Aum - Bluesvibes. CD.

Led by singer/multi-instrumentalist Wayne Ceballos, with drummer Larry Martin and bassist Ken Newell rounding out the trio, the group's initial reputation stemmed from their jam-oriented concerts. As one would expect from the title, the group's 1969's album found them working in a distinctively blues-vein. Reflecting the band's live act, this Richard Gotthrer-produced debut features a series of seven extended jams, (the shortest song clocking in at 4 minutes). Ceballos proved a decent singer, injecting considerable energy into his performances and the band really soars in many occasions. Truly interesting. Fantastic Rick Griffin artwork adorns the sleeve.

Aum - Resurrection. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF628)

San Francisco act who were a very popular around the city's ballrooms in the late 60's. This their second album is from 1969 and it's a really diverse affair with a mixture of hard rock and psychedelic numbers. The title track is a dreamy epic affair with some great guitar work while a gospel tinge creeps in on "God is Back in Town". This is worthy of investigation. Originally on Bill Graham's Fillmore label.

Chilliwack - Chilliwack 2. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF 613)

What ever happened to The Collectors, that fantastic Canadian '60's psych band? They became Chilliwack ! This stunning 2nd album from 1971 is their best release. Originally a double album it's a breathtaking mixture of rock and pop with an acid rock edge perfectly blending multi-layered harmonies, flute, acoustic instrumentation and ripping guitar work. The album covers all bases from experimental sound explorations through melodic West Coast styled acid rock, and folk rock. The centre piece is the 13 minute "Changing Reels" which is the most Collectors like piece on the album and includes a mind blowing guitar freakout.

1971 debut from UK heavy prog three piece Hard Stuff featuring guitarist John Cann (ex-Andromeda, Attack), bassist John Gustafson (ex-Big Three) and drummer Paul Hammond (ex-Atomic Rooster). Heavy riffing and some wild solos give this a feel somewhere between Atomic Rooster and Deep Purple. It actually includes a version of Ian Gillan's rare "Monster In Paradise". Another gem unearthed from the early 70s UK rock scene.

Josefus - 2nd & Dead Man. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF 608)

The Dead Man album plus the second album (that came out on mainstream in 1970) by the American hard rock merchants. Two of the greatest US heavy psych albums ever made from the band who could be called the original US stoner-rockers. Dirty heavy and raw with trippy lead guitar breaks....The title track of Dead Man is over 17 minutes long! Note the CD incorrectly calls the second album the 1st.

Sir Lord Baltimore - Sir Lord Baltimore/Kingdom Come. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF 639)

Both albums (originally on Mercury) available on one CD by this New York power trio . Early heavy rock (1970/72) with savage guitar work and touches of progressive rock in their work, especially on the longer tracks (Man From Manhattan). Sir Lord Baltimore reflect the hard rock/progressive rock of their day very well and it's good to see these albums available again.

Stud - Stud. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF 615)

Self titled album by this fine UK band who released this their debut in 1971. A three piece the band played a brand of guitar based heavy progressive rock featuring some fine guitar work that at times sounds like early Wishbone Ash. A slight rural feel mixed with jazzy, driving and complex jamming creates an adventurous and rewarding blend.

Tear Gas - Tear Gas. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF631)

UK (Scottish) early '70s band featuring Zal Cleminson who made this killer album which is a hard edged progressive acid rock masterpiece in the same league as T2's debut. Great guitar work that at times has a Floyd feel and at other times the energy and attack of Hendrix. Multi layered vocal harmonies and some wonderful songs. Essential (CD contains extra track with vocals by Alex Harvey).

Ton Vlasman - White Rooms With Disintegrating Walls. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF 623)

This is a real Dutch space folk monster from 1970 originally on Flame records. The title alone tells you where it's coming from! A wildly drug induced album full of dark psychedelia with folky overtones and exotic instrumentation. A totally original album and very highly recommended to fans of weird eerie psychedelia.

