Just when you'd got over the joys of discovering Jobriath, Brett Smiley, John Howard, Martin Gordon and Peter Straker, here comes another lost glam genius of a bygone era for glitterhearts of the world to drool and slaver over!! Australia and New Zealand of course, were never countries oft associated with glitter and decadence: the stereotypical image of the "Occa Yobbo called Robbo" put paid to that, although ironically this was the continent that gave us Edna Everage. . .The truth was, Anzac androgynes were more plentiful than one could imagine, with acts like Skyhooks, Sherbet, Duffo and William Shakespeare all registering high on the glam-o-meter. NZ's own particular contribution to this fascinating subgenre of music was Alistair Riddell (no. not the Terrorizer journalist/ doom metal guitarist) who in 1975 laid down this Bowie- influenced masterpiece in 1975, armed with a sci-fi fixation, clothes made of velvet curtain material, and some seriously good songs. Now sadly forgotten- but not for long, as the album finally gets its first non-Antipodean release- this CD, described on its original LP issue as conjuring up "an androgynous and disquieting imagined world, a planet that shifts on its tectonic plates, with neither flag nor borders, Devoid of God, comprising metal-flake, eyeliner and nine precious idylls" will soon be taking pride of place on the shelf of any serious glam collector. Babes In Toyland - BBC Sessions. CD. (Cherry Red - CDMRED199) Here they are folks- all 16 tracks of twisted dollerama recorded for those noted Peel sessions betwixt 1990 and 1992 by Kat Bjelland and her cohorts. Screeching, venomous and nasty, the Babes ate most female rock bands of the 90s for breakfast the way the Bishop Of Bath And Wells Devoured babies. Among the tracks listed are faves such as 'Catatonic' 'Handsome And Gretel' 'Spit To See The Shine' 'Ripe' 'Right Now' and 'Magic Flute'. The booklet includes sleeve notes, a complete discography and plenty of sleeve artwork. Fnaaarrl!!

Bark Psychosis - Replay. CD. Bark Psychosis were one of the leading innovators of rock during their active period of 1988 to 1994. Their music is better described as post rock. Their use of samples to create textural soundscapes brings a whole new sound to the genre.Alongside the 5 live tracks are re-mastered versions of "Reserve Shotgunman", "Hex" and are joined by an ultra-rare track that all good Psychosis fans will have heard of - Clawhammer. Originally released in 1988 alongside an extract from Spacemen 3 Dreamweapon, this flexi-disc remains a collectors item for both Bark Psychosis fans and Spacemen 3 Devotee's alike. (Temple Records - COMD2091) Two CD set bringing together the best of the legendary Scottish group over the period 1977-2001 and the twenty five best tracks from their label Temple Records. Not only have Battlefield Band been producing great music for 25 years, but they have also been a developing ground for numerous other groups and artists, and this CD showcases the changes over the years. The second CD celebrates twenty five years of great Scottish and Irish music from the label founded by Robin Morton. This is a fabulous showcase that perfectly illustrates Morton's dream of bringing the best of Scottish music to a wider audience at a time when even some of the specialist albums demurred at the prospect of albums Devoted to a solo instrument.

Beat Express - Vol 7- Zaandam. 10" LP. (Op Art - OAMLP 010) More Dutch craziness in the form of Sixties garage beat punk from the small town of Zaandam. Twelve cuts from John Hatton & The Devotions, Coopers, Names & Faces and The Teckels - ranging from raucous group compositions to wild versions of "Iko Iko" and "Didn't I" This lovely series of 10 inch albums is certain to become collectable.

Black Keys - Rubber Factory. CD. (Fat Possum Records - 803792) The legend tells it thus: "Rubber Factory was recorded by the Black Keys themselves in an old tire factory they rented space from in their hometown of Akron, Ohio, also home of Devo, on a reel to reel tape recorder with tape that was recycled from old fried chicken commercial reels that never made it to radio". Whether or not this is true is irrelevant- it makes good copy whatever- but the fact remains that this is a stunning, raw, visceral and dirty rock'n'roll record. Forget all the pretenders to the throne who try and make out how 'garage' they are and drone on about the fact they've just heard Funhouse for the first time, this is as close as one gets to the genuine article in the fashion-obsessed Noughties. Now reissued in a digipak on Fat Possum after years on Epitaph, this album is finally coming home.

Black Sugar - Black Sugar. CD. (Get Back - GET652CD) 1971, the year this Peruvian band released their first LP, was one of turmoil for Peru. The country was three years into the rigid Velasco regime, and throughout the late sixties and early seventies rock concerts were often cancelled and the import of all "Yankee" music was blocked. Though Devout children of the international rock scene, their first LP, released on the Peruvian label Sono Radio, definitely drips with the funky Peruvian rhythms heard on original tracks like the hit "Viajecito" and "Too Late",. Despite the desperate Peruvian economic situation, this album sold all over South America and was even re-released by an American label located in Miami. Excellent guitar and keyboards also define this album along with the talents of Latin percussion king Coco Lagos. CD housed in a mini LP replica sleeve.

Blue Mountain Eagle - Blue Mountain Eagle. CD. (Fallout - FOCD2080) 1970 country tinged acid rock album by the American band that evolved out of The New Buffalo Springfield. The record still displays all the hallmarks of the Buffalo Springfield sound (there is some great fuzzy guitar work with melodic backing vocal harmonies) and in places the album even anticipates some Crazy Horse material! Blue Mountain Eagle were designed to be a country-rock supergroup and deserved to be much bigger, as this great record easily demonstrates.This re-issue comescomplete with both mixes of their sole non-LP 45, making it an obligatory purchase for all Devotees of US psychedelia.

Blue Nile - High. CD. (Sanctuary Records - SANCD285) Scottish band The Blue Nile, named after Alan Moorehead's classic 1962 novel, began their journey at Glasgow University at the turn of the 70s/80s where Paul Buchanan, Robert Bell and PJ Moore were studying. In just under 25 years they have receorded four albums- not exactly prolific but always of assured quality. Celebrity fans include Annie Lennox and Peter Gabriel and the band's songs have been covered by Isaac Hayes, Tom Jones, Melanie C and the Harlem Gospel Singers. Their fourth album 'High' is the strongest Blue Nile album to date, satisfying hardcore fans as well as enveloping a new set of Devotees

Buffseeds - The Picture Show. CD. (Fantastic Plastic - FPCD006) Buffseeds are four musicians from Devon, centred around the stunning vocal talents of young singer-songwriter Kieran Scragg. The Picture Show was produced by Ian Caple (Tindersticks) and mixed by Michael Brauer (Coldplay) and was reviewed by Rocksound magazine as "a stunning collection of lyrical snapshots backed by mournfully beautiful melodies and topped off with Kieran Scragg's unfortgettable vocals. Music to fall in love with". Featured the critically acclaimed UK singles Casino, Sparkle Me and Barricade which was hailed as one of the best singles of the year by NME.

