LP version of this project put together by Dave Scher and Jimi Hey from Beachwood Sparks (and part time Lilly's members) the duo have made a record with signals from the sun, in a collision of displaced sound styles from the present, past, and future. This album combines a massive quantity of spaced out effects with beautiful vocal harmonies and a real trippy 60’s vibe to create one of the best modern psychedelic albums for years! Highly recommended. Finally the cowboys are taking acid.
Finally the cowboys are taking acid, Dave Scher and Jimi Hey from Beachwood Sparks (and part time Lilly's members) have made a record with signals from the sun, in a collision of displaced sound styles from the present, past, and future. This album combines futuristic spaced out effects(more than any record we can remember) with rich vocal harmonies and a real trippy 60’s vibe to create one of the best modern psychedelic album for years!Highly recommended.
2006 release from this US outfit. Buoyed by Ben Bridwell's warm, reverb-heavy vocals (which strangely channel a dichotomous blend of Wayne Coyne, Brian Wilson and Doug Martsch,) Band of Horses' woodsy, dreamy songs ooze with amorphous tension, longing and hope. At times raggedly epic ("The Great Salt Lake") and delicately pensive ("St. Augustine," "Monsters"), 'Everything All the Time' is an album painted gorgeously in fragile highs and lows
The beautiful debut album from this alt country band with heavy psychedelic leanings. This 2000 release saw the band experimenting with electronic effects like the Byrds did in the mid '60s with a re-occuring track called "Butterfly". The songs are very lysergically inspired and should be in any serious modern psychedelic collection. Contains fabulous tripped out artwork as well. Highly recommended.
2004 release from the band you listen to when your girlfriend leaves you cold, when you get tired of your boss using your spine as his pavement, when you want to put a fist through a wall etc.If you grew up on the Germs, The Pagans, then took a left turn/trip into Pere Ubu, Electric Eels, and Pussy Galore, and injected ‘60s garage-psyche like The Yardbirds, Blue Cheer, and Love into your veins at a young age then this new U.S. act is for you.
A Shocking U-turn from 2004's acid drenched Blue Cathedral, suddenly we have an earthy, accessable and absolutely beautiful piece of work. The most pleasing and unexpected element of the whole affair is the sheer progression in the musicianship, the arrangements and their songwriting capabilities without dulling the intensity. Diversity worthy of the White Album, it crams as many styles into under half the tracks; blues, prog esque ballads, psyche reminiscent of Procul Harum and full on tribalism! A genuine leap forward that deserves attention.

2004 sees the third album from Bay area finest and it's their most varied and richly textured album yet and they are still they the flag-bearers of modern psychedelia. Their trademark sound is here enriched by more structured, keyboard-driven jams, churning BlueOyster Cult-ish chooglers and slow burners reminiscent of Harvest-era Pink Floyd.

The most recent and interesting internet hyped bands originate from Brazil. Their name comes from a quote by Beyonce Knowles who was apparently "tired of being sexy", a statement these drinking buddies thought was hilarious. A five piece that sing in English, they have been compared to those monkeys from the Arctic for their cheeky lyrics ("Meeting Paris Hilton" / "Art Bitch" / "Let’s Make Love and Listen to Death From Above") but carve a fine line in rocking synth pop with little rock posturing. Lead singer Lovefoxxx isa shameless performer, yelping contently over the loose beats and synth lines, this and their dislike for shallow celebrity makes them a really exciting prospect.