Visions Of Rarities From The 60's & 70's. - Various. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF622)

Fantastic psychedelic, pop, garage prog compilation containing a collection of great rarities by various artists in various '60's and 70's genres. Pick of the crop is 'Psychedelic Situation' by Jimmy Curtis which is the kind of psych-pop mind bender comparable to The First Editions 'Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Condition was In'. At the other end of the spectrum we have the super rare 4 track Arcadium acetate which preceeds their rare UK progressive psych album. Also on the comp are similarly rare tracks from Group Therapy, Billy Hamon, the rare Ning 7" 'Machine' - originally on Decca - Lazy Bulldog, White Trash and more. A general collection of wild obscurities from the '60's and '70's. Crazy!

Warm Dust - And It Came To Pass. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF 610)

Debut 1970 album from UK Jazz fusion prog rockers Warm Dust. It Came To Pass is lot more psychy than later releases and although not as great as Peace For Our Time, it has some good tracks on it. Most notibly the first cut Turbulance and the cover of the Ritchie Havens tune "Indian Rope Man".

Warm Dust - Peace For Our Time + Warm Dust. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF 611)

The second album from UK '70's prog band Warm Dust - Peace For Our Time - highlights their jazz rock fusion sound with a Second World War theme. The sax really stands out counterpointing the organ nicely and combined with some great vocals shows how Jazz fusion should be played. As a bonus you get the German only release "Dreams Of Impossibilities" - on this CD titled Warm Dust. Cool!!

White Witch - A Spiritual Greeting. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF651)

Second, more diverse album from this early 70s US band, who are the musical equivalent of discovering some obscure tacky old film from the same period that fascinates and confuses you simultaneously. Still largely on a glam/metal tip image wise, but incorporating influences from The Kinks ('Walk On') and Genesis crossed with shameless Bowieisms ('Class Of 2000', 'Crystalise And Realise') that step right outside of the usual hard rock remit. Vocalist Ron Goedert, who sadly died in 2000, covers a wide range of lyrical ground- from the Book Of Revelations (which have suggested to some that the band were Christian) to standard glam references, ie Jean Harlow and Marilyn Monroe, and on 'Showdown' the band come the closest anyone ever has to crossing Purple's raunch with pure pop and almost soul vocals. Trhe final track 'Auntie Christy' contains the lyric 'Acey was a spade, Jackson was a slade'- heard by a later member of Murderdolls perhaps? An undiscovered gem, to be filed alongside Piper, Susan, Starz, Skyhooks, Agony Bag, Jet (UK) and The Godz (70s). Remastered.

White Witch - White Witch. CD. (Red Fox Records - RF650)

White Witch, who were originally signed to Capricorn Records, may well have been the originators, despite their sonic unpredictability, alongside Brownsville Station and Sorcery, of hair metal or sleaze metal in the US as we know it. This 1972-released debut album predates Aerosmith, Starz, Angel and Kiss by some 18 months, and is every bit as gloriously fey as Motley Crue's first recordings some eight years later- yet is of a far proggier bent- for despite all its campery (particularly in the overtly Sweet-esque image depicted on the photo shots) this is still a product of the hippie era, and the primary influences, as with Brit glamsters Silverhead, are Uriah Heep and Deep Purple- hence the Gillanesque banshee shrieks of vocalist Ronn Goedert and the Lord/Hensley-like Hammond pounding of Buddy Pendergrass- although on 'Don't Close Your Mind' they bear a passing resemblance to early BOC, and the charming 'It's So Nice To Be Stoned' is a slice of vaudevillian ragtime that wouldn't be out of place on a Love, Grateful Dead or Charlatans (US) album. Definitely worth seeking out if you are into any of the bands mentioned above, if you bought any of RPM's "Junk Shop Glam" series- or if you enjoy the idea of a band with a slightly Christian lyrical take on 'white' magic as opposed to Coven and Black Widow's truck with the left hand path. Remastered with booklet.