Buzzcocks - Product. 3-CD Set. (EMI - PRODUCT1) Three CD set that brings together the peak period of the Buzzcocks, '76-'80 releases: the albums Another Music In A Different Kitchen, Love Bites, A Different Kind Of Tension, the Best of Singles Going Steady and the live album, Many Parts: Live At The Lyceum. These fifty four tracks manages to almost completely ignore their early Punk past (and the role Howard Devoto played in the group), but it is a joyous listen, filled with heart felt emotion that the ycan't seem to contain.

Buzzcocks - Times Up. CD. (Grey Area - SCRATCH2CD) Recorded in October 1976, this is the sound of the Buzzcocks with the future Magazine singer Howard Devoto as their leader. Without Shelley on lead vocals, their aggressive punk side come to the fore. More reminiscent of the Pistols, this quickly recorded demo collection contains some classic punk songs: "Orgasm Addict", "I Can't Control Myself", "Breakdown" and "I Love You, You Big Dummy." Widely available as a bootleg during the '70s, this is a welcome official edition to the Buzzcocks back catalogue.

Carl Palmer - Do Ya Wanna Play, Carl?- Anthology. Dble CD. (Castle - CMEDD163) The first album of this comprehensive retrospective is Devoted to drummer Carl Palmer's most famous group, ELP. The second covers his percussive subtlety and power, ranging from his appearances on 60s freakbeat classics to cameos from his work with Atomic Rooster, Mike Oldfield, Asia and even jazz maestro Buddy Rich.

Charlie Whitehead - Anthology 1969 - 73. CD. (Kent - CDKEND 261) The name Charlie Whitehead has near-legendary status in R&B collector circles, and this CD is the first-ever compilation Devoted to his work with Swamp. All of it was cut during soul’s golden age, mostly in the American South. And all of it treads a similar path to Swamp’s own trailblazing recordings from the same era, making it a must for anyone who enjoys songs about love, sex, adultery, the folly of American politics, police prejudices, more sex, black-American pride, the stupidity of white supremacy, Blaxploitation movies and, yes, even more sex. Our compilation contains the contents of two whole albums, plus an assortment of rare singles that never made it to LP when first released. Virtually none of these recordings have been reissued on CD before. Kent and the productions of Swamp Dogg are collectively a recipe for success and we’re sure that "Songs To Sing" will waste no time in achieving similar results to our recent CDs by Doris Duke and Irma Thomas, both of which draw largely on the same musical resources.

Chico Hamilton Quintet & Fred Katz - Classical Katz. CD. Chico Hamilton Quintet with cellist Fred Katz were the leading practitioners of chamber jazz, Devoted to a mid-century blend of classical and jazz music that called itself third stream. This is the entire, highly regarded album "Zen" by Katz where he is backed by Hamilton and the Quintet along with the highlights of the Quintet's own 1956 set. Both albums are highly sought after and long out of print.This Hamilton-Katz line-up would feature famously the following year (1957) in the Burt Lancaster-Tony Curtis film "The Sweet Smell Of Success"; a great cinematic moment in jazz.

Claudine Longet - Hello Hello- The Best Of. CD. (Rev Ola - CRREV119) The first ever compilation officially released on CD of the works of possibly the definitive 60s 'chanteuse', the breathy waif with possibly more 'presence' than voice, but who inspired a host of Devotees from Sarah Cracknell through Letitia Sadier to Beth Gibbons, and whose albums- arranged and musically directed by "A&m sound" men De Caro and Lipuma, were lush and ethereal sonic journeys that crossed into the worlds of Jobim, Mancini. . .even Peter Sellers. The songs featured are pretty much the standards of the day- "A Man And A Woman" (as also interpreted by the Free Design) "Both Sides Now" "How Insensitive" "Everybody's Talkin" "Love Is Blue"- but you've never heard them like this before. The songs especially written for Claudine are also, like her entire career, worthy of investigation. A true 'cult' figure who still fascinates.

Forgotten heroes and long dead legends whose names stretch back decades are mentioned, but the main bulk is Devoted to those who shook the country's complacency from 1960 onwards- Sweeney's Men, Horslips, DE Danann, Planxty, Rory Gallagher, Them, Mellow Candle and the near-seminal Anne Briggs, whose work is now being discovered by thousands. Not to mention a detailed chapter on how American heroes such as Bob Dylan and Arlo Guthrie visited the Emerald Isle and took a little of it with them. Cyberdelica - Mali's Ghost. CD. (Inert - INERTCD 002) Debut album (1999) from Devon duo Cyberdelica featuring Steve Young (ex-Sunfish) and Gabe Avalon (ex-Orlog). Seven tracks of spacey trance tekno from a band that have built up a considerable following in the South West of England on the back of this album and their live shows. Dinosaur Jnr - You're Living All Over Me. CD. (Sweet Nothing - SNCD038) Stone-cold classic gets a well deserved reissue. This was one of the most important albums to emerge from the American alternative rock scene in the late 1980s (1987). Full to bursting with incredible pummeling rock and screaming atonal guitar noise work-outs all somehow contained in somewhat accesable song structures, this album creeps up behind you in the middle of the night, whining the future into your ear drums.This is loud psychedelic rock!

Einstürzende Neubauten - Tabula Rasa. Dble CD. (Mute - CDSTUMM156) 1993 release by the German Industrial band. Having moved away from regular album releases and various members Devoting themselves to other groups altogether, this was a welcome return for the group. Concentrating on their ambient side for almost the entire album, the dense, dark tracks feel like a prelude to the eventual explosion that is "Headcleaner", starting the album with a calm ambience and radually cranking up the aggression levels. The second CD has alternate versions and non album singles.