Reissue of a classic drone rock pioneers 1995 album. Popular in both the metal and art rock scenes, Phase 3 finds leader Dylan Carlson once again embracing aggressive, monolithic size drone riffs played damn loud with little or no accompaniment. It's a frightening, psychotic and occasionally riveting world in here. Highlights include numerous mammoth tracks such as the seven minute "Tibetan Quadluudes", the fourteen minute title track and twelve minutes of "Agni Detonating Over The Thar Desert." Not for the faint hearted or easily distracted.
Formerly with Galaxie 500, the respected songwriting duo here team up with Japanese band Ghost to produce an album of alternating fragility and toughness. Masaki Batoh's guitar weaves its usual magical spell while some of the vocal arrangements positively drip with quality. This will definitly surprise a few people, and is already receiving positive reviews from mainstream press.
Brilliant new US band who have captured the spirit of the MC5 and other similar late '60s heavy garage psych bands. A fuzzed-up and whacked-out vibe is embellished with a late '60s Stones-like swagger and the full volume of Detroit circa '68. In some ways this band are trying to do what Thee Hypnotics attempted, but they pull it off with a far more convincing attitude. Rocks!
Two years after the release of Jennifer Gentle’s critically acclaimed Sub Pop debut Valende, the Italian psychedelic avant-pop explorers are back withtheir 2007 release 'Midnight Room'. The new record pulses with a nocturnal, feverish, hallucinatory emotional atmosphere, making for a truly unique aural experience. Informed by a deep love for American ‘50s rock ‘n’ roll and European musicians like Nino Rota and Kurt Weill
LP version of Jennifer Gentle's 2005 third full-length, and it's a psych pop charmer, drawing on the band's own brand of musical dementia: an almost impossible-to-describe melting pot of whacked experimentation, deep fried eccentricity and acoustic beauty, drawing judiciously on the band's long-term fascination with Syd Barrett, 13th Floor Elevators, and Joe Meek production techniques. Jennifer Gentle is also the first Italian band Sub Pop has ever signed.

San Francisco home-recording multi-instrumentalist Kelley Stoltz , newly signed to Sub Pop, follows up critics fave ‘Antique Glow’ with 13 tracks of psych rock, folk, blues, and pop.Housed in a mini card gatefold sleeve.

Kinski's third Long Player on the Sub Pop label. Produced by Randall Dunn (Earth , Sunn O), this is a kaleidoscopic mix of Kinski's expansive, over-driven power and intricate beauty. With majestically fuzzed-out guitar tones, spare and pounding rhythms, and swirling sonictextures, Down Below It's Chaos sums up Kinski's past and propels them into the ozone. The album cover for the CD release comes in three different colours, so it's a lucky dip to see which one you get.

Previously unreleased US 1968 album that was originally intended for release on Candy Floss Records (the same label as The CA Quintet and T.C. Atlantic) Inspired by the Trashmen and The Calico Wall, Michael Yonkers and his band recorded this insane and primitive release that is loaded with zonked guitar work and extremely weird and disturbing songwriting. Anyone that loves the unhinged side of US '60's garage psych will dig this rare gem.
Massive return to form from these men who invented modern North-West rock fundamentals. The overall feel of this album is what an Elektra follow up to Fun House could have been like, in spirit if not specifics. Excellent stuff. Gatefold sleeve.

