Atlanta Rhythm Section - Georgia Rhythm. CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV97812)

A great example of the term Classic Rock, their sound is a healthy dose of Southern States Rock with a twist of Pop and Country thrown in for good measure. Dion - Bronx In Blue. CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV95752)

What Dion himself classes as a return to his roots, this is an album of blues standards; largely tracks by Robert Johnson as well as Bo Diddley, Blind Willie McTell, Lightnin' Hopkins, Jimmy Reed and Son House. Having started out in music listening to this era of material, elements of his early Rock n Roll singles of the '50's clearly benefitted from this rich musical heritage. Considering that Dion has constantly evolved his style of solo albums over the decades, this fits in well with his prime back catalogue. The circle is effectively completed with a bluesy version of his old hit "The Wanderer" added as a bonus track.

Electric Flag - An American Band / A Long Time Comin'. Dble CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV49642)

Two fer one album from Mike Bloomfield's blues/jazz rockers which he formed after he was in Paul Butterfield Blues Band in 1967. Forming a band that combined blues, rock, soul, psychedelia, and jazz into something new this ambitious concept is displayed on this release with stunning drumming from Buddy Miles. Bloomfield knew for sure that he wanted a horn section in the band, which only add's to the power of the album. Housed in a digi pack.

Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush - Double Live. CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV97672)

Live album first released in 1988. Suggesting that Marino and his band flourish in the live arena might well be a bit of an understatement.; this is a superb example of their force on stage. Original twelve track edition remastered (with painstaking precision by Frank himself) and expanded with bonus "Something's Coming Our Way." Deluxe Digi Pack design with extensive liner notes by Marino. Includes: "Poppy", "Juggernaut", "Electric Reflections" and "Midnite Highway."

Frank Marion And Mahogany Rush - From The Hip. CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV304272)

Marino's eleventh studio album first released in 1993. A much more rockier LP than his '80's output, the bluesy riffs dominate proceedings. It is also the groups' attempt to make a much more melodically rich album than in comparison to their first few releases. Originally eight tracks, this remastered version features a bonus track "Hingston Heights", a surprisingly jazzy sixteen minute tune. Booklet features extensive exanatory liner notes.

Home - Pause For A Hoarse / A Long Time Comin'. CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV49662)

John Phillips - Jack Of Diamonds. CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV50772)

After the release of Wolfking, Phillips worked on a number of diverse film and record projects, including sessions for a second solo album, which he recorded intermittently in 1972 and 1973. Although that album was never completed, this eighteen track album (including tracks John was working on with other acts at the same time such as The Mama & Papas) is a rough approximation. A major departure from the countryrock of Wolfking and pop sound of The Mamas & The Papas, pushing a more urban, gritty, jazz-rock style (suggestive of later work by Steely Dan), reflective of time spent in New York with members of Andy Warhol’s Factory. One of these songs, "Me And My Uncle", was informally passed along to the Grateful Dead and became a staple of their live shows for decades. Only two of these tracks have ever been available before.

Jose Feliciano - Live At The Blue Note, NY. CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV97822)

Pete Townshend - All The Best Cowboys Have Chinese Eyes. CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV97682)

1982 solo album remastered from the original master tapes and presented in a Digi pack with bonus tracks and new liner notes. A surprising effort from Townshend, heavily indebted to the recent New Wave movement featuring synthesizers, drum machines and angular song structures. As always it is heavily autobiographical/analytical in places and high concept/Art in others. Three bonus tracks: "Vivienne", "Man Watching" and "Dance It Away" add to the original eleven.

Pete Townshend - White City. CD. (SPV / Yellow - SPV97692)

1985 nine track solo album remastered from the original master tapes and presented in a Digi pack with bonus tracks and new liner notes. Folowing on from the experimental Chinese Eyes album, this is a more traditional Townshend effort. Includes some superb individual songs that rank amongst his very best solo efforts, it is a concept album charting a feelling of despair and insecruity in the modern urban landscape. Clearly a subject close to his heart, this is a highly emotive and cerebral album, reflecting on lost opportunities and no hope, no win situations. Recommended. Bonus tracks: "Save It For Later", "Night School" and "Hiding Out (12" Mix)"