Emerson Lake & Palmer - Love Beach. CD. (Sanctuary Midline - SMRCD079) Two entirely different conceptions of ELP were married on this 1978 studio album. Side One was Devoted to pop songs by Greg Lake and Pete Sinfield (including the ultra-cheesy 'Taste Of My Love') and Side Two to a Keith Emerson epic, "Memoirs Of An Officer And A Gentleman", which inspired one of Lake's finest vocal performances. But as for Side One? Check out the lyrics:"Call for room service, order peaches and cream- I like my dessert first, if you know what I mean!!" Oh dear oh dear oh dear. . . Worth buying for the sleeve ( ! ), the aforementioned 'Memoirs. . .' and the excellently widdly 'Canario'.

(Fat Wreck - FATLP 689) If Debbie Harry and Devo met and fell in love at a punk squat, then plotted to create a hybrid band in their likeness and image, they would be The EPOXIES! Led by the spastically melodic vocals of Roxy Epoxie, the band blends the traditional tools of punk rock (guitar, bass, and drums) with vintage monophonic synthesizers!

Epoxies - Stop The Future. CD. (Fat Wreck Chords - FAT589CD) Fresh from a time when the word on the street was 'futurism' comes a band happily living in the past!!! Portland, Oregon's Epoxies- who dress in vinyl and duct tape- yes, really - recreate the best of the Blondie/Devo/Magazine/Lene Lovich/Split Enz era, mixing 'spastically melodic vocals' (it sez here) with spiky punkola riffage and vintage monophonic synthesisers, creating a sound Blakes' Seven or Buck Rogers would have been proud of. Songtitles include 'Radiation' 'Synthesised' 'Robot Man' and 'Everything Looks Beautiful On Video' so one can see where they're coming from, but the most important thing is that the tunes are actually good!! Recommended.

Eric Burdon - Soul Of A Man. CD. (SPV - SPV78412) The new (2006) release from this legendary rock'n' blues vocalist and archetypal hard-nosed Geordie, the man who fronted both the Animals and War and still performs with as much power as he did in his youth. On this album he Devotes himself to more than a dozen diverse classics from the history of blues, which like all the best interpreters, he has totally reshaped to fit his own muse. The lyrics of Missisippi Fred McDowell's "Red Cross Store" and Howlin Wolf's "Forty Four" have both been expanded and fully Burdonised- and damn fine they sound too. The man just keeps on rocking.

Fairport Convention - The Cropredy Box. 3-CD Set. (Castle - CMETD815) This three-disc set was recorded live in August of 1997 at Fairport Convention's annual Cropredy Festival. Fairport celebrated their 30th year of existence, and this concert was an attempt to chronicle the various periods of the band's storied career by reassembling their most significant line-ups. "The Cropredy Box" will make a prized possession for Fairport Convention's many Devout followers.

FM - Indiscreet/Tough It Out. CD. (B.G.O. Records - BGOCD687) 2fer featuring two strong and classy albums from mid-late 80s Brit AORsters FM, the one band on the scene other than Magnum (and possibly Romeo's Daughter) who had anything vaguely approaching a hit single. Fronted by the charismatic Overland brothers, their sound was the closest a UK band came to the sounds of Journey, Survivor, Night Ranger etc (although their own influences included everything from Split Enz through Zeppelin to blues and soul) and was the UK's brightest AOR hope since the days of City Boy, Charlie, The Babys and Sniff N The Tears. They were also far more Metal than Cutting Crew or Mister Mister had ever been!! Of the two, 'Tough It Out' was the masterpiece- featuring 'Bad Luck' 'Everytime I Think Of You' and a host of other songs with (unfortunately) similar titles to other people's. Sadly, despite mucho acclaim in the rock press, in a climate dominated by LA hair glam and Bay Area Frash (shortly to be themselves superseded by Funk Metal and Grunge) both these albums tanked, and FM never reaped the rewards they deserved- although in retrospect having a 'zany' keyboard player called Didge Digital, who looked like a stray member of Devo that had got lost, didn't help matters either. Nevertheless, these are still two great albums- and now you can discover them for the price of one digitally remastered disc, complete with slipcase and new liner notes.

Focus - Moving Waves. CD. (Red Bullet - RB 66188) 1971 album from Focus was their second and featured the massive hit "Hocus Pocus" as it's opening track. Side one of the album features the excellent title track but on side two is where the real treasures lie. A full side effectively Devoted to one song "Eruption" allows guitarist Jan Akkerman and keyboard wizard Thijs Van Leer to show their virtuosity. A classic album.

Fraser & DeBolt - Fraser & DeBolt. CD. (Fallout - FOCD2060) This beautiful collection of Canadian folk-psych swiftly came and went in 1971, but has since acquired a Devoted cult following. A haunting set of self-penned tunes set to esoteric arrangements featuring gloriously unpredictable fiddle-playing, it makes its long-overdue CD debut here and is sure to delight fans of the Incredible String Band and the Holy Modal Rounders, as well as more recent acts like Devendra Banhart and Joanna Newsom.

Gil Mantera's Party Dream - Bloodsongs. CD. (Fat Possum/Audio Eagle - FP10292) Known for their live shows, Gil Mantera''s Party Dream demands an audience's attention. Formed in Youngstown, Ohio, they show their talent for creating dance-worthy synth melodies on this, their debut album. With elements of Kraftwerk and Devo, Party Dream sound paradoxically at times both retro and futuristic. Like watching the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey in 2005. Allegedly, their live shows are just as confusing. . .

Gleemen - Gleemen. CD. (Mellow Records - MMP168) 1970 album from the group that went on to became the incredible "Garybaldi" and featured all the same members including guitarist extodinaire and Hendrix Devotee Bambi Fossatti. Italian progressive music heavily influenced by 1960s psychedelic blues guitar work, this is funky stuff with some killer hammond keyboards and some impressive psychedelic jamming in the wild Hendrix style. Capable of wild, uptempo rhytms followed by morose, doom laden organ-led rock and even the odd weird experimental track heavy on the weird studio effects and difficult guitar work. References to Hendrix, Iron Butterfly or Black Sabbath would certainly not be out of line and an influence on the developing Italian music scene is evident in abundance.

Goldblade - The Power Of Rock N Roll. DVD. (Cherry Red - CRDVD130) The first ever DVD to feature one of the most energetic and raw live bands on the UK rock scene -Goldblade.Goldblade was formed by notorious music journalist and media commentator John Robb in 1994,following the demise of his previous band, punk legends The Membranes.In 1996 they released the "Soul Power" E.P. to widespread critical acclaim and unleashed theirscorching live act across the country. Follow up single "Strictly Hardcore" dented the national chart andthe band began touring across Europe, building a substantial fan base.Three years later the single "Hairstyle" was made single of the week by the Radio One breakfast showand the band performed on national Saturday morning TV show SMTV.Goldblade continue to tour around the world to their Devoted fan base."Testify!" features a full set from the band in Blackpool, England 2005 along with promo videos for five oftheir single releases and other bonus footage courtesy of John Robb's archive.