Classic 1989 Grunge Album from the Seattle monsters. All the fuzz of early Blue Cheer and the energy of the Sonics on tracks like "In & Out of Grace" and "Mudride".One of the greatest debut albums of all time. Now comes complete with their first two 7" singles (including the "Touch me I'm Sick" classic") and 2 rare compilation cuts.'Top 5 Grunge/Garage albums you must own'
For 18 years they have plugged into wall sockets all over the world, proving to be one of the most consistently electrifying acts to survive the so-called 'grunge' implosion, whatever that was. The wolfish howls of singer Mark Arm, soulful splatterings of guitarist Steve Turner and frenzied fills of drummer Dan Peters have produced 9 albums to date, most of which are considered neo -garage classics. This the band's 2006 longplayer is performed with the same amplified urgency of their previous work. While history has shown musicians to be a largely unreliable lot, Mudhoney has never swayed in its vision of making loud, aggressive rock music and this album is no exception. Produced with the help of 3 notable knobsters (Phil Ek, Johnny Sangster, Tucker Martine) and boasting a blaring horn section, spooky vibes and more fuzz guitars than ever. Under A Billion Suns exposes a more snidely political -fuelled side to our shaggy-haired blue collar heroes but one revealed though the invariables of the Mudhoney recipe; thick, soggy punk riffs and underrated guitar dynamics, psychedelic tangents, bludgeon and snot-nosed fingerpointing. It is loud, it is fierce, and it is here for our world right now. Lucky for us, so is Mudhoney.
Absolutely superb album from these giants of the stoner rock genre, who certainly fall on the more psychedelic side of the wagon. Powerful trippy languid fuzz, massive stereo drums/bass and just a hint of The Stooges/MC5... but Nebula do have a strong melodic edge and this'll equally appeal to Sundial fans and long-term Stoner addicts. A scorcher!!
Vinyl pressing of this classic debut album (some would say) from one of Seattle's finest bands. Coming out in 1989 it contained the classic "Negative Creep" and "About a Girl" through to the mental "Mr. Moustache". Actually, in all seriousness, this is a great record and should be heard- it's just a shame that everything they followed it with was so dull.
Great retrospective CD of this Aussie act who released 2 albums for Sire Records during the late 70's of which have a crossover sound of the Stooges meeting the MC5 and no matter how many times you have heard that comparison this lot really did!
Along with 1996's "Harmacy" this 1994 effort comprises the essential Sebadon collection. Cutting back on their lo-fi noise sound and generally cleaning up their sound allowed the wonderfully unconventional pop songwriting of Lou Barlow and Jason Loewenstein to really shine through. Accessable and concise yet never pandering and always intelligent and original, this album should have been a far greater commercial success. This reissue offers those who slept on the original the chance to change that sad fact. A genuine unconventional masterpiece.
"Bubble and Scrape" has the honour of being the album on which the great Lou Barlow reached the peak of his songwriting skills. Featuring the consistently impressive "Soul and Fire" and the bitingly intense "Cliche", Barlow displays his incredible song-writing skills all over this album. It was also the last album to feature Eric Gaffney and the frustration and anger he brings to the sound creates an engaging interplay between Barlow's sweet indie writing and Gaffney's blisteringly dissonant slabs of noise. An album that presents a band growing in sophistication and creativity, full of diverse sounds that still have the power to amaze and entertain.
Reissue of the 1996 album Harmacy which presents lo-fi noise rock experimentalists Sebadoh at their most defined and accessable. Following the success of Lou Barlow's hit single with "The Folk Implosion" the band, under the guiding hand of Barlow, were beginning to embrace straightforward song structure and a cleaner production sound. Not to suggest that the lo-fi aesthetic had disappeared, simply that Barlow had widened his horizons. Throughout it all Jason Lowenstein keeps his two feet firmly entrenched in the noisey indie sound that had made Sebadoh a cult band and the diversity this brings to the sound makes for a classic album, sorely robbed of the commercial success it truly deserved.
Lou Barlow's songwriting shines through on this, Sebadoh's debut for Sub Pop. Collected from the import compilations "Rockin' the Forest" and "Sebadoh vs. Helmet", the Barlow compositions on this collection are emotional, fragile gems that light the way for the future of this under-appreciated and seminal indie band (although that classification is no-where near sufficent). An inspired cover of David Crosby's "Everybody's Been Burned" and the simply essential "Brand New Love" are worth the price alone.
Every bit as playground as the Ramones,as emotionally all-consumed as the Buzzcocks.Beginning with one of the best opening tracks all year,"Our Trip" which is a short and sweet, anathematic balls-out-rocker. One listen and you’ll be singing along "We’re not listening!/ we’re not listening!".The whole album races along blending pop and all out noise pop punk.
First album for the garage masters without drummer Jordan Hudson. This time The Thermals have created a wider, brighter and wilder sound than ever before, Walls of guitars and organs have been added to the mix that have embelished their post pop punk credentials. There are even the odd "pretty song" that will probably be the closest this group will ever get to balladry (still a million miles off Celine Dion mind you.) Lyrically it's a vision of a fascist Christian run America (what was their inspiration?) and the desperate need for escape. Overall, The Thermals sing about the need to get the fuck out while we still can. Cathartic, apocalyptic and earnest all at the same time, can they be our saviours?

2004 release from this act who are at the forefront of a quickly expanding American noise scene. Similar experience to Throbbing Gristle, early Cabaret Voltaire, Black Flag, Whitehouse, Pre-Asheton Destroy All Monsters, Negative Approach, Swans and early Sonic Youth.
