leloublan - Battelages. CD. (Musea - GA 8659)

Mythical French band from the 1970s featuring vocalist Eulalie Ruynat, bassist/vocalist Ferdinand Richard, saxophonist Chris Chanet, and drummer Guigou Chenevier. This is their first of seven albums, originally released in 1976. This unbelievable trio were openly challenging the ethics of mass-market music economics and stylisitcally they were travelling far beyond the bounds of conventional rock music, creating jerky, densely rhythmic and humurous rock near Captain Beefheart and ZNR. They were also a part of the renowned Rock in Opposition coalition in collaboration with, in particular, Fred Frith and Chris Cutler's Henry Cow. A fantastic album full of fantasy and energy.

Etron Fou Leloublan - Les Poumons Gonfles. CD. (Musea - GA 8861)

Reissue of 1982 album by French avant garde/progressive band. Produced by Fred Frith, who hired them to play on some of his own albums like the great "Speechless" and "Gravity". Rhythmic, quirky, sometimes with a surprisingly astute pop-sensibility and othertimes more experimental. Along with their masterful debut this is one of their best albums. Recommended to fans of Captain Beefheart, ZNR and Henry Cow etc.

Focus - Focus 8. CD. (Musea - FGBG4472)

From the opening cut "Rock & Rio" the sound takes you back thirty odd years to the 'Moving Waves' album. On this 2002 release Hammonds clash with hard-blues riffs and a tight rhythm section and not forgetting the flute and famous yodels.Yes it's all here in this storming comeback album.Good to have you back guys!

Lady Lake - Super Clean Dream Machine. CD. (Musea - FGBG4603)

Brand new album from an early 70s Dutch band obviously somewhat enamoured of British prog and folk- taking their name from a Gnidrolog album, and some of the attitude of Principal Edwards or Tudor Lodge, then adding the sound and feel of the whole Canterbury scene. Their debut album 'No Pictures' was issued in the '70s and not released on CD until 1997: here, in 2005 they finally release their second album of brand new material, on which they sound exactly like they did all those years ago. Delightful vintage Euro prog/psych with a touch of wyrd folk.

Loch Ness - Drumnadrochit. CD. (Musea - FGBG 4280.AR)

1994 album by the crazy Mexican tripheads. This is much heavier than their other title and is filled with real heavy duty guitar freakouts. Hard 'n' heavy instrumental prog/psych rock with plenty of wailing guitars.

London Underground - Through A Glass Darkly. CD. (Musea - FGBG4510)

Second album by Italian Psychedelic/Progressive rock band strongly rooted in the late 60's /early 70's Psychrock. All the right moves are here. From mighty Hammonds and mellow Mellotrons to acidic guitar breaks with wah wah & backwards effects and above all excellent musicianship and songwriting. NO! endless guitar struggles here, but catchy tunefull songs! In places it has early 70's Floydian atmospherics. Strongly recommended!!

Pierre Moerlen's Gong - Full Circle Live 1988. CD. (Musea - FGBG4386AR)

A famous drummer-percussionist from Strasbourg, France, Pierre Moerlen had a prolific career filled with prestigious collaborations. He imposed his very particular percussive style and created a reference in the style of Progressive jazz-rock. And this is in this musical style that Pierre Moerlen's Gong take us: proudly assuming his part of the great inheritance left by Daevid Allen and company, his interpretation is less focused on the psychedelic or space-rock, more jazz-tinged. "Full Circle - Live 1988" is an excellent witness of a German tour: a truly indispensable album for all Gong fans and those who followed this recently departed drum master.

Sandrose - Sandrose. CD. (Musea - FGBG 4003)

Beautiful flowing 1972 album by this mellow French progressive band featuring superb keyboard and guitar interplay and female vocals. In places sounds a bit like Julian's Treatment and Earth and Fire. Very rare on vinyl and one of the classic '70s Euro progressive rock albums.

Sebastian Hardie - Four Moments. CD. (Musea - FGBG 4273)

Credited as being the first Australian symphonic rock release, this debut 1975 album was a fine progressive rock piece, awash with the inevitable Moogs, mellotrons, hammond organs and Pink Floyd like guitar. This could almost be called pastoral with its often classical feel. Excellent stuff!

Sebastian Hardie - Windchase. CD. (Musea - FCBG 4274.AR)

More excellent symphonic progressive rock from Australia. This second album from 1976 features more tuneful and melodic instrumentation with a lush production and particularly fine guitar work.

Shingetsu - Live 25-26 July 1979, ABC Kaikan Hall Tokyo. CD. (Musea - FGBG4571)

Before the advent of the Japanese school of Progressive rock music during the 1980s (represented by Gerard, Outer Limits or Pageant) a number of local bands of great interest were already active, top of the list were Shingetsu. Led by the majestic voice of charismatic singer Makoto Kitayama, their music is full of a sophistication and virtuosity that was far from common at the time. There is also a unique sense of theatricality, at the crossroads between traditional Japanese influences and scenical innovations ala Genesis. This early live recording (recorded a month after their stunning eponymous album) is an authentic document of a seminal band largely unknown outside their native country but deserved of the highest respect.

Soft Machine - Legacy. CD. (Musea - FGBG4667)

The last studio album by Soft Machine, the quintessential jazz-rock band from the sixties, was made ten years ago (1996). With the recently departed Elton Dean on sax alongside Hugh Hopper, John Etheridge and John Marshall, the album includes classics like "Kite Runner", "Strange Comforts" and new songs. As always Soft Machine's music is undefinable, a mix of jazz, rock, blues, a lot of improvisation - a brilliant and eclectic album.