(Kent Soul - CDKEND 249) First ever time on CD for many tracks from the GWP label (Gerard W Purcell being the man in question), New York's specialist outlet for soul aficionados. Collectors will know name such as Debbie Taylor, The Persians, and The Hesitations- but here are also featured several choice cuts from artists even more obscure and thus ripe for discovery- Little Rose Little, The Shaladons, The Devonnes, Joan Bates and Lily Fields. Essential early 60s soul from a lable whose story has not been told often enough.

Harold Burrage - Messed Up (the Complete Cobra Recordings 1956-58). CD. (Westside - WESM634) First ever CD Devoted solely to the great rockin' and cool bluesin' Cobra recordings by one of the unsung pioneers of Chicago Blues n' Soul. This is the ultimate collection of his work and a fine testament to a late great R n' B hero.

Heron - Black Dog. CD. (Hux Records - HUXO66) Heron originally formed in England in 1968 and have since been described as one of the most collectable bands around, with their original vinyl albums now fetching upwards of £150.Thirty years after their original formation, Heron recorded this new album in the village of Black Dog in Devon, England. As keyboardist Steve Jones put it, "reliving our past but bringing it up to date". The band has retained its unmistakably English sound and the songs are as unique as ever; still as relevant today as they were 30 years ago. Like many of their earlier albums, this was recorded outdoors and has a unique musical style of simple, pastoral, folk-rock, with a gentle, ‘English summers day’ feel. Howard Devoto - Jerky Versions Of The Dream. CD. (Virgin America - CDVR 2272) Howard Devoto was on the cutting edge of British post-punk rock during the late '70s and '80s. A founding member of new wave/pop band Buzzcocks, Devoto went on to form similar-minded bands Magazine and Luxuria. "Jerky Versions Of The Dream", his debut solo album, was released in July 1983. Recorded with ex-Magazine members Dave Formula and Barry Adamson, it was a pop album - of sorts. On the surface the melodies were upbeat and the music funky, but Devoto was searching, inward looking, sloughing off the past. Now digitally remastered, it includes tracks from the original 7" of 'Rainy Season', an extended version of 'Cold Imagination' and three Peel Session tracks.

Humblebums - Please Sing A Song For Us- The Complete Humblebums, 1969-70. Dble CD. (Castle - CMDDD1211) The entire recorded output of this Scots act anthologised on 2CDs, also featuring nine unreleased bonus tracks from a Peel session. The 'Bums are of course of major interest to many people because they were the band in which superstar comedian and actor Billy Connolly made his first impact, and of course as his introductions got longer and the time Devoted to Gerry Rafferty and Tam Harvey's compositions (both walked out in succession between 1970 and 1971) got shorter, it became obvious that comedy rather than music was going to be the Yin's path. What makes these recordings so interesting is the synthesis and juxtaposition between ribald comedy, traditional Scots folk and finely crafted Beatlesque pop, something that Rafferty would go on to perfect with Stealers Wheel and eventually on his million-selling 'City To City' album. It's as fascinating to hear Connolly playing it straight in places (as, to give him credit, he did on early solo albums) as it is to hear Rafferty coping with comedy, and in songs such as 'Saltcoats At The Fair' 'Partick' 'Silk Pyjamas' 'Open Up The Door' and 'Her Father Didn't Like Me Anyway' they just about manage to pull the two genres as close together as they ever have been. Outtakes from their unfinished third album are also included- get RIGHT intae it!!

Ian Matthews - I Can't Fade Away- Ian Matthews Live. DVD. (Cherry Red DVDs - CRDVD119) The first ever DVD to fature the former Fairport Convention, Southern Comfort, Hi Fi and Plainsong frontman delivering what he does best- a set full of quality folk and country-based rock, albeit here presented in its somewhat synthesised 80s form as he dazzles a Devoted audience at the Marquee in 1984. Still worth watching though!! Region 0 PAL.

Ian Tyson - Old Corrals And Sagebrush. CD. (Vanguard Masters - VMD151) Tyson's third solo outing, which marked his return to recording after a three year layoff while he concentrated on his ranch. This reissue includes, as a bonus, all but three tracks of his eponymous follow up from 1984. It was Tyson's first album to be entirely Devoted to Western songs and contains a mixture of traditional and new Full length midprice reissue. material.

Ibrahim Ferrer - Mi Sueno. CD. (World Circuit - WCD077) The last album made by the late, great Cuban singer. Having left the album unfinished before his death in 2005, the demos for the final few tracks were temporarily lost. Happily the task has been completed as this was the 78 year old's dream album, a set of songs completely Devoted to the most meltingly romantic of all Cuban styles, the bolero. All Ferrer fans will be glad to know that this isn't a cut and paste job of an album, where random tracks from various sources have been pulled together to get the limited material out into public domain; it was constructed with the aid of a letter that Ferrer had transcribed for him on his death bed. It stands as a more than fitting monument to a truly legendary Cuban singer.

Jake Thackray With Alan Wiliams Vol 1 - Live At The Lobster Pot. CD. (Lobster Pot - LPOT1) Absolutely wonderful- an all too rare example of the beauty that was Jake Thackray live, in his favourite surroundings- a small intimate country pub. This country pub in question, the Lobster Pot in Instow, Devon, played host to Jake's genius on November 25 1975, and now they have released, on their own label if you please, this excellent CD, which features over 50 minutes of music and banter. Includes 'The Castleford Ladies Magic Circle' and 'One Eyed Isaac' . Nobody's collection should be without it.

Jake Thackray With Alan Williams - Live At The Lobster Pot Vol 2. CD. (Lobster Pot - LPOT2) The second half of that great Devon concert recorded in 1975 by the 'Yorkshire Noel Coward' - who in his life influenced artists as diverse as Morrissey and Jasper Carrott- and accomplished accompanist, Alan Williams. This is the more highly sought after of the two, as it contains the more ribald elements of Jake's repertoire such as 'Sister Josephine' 'The Poor Sod' 'On Again On Again!' and the immortal 'Bantam Cock' which many guitar-toting comedians have incorporated into their repertoire since. Absolutely essential stuff for folk or comedy lovers everywhere- in the 30 years (at time of writing) since its recording, the humour and melody inherent in these songs have matured like the finest wine. Something to warm oneself with on a cold night.

