Peter Hammill/Guy Evans - Spur Of The Moment. CD. (Music Galore - CDR102) Reissue of late 80s collaboration between two mainstays of the seminal Van Der Graaf Generator, the band that influenced everyone from Marillion and Dream Theater to Soft Cell and the Sex Pistols. Sadly there's no room for Hammill's trademark vocal snarlings here- the music is instrumental, improvised and largely electronic in nature, as the duo (with instrumentation consisting of piano, drums, semi-acoustic guitar, Octapad, and 'mother keyboard' driving racks of samplers, triggers and synths), duel, dogfight, call-and-response and mirror each others' parts until the sound blurs into a warm yet disturbing melange. For extreme Hammill fans, one would imagine- and there's nothing wrong with that!!