James Grant - Holy Love. CD. (Vertical - VRTCD009) The former frontman of Friends Again and Love And Money opens a new era in his career with this fourth solo album. After a period Devoted to eclectic outside projects, he has returned to the well-crafted and superbly delivered songs that have always been his trademark. Holy Love confirms Grant as a singer and songwriter for the ages.

Jeff Saphin - This. CD. (Parallel World - PW CD 5) New Yorker Saphin's debut solo album sounds very much like early '70s David "Ziggy" Bowie, both vocally and in the depths of sophistication in the songs themselves. Mixing neo-psych, electronica and even Devotional chants, this is a self-assured collection of songs that grows on you with each listen.....

Jobriath - Lonely Planet Boy. CD. (Attack - ATKCD010) Outrageous and ferociously talented, he should have been the ultimate glam superstar, but instead Jobriath became the butt of endless media jokes. Amongst those who heard his records, though, his name inspired Devotion - not least from Morrissey, who has used his new Attack imprint to rekindle the legend, compiling and annotating this compilation himself. Second time around, is the world finally ready for the late great Jobriath?

Joe Meek & The Blue Men - I Hear A New World. CD. (RPM - RPM502) In the growing world of Meek collectors this album stands as the most fascinating. Recorded in 1960 the album was inspired by Meeks own fascination with outer space and much of the album is Devoted to 'other world' sound effects. Used to their full extent on what must be one of the earliest stereo recordings of its type and almost certainly the first concept album ever. Now you know who to blame for prog!! This album is growing in status as tracks have been recently compiled and sampled by '90s artists... Only 99 copies originally pressed on vinyl!

Joe Simon - Monument Of Soul. CD. (RPM Shout! - RPMSH222) An overview of the golden era of this monumental singer who bridged the gap between soul and country, and in doing so maybe even the barriers betwixt black and white music!! Seen as a natural successor to Otis Redding, but with enough country influence to make him want to record in Nashville with Scotty Moore on guitar, the result was that he became one of the few artists to appear on both charts AND cross over into the mainstream with Billboard Top 40 hits!! John Lennon & The Plastic Ono Band - Live Peace In Toronto. LP. (Apple - 3362NC) Original US pressing of this 1969 album recorded one month after the Abbey Road sessions.This is a noisy, glorified garage band styled live album and Lennon is in fine vocal form.Great versions of 'Yer Blues', 'Cold Turkey' and a whole host of rock 'n' roll songs while side 2 is Devoted to Yoko's 'Don't Worry Kyoko' and feedback.

John Martyn/Danny Thompson/Arran Ahmun - The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal 1986. CD. (Cadiz/One World - OW115CD) Live recording of one of Martyn's most inspired performances, featuring regular contributor Danny Thompson and immensely talented drummer/percussionist Arran Ahmun, recorded in a Northern theatre- just the kind of place one would expect to find such a gig. This was the first time Martyn had picked up an acoustic guitar since the track 'Lookin' On' on "Grace And Danger", and he was determined to have a ball with it. You can hear the joy emanating from every note he plays and sings, the setlist is Devoid of cliché and delves right into his catalogue, and the percussion of Ahmun adds entirely new twists to familiar material.

John Mayall - Rockin' The Roadshow. Dble CD. (Castle - CMDDD639) Besides unearthing an apparently endless stream of 60s guitar heroes, John Mayall has Devoted more than 40 years to chronicling every imaginable variation of the blues on record. This double-CD spotlights two of his more overlooked golden eras, bringing together live cuts from his jazz-rock experiments at the start of the 70s, and pure blues from his equally fine 1981 band.

John Renbourn - The Hermit. CD. (Castle - CMRCD990) Originally issued in 1976, The Hermit was inspired by Renbourn’s insular existence in the Devon countryside. The folk guitar genius mixed new compositions with traditional tunes, being joined by John James for the closing Elizabethan epic, ‘Lord Willoughby’s Welcome Home’. Bonus tracks include several tunes from the highly collectable KPM album, The Guitar Of John Renbourn.

Criminally unknown by the majority of music lovers Haino has been quietly (and very very loudly) revolutionising rock for a few Devout fans for the past 3 decades and he isn't going to stop now!! Dense and chaotic, few can match his intensity and this 2004 album looks set to return the man to his black roots and really 'remove all the colour'. Long improvised pieces for guitar and overdubbed vocals make this heady trip into the dark unmissable; get ready for music so dense it can stand up straight, look you in the eye then knock you out. Keith Emerson - The Christmas Album. CD. (Shellshock - AMPCD018) What do this man, Jethro Tull, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Gordon Giltrap, The Moody Blues, Tiny Tim and Brian Wilson have in common? That's right, they have all released Christmas albums!! Sadly not as great as Spector, or even Philthy Phil and Fast Eddie's "Naughty Santa's Christmas Classics" (well, what is?) this is nevertheless an entertaining jaunt as the king of keyboard widdly takes us through the likes of 'O little Town Of Bethlehem' 'We Three Kings' 'It Came Upon A Midnight Clear' several Devotional classical pieces by Bach etc and Profokiev's "Troika", better known to many as "I Believe In Father Christmas" Budget price reissue, just in time for Crimblieplops. Deck the halls with boughs of prog.

King Crimson - Happy With What You Have To Be Happy With. CD EP. (Sanctuary Records - SANEP123) This new EP,(11 tracks) introduces two momentous new tracks from the forthcoming album along with samples from classic Crimson material, and is craftily fastened together with haunting haikus.There is also a hidden track to intrigue Crimson Devotees.

Larry Willis - Inner Crisis. LP. (Groove Merchant - GM514) One of the finest Jazz funk records ever made 1973 release Inner Crisis was created by this avant-gardist and Devotee of Herbie Hancock. Larry Willis learned his talents to free jazz, fusion and hard bop as a virtuoso piano player. Ths record captures him and his ensemble laying down some long intense compositions, tight on the groove and deep with soul and blues resonances.

Limonada - Limonada. CD. (Lion Music - LION606) The story of this band starts with the end of the band El Kinto, when leader Eduardo Mateo decided to embark on a solo career while the others started Limonada. This is the only album they recorded, originally recorded in 1970. It is a strange record with backwards tape slices, abrupt song changes, yet in the same time it is very accessible and very groovy. It is a profound mystery how it has vanished from the consciousness of even the most Devoted fans of obscure music. This carefully researched reissue is supplemented with an extra live bonus track. The 16-page booklet includes a historical background on the Uruguayan scene, details of the band's past.

Looking For Europe - The Neofolk Compendium (Various). 4-CD Set. (Auerbach - AB013) An introduction to what may be music's best kept secret- certainly nothing one will read about in the UK music press!! Released to accompany the book of the same name, this four CD set is a fascinating investigation into the world of a folk music that evolved originally out of the Goth, Industrial and DIY punk scenes of the early to mid-80s, but then reached back further to the primeval origins of true European music. Often criticised by the effete far left for what they believe are 'flirtations with right-wing imagery' (although to be honest bands like Death In June, Der Blutharsch and Fire And Ice do slightly more than just flirt with it) and a bone of contention with regard to free speech and censorship, the works of these bands - also including Rose McDowall's Sorrow, Tony Wakeford's misunderstood Sol Invictus (far more 'Eurocentric' and based in olde ghoste storye imagery than anything vaguely right wing), Blood Axis, In Gowan Ring, Hagalaz Runedance (actually based around the girlfriend of a member of Emperor) and Ain Soph (not the 70s band) have produced, regardless of one's opinions, some staggeringly beautiful music, possibly the only song-based music left that is Devoid of any American influence- although Americans like Boyd Rice are just as important to the scene's development. In this strange netherworld, traditional folk singers like Andrew King, who collects from the archives of Cecil Sharp, rub shoulders with clanking industrialists like Genesis P Orridge, Laibach and Test Department, as well as the works of those who influenced them such as Scott Walker, Nico, Paul Giovanni's Magnet and even The Strawbs. This exceedingly lavish gold-embossed and clothbound box set, released here seperately from the book, features a 100-page booklet of its own, which includes liner notes and much information on the artists involved. Several of the tracks here are previously unreleased- making it an even more fascinating purchase.

Magazine - Correct Use Of Soap. CD. (EMI - CDVR 2156) The Art Punk's last album with guitarist John Mcgeoch. Notably it is more of an upbeat album than their first two efforts, the icy keyboards take more of a backseat and the band take equal billing. Their brilliant dynamics (something that grew steadily with each release) allow Devoto to include relatively optimistic yet biting lyrics about bad relationships and distrust in general. Another high quality release, digitally remastered. Bonus tracks: "Twenty Years Ago", "The Book", "Upside Down" and "The Light Pours Out Of Me (Single Version)."

Magazine - Real Life. CD. (EMI - CDVR 2100) Debut album by the band put together by former Buzzcock Howard Devoto with Bary Adamson (Visage, Bad Seeds) and John McGeoch (Public Image Ltd / Siouxie & The Banshees). Released in 1978, it is the cornerstone of the post punk scene. Notably more arty than Devoto's former band, John Leckie producers these bleak, keyboard drenched and highly unpredictable songs. Highly influential amongst the more art college groups of Brit Pop and the current trend of guitar groups, this is a brilliant example of a group setting out it's store on their very first attempt. Digitally remastered with four bonus tracks: "Shot By Both Sides (Alternative Recording)", "My Mind Ain't So Open", "Touch And Go" and "Goldfinger."

Magazine - Secondhand Daylight. CD. (EMI - CDVR 2121) The four piece, now featuring Jon Doyle on drums take a big step forward from their debut a year earlier, digitally remastered with additional tracks for it's 2007 release. This 1979 album doubles the tension, with the taught rhythm section helped by Barry Adamson's melodic bass coming to the fore and Doyl's hyperactic playing backing the icy keyboards now at the front of the mix. The muddled sound that was present on Real Life isn't present on this release, Colin Thurstons clean production lets the constantly improving musicianship shine through. As ever, Devoto's lyrics revolve around relationship breakdowns and the odd cryptic line here or there. This is bleak essential post punk, the sound of a group raising their game as a unit. Bonus tracks: "Give Me Everything", "I Love You You Big Dummy", "Rhythm Of Cruelty (7" version)" and "TV Baby."

Man - Live At The Roundhouse. DVD. (Voiceprint - VPDVD 36) Live performance filmed at the Roundhouse in 1976, this DVD features highlights from their three day tenure plus interviews with the band, their manager and even the hard working put upon road crew. The band are in top form but lets face it when were they not in top form? In addition to the informative and hugely enlightening interviews the band perform some classic Man material including: "Born With A Future", "Bananas" and "Babe Im Gonna Leave You." This fascinating documentary has rarely been seen since the original film was broadcast in the late seventies and as such will be highly anticipated by the large and Devoted fan base still commanded by Man and as such gives a great insight into what the band were all about during their seventies heyday. Man Or Astroman? - Your Weight On The Moon. CD. (One Louder - LOUDEST 4) US crazies Man Or Astroman? have been together since 1992 perfecting their own brand of space-age surf. This ten track CD was originally recorded in 1994 and is widely regarded as their best work. Kind of like a mutant hybrid of Devo, Dick Dale and the Rezillos. Tracks include "Electrostatic Brain Field", "F=GmM(moon)/r2" and "Destination Venus".

Marc Almond - A Lover Spurned (Live At The Astoria). DVD. (Cherry Red DVDs - CRDVD012) The second in our Marc Almond DVD series sees the great man back on home soil, performing to a Devoted fanbase at London's famous Astoria club. Another classic performance captures Marc at the height of his late eighties solo success, backed by a full band as he runs through his repertoire. Many Marc Almond and Soft Cell hits are featured in the performance, including "Stories Of Johnny", "Tears Run Rings" and "Mother Fist". The DVD also features three bonus tracks, including the number one hit "Something's Gotten Hold Of My Heart", taken from the matinee performance at the Berlin show featured in the first Marc Almond DVD release. The matinee material is extremely rare and a real treat for all die-hard Marc Almond fans.

Marcie Blane - Bobby's Girl - The Complete Seville Recordings. CD. (President - PRCD 159) This quiet and publicity shy 18 year old teen queen owned the radio during the tail-end of 1962 with her Top Ten super hit Bobby's Girl, it's one of the most enduring teen hit's of the time and is still as recognisable today thanks to countless compilations of 60s radio hits. However, this is the first time that Marcie Blane has ever had a compilation Devoted to her alone and it's chock full of unissued demos, hard-to-find releases, mono and stereo versions of Bobby's Girl, all of her singles, two foreign language versions: ever thing an all encompassing anthology should include and more. Also features annotation by Mick Patrick, rare photos and memorabilia. Reluctant "One Hit Wonder" or not, Femme Pop fans will no doubt need no encouragement to snap up this long-awaited release.

Mellow Cats & Kittens - Various. CD. (Ace Records - CDCHD 1022) The first volume in short series Devoted to the post-WWII West coast R&B scene as captured on wax by Modern Records of Los Angeles. A spiritual successor of Ace’s old vinyl California Jump Blues package of more than 20 years ago, this features many of the biggest names to emerge from the musical hotbed of activity that was L.A.’s Central Avenue in the late 1940s and early 1950s several of whom went on to become bonafide blues and R&B legends.Almost all of these tracks have been transferred from the original Modern acetates you and your customers will be hearing them exactly as they were recorded.Only six of these 24 recordings were issued at the time of recording, and of the 18 unissued sides, 13 have never been issued in any shape or form before.

Merrell Fankhauser - Maui Days In Paradise. CD. (Subliminal Sounds - SUBXMCD3) The band MU was formed in 1969 when Merrell Fankhauser teamed up with Jeff Cotton of Captain Beefhearts band. When it was discovered that the Hawaiian Islands could have remnants of the sunken Mu civilization, the band decided to move to the island of Maui. But by 1974 all but Merrell Fankhauser had left for the mainland. Merrell was now staying with his girlfriend violinist Mary Lee in the two story Tarzan style jungle house which Merrell had built, complete with flowing lily ponds. They did a special Black Crow ceremony with 400 Devoted hippies all meditating for peace and harmony for all beings on the earth. Merrell and Mary were the first musicians in the United States to play modern music for the Lama. They lived in the Maui rain forest in their jungle retreat for over seven years. Late in 1975 they visited L.A and recorded the Maui Album. The album recording originally started at MCA Studios in Hollywood with producer Dino Airelli who went on to head up Dark Horse Records for George Harrison. Due to Dinos busy schedule he was unable to finish the album. It was later finished in San Francisco and came out on a small independent label Maui Music. It sold a few thousand copies and disappeared. The album is released here in its entirety with 7 bonus tracks including an unreleased version of "Some Of Them Escaped". This is a true artefact from the Hippy dream of Peace, Love and Harmony for the world!

Middlesbrough F.C. - Boro Songs - The Sound Of The Riverside. CD. (Cherry Red Football - CDGAFFER46) Despite indefferrent premiership form, Middlesbrough retain a loyal and Devoted following, this second tribute albums bears witness to this fact. Featured tracks are "Reach Up", "O Fortuna" and "Hot Hot Hot" with contributions from Brian Clough and Viv Anderson as well as a history of Middlesbrough FC by Graham Cox.

Mike Berry - Don't You Think It's Time: R&R Hits From The 60s & 70s. Dble CD. (Castle - CMEDD811) In the hands of two classic producers, Joe Meek in the 60s and Miki Dallon in the 70s, Mike Berry forged an individual brand of British rock’n’roll. This anthology Devotes an album apiece to each era, with the Meek sessions featuring hits such as ‘Tribute To Buddy Holly’ and ‘It’s Just A Matter Of Time’, and the mid-70s tracks including a sheaf of Holly oldies. This first volume is an ultra rare collection of funky, vintage European instrumental soul and psych blasters from the archives of the De Wolfe Sound Library from the late 60's and early n70's. Situated in London, the fifty yeat old business provides soundtrack material to film, video and television commercials (famous credits include incidental music on Brokeback Mountain, the Monty Python records and numerous Hip Hop records). This mighty fine collection cherry picks from their golden era in the '60's and '70's and contains plenty of hard hitting grooves from swinging London featuring legendary composers/producers like Nick Ingham,Alan Parker,Keith Papworth and many more..

Natas (Los) - Toba-Trance II. CD. (Ektro Records - EKTRO 025) Mind blowing 2003 album from the awesome Los Natas. Not content with producing "the" essential stoner rock album of the year, the boys from Argentina have unleased this monster upon the world. A sequel of sorts, Toba-Trance II digs deep into the ethnic roots of stoner rock to produce a folk tinged masterpiece of groovy heaviness. This is experimental rock that is surprisingly humble and Devoid of pretension, immersed in an atomsphere of ancient ritual and hidden ancestory it will work its way in to your head and stubbornly bed down for eternity. Also features some incredibly beautiful artwork which perfectly complements the artistic achievements of the music. Highly recommended.

Owned and operated by the Tokens ("The Lion Sleeps Tonight"), BT Puppy had it's fair share of brilliant oddities from its original golden era (1963-1971) and Rev-Ola leaves no stone unturned!

Nihil Project (Blossom Toes) - Plough Plays. CDR. Nihil Project is an 2006 open collective Devoted to psychedelia, musical experimentation and artistic avantgarde who have released two albums to date. They are based on a core duo of Antonello Cresti and Andrea Gianessi from Italy. They collaborate with a number of musicians from Britain such as the ex Blossom Toes Brian Godding, Sedayne, The Anvil, Gav Dunn, The Kitchen Cynics, Orph and LSD from Electronic Voice Phenomena and Simon Lewis of The Phoenix Cube. On this album they focus on British folk music and folklore interweaving their own songs and lyrics with traditional sources. Their music is based on folk but is deeply psychedelic and also incorporates space electronics.

Featuring Claude Engel (who went on to form Magma), this is prototype French heavy progressive rock with acoustic interludes. There's some mean acid guitar work with flute garnish and side two is Devoted to one long live track based on a Rimbaud poem. Only 1000 albums were pressed on initial release making this a rare and welcome issue. Beautiful mini gatefold sleeve card package.

Described by songwriter/leader Matthew Smith as 'a space opera of sorts like Harry Nilsson with Hawkwind as the back-up group' the band cross'70s AM radio pop with a heavier, reverbed late '60's acid space rock vibe at times recalling early Pink Floyd and The Velvet Underground. Pat Benatar - Live - The Summer Vacation Tour. DVD. (Cherry Red DVDs - CRDVD66) Four-time Grammy winner and certified rock'n'roll superstar Pat Benatar has been touring the states with her husband / musical partner Neil Giraldo every summer for the past 10 years. Taking their band to crowds packed with enthusiastic Benatar Devotees and on one occasion a film crew. This DVD features a full ninety minute show from the 2001 tour and includes stunning live covers of Pat's many hit songs. Also included are interviews with Pat and Neil covering their career highlights and love of touring.

Poets - Surrealistic Rain. LP. (Teen Sound - TEENS23) An Italian band strongly influenced by pop icons as the Beatles and lots of other 60s bands without copying them. Their style is distinctly beat inspired, more than any other band today, they're are young, talented, classy and truly Devoted to the vibes of 60s pop. Since their debut "When you were by my side' they've become more psychedelic, using unexpected sound sources like viola, electric piano and hammond organ. Porcupine Tree - Moonloop - (plus Signed Catalogue And Certificate). Book. (Delerium Records - DELEC CD 999) Moonloop was not only the last ever release on The Delerium label by Porcupine Tree (due to the fact that catalogue has moved to Snapper) but also the last release on the label. Here are the remaining 10 copies of the second and final pressing of Moonloop, all numbered with a certificate signed by Delerium Records founder Richard Allen and a signed copy of the rare colour Delerium catalogue (with a page Devoted to Porcupine Tree) . This second edition of Moonloop was an exact reproduction of the original 500 fanclub edition and only 1000 were made. This second edition was also been remastered by Steven Wilson and sounds better than ever. Moonloop is the final piece of The Delerium Years puzzle and is a long spacey, psychedelic improvisation of over forty minutes in length recorded during the session for the Sky Moves Sideways. Moonloop is regarded as the holy grail for fans of Porcupine Tree's space rock era. This re-pressing duplicates the dark purple PVC, screen printed bag of the original but features a new catalogue number (DELEC CD 999).

Projectiles - Hanging Out With. LP. (Screaming Apple - SCALP 156) Real late 80s teen-punk masterpiece by one of the East-coast's best kept secrets, which was supposed to be released on Voxx, never saw the light of day and it is a real shame as it is certainly one of the highlights of the 80s garage revival. They came from Rochester, NY, and were were totally Devoted to all the mindblowing garage-punk sounds of the 60s.This whole album filled with incredible organ-drenched, fuzz-punk jewels you need to hear to believe it. Their originals couldve been taken from any of those classic 60s punk comps and their well chosen cover versions just simply blow you away in all their authenticity.

Psycho Mania! - Various. DVD. (Cherry Red DVDs - CRDVD128) Psychomania features three of the biggest and best names to emerge from the Psychobilly scene, performing at the legendary "Night Of The Long Knives" Psychobilly festival in Birmingham, England in 1988 - and together for the first time on DVD. The Quakes are one of the best-known U.S. Psychobilly acts and gained a large and Devoted European following during the late 1980's. The band has continued playing until the present - influencing the scene in their native USA, throughout Europe and in Japan and touring all three continents. Their popularity in the Far East even resulted in a major label deal with Sony. Skitzo are one of the most successful acts from the UK scene and made a massive impact at the time of this performance. Skitzo released two albums - 'Skitzo Mania' and 'Terminal Damage' - and quickly became a major band on the scene, particularly in London where they were based. The rumours of a Skitzo reunion regularly circulate and their popularity remains undiminished. The Klingonz hold a reputation as one of the most visually exciting bands on the scene and are still gigging to the present day. The band appeal to the wackier side of Psychobilly, taking all of its elements to the extreme. Crazier in appearance with bizarre hair-cuts, more offensive songs, and playing faster than their contemporaries, they made a huge impact with their insane performances and album releases which boasted titles like 'Mongo', 'Flange', 'Jabot' and 'Bollix'. And the hardy band of collectors who Devote their lives to the Eurovision phenomenon have never seen anything like this album. It¹s a rich collection of the contest¹s hits and misses, including a surprising batch of songs from the likes of the Tremeloes and Petula Clark which never even made it beyond the qualifying round. And what better place to start than with Sandie Shaw¹s 1967 winner, ‘Puppet On A String’.

Rain - Live, Christmas Night. CD. (Radioactive - RRCD110) Another custom-pressed rarity to delight and amaze, this time from the New York outfit, Rain which appeared in 1971 on the Whazoo label (USR3046). So rare that even average copies are fetching up to $500. The lads assembled a cohort of their chums, clearly awash with Christmas spirit, to cheer them through a selection of Stones (and other's) covers. As one Rain Devotee recently enthused, "Anyone for this one helluva rawkin' gem! These guys sound like the Rolling Stones on crack. The vocalist has Jagger down to a T, the only real difference here...they really do turn the amps up to 11. But as for the music....it's jammy and twice as better [sic] than anything the Stones could ever conjure". So there you have it. Ignore this album at your peril! Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST THREE COPIES.

(Sire - 6070) 1981 release that was The Ramones' cult classic movie was a great album that includeed Ramones songs "I Want You Abound," "Come On Let's Go" (with the Paley Brothers), "Rock 'n' Roll High School" and a brilliant medley that featured "Blitzkrieg Bop," "Teenage Lobotomy," "California Sun," "Pinhead" and "She's the One".The soundtrack also includes songs by Nick Lowe,Devo , Chuck Berry and Eddie and the Hot Rods.Brilliant stuff

Randy Bachman - Survivor. CD. (Lemon - CDLEM65) Never before released on CD- and largely unavailable since 1983, Bachman's third solo album, the title track of which is an in-concert favourite, will appeal to his large solo fanbase as well as Devotees of BTO and the Guess Who. All original artwork is included, plus extensive sleevenotes, and the album has been digitally remastered. Rockin' stuff.

Rangers F.C. - Blue Anthems - The Sound Of Ibrox. CD. (Cherry Red Football - CDGAFFER44) Follow-up to the highly successful "Ibrox Anthems", this is a 17 track cracker of a football compilation Devoted to the blue half of Glasgow. Remember Knebworth 1978 - Various. DVD. (Voiceprint - VPDVD42) This film chronicles the 1978 concert at Knebworth which featured British Band Genesis as headliners. Slim Smith & The Uniques - The Best Of The Uniques 1967-1969. CD. (Trojan - CDTRL340) One of the greatest of the early reggae singers, Slim Smith found his biggest success from 1965 until his untimely death in 1973 (at the age of 25). This compilation covers his most creative era and includes classic cuts like "Love And Devotion", Buffalo Springfield's "Watch This Sound (For What It's Worth), "People Rocksteady" and twenty one others.

Snowy White - The Way It Is Live. DVD. (Voiceprint - VPDVD12) DVD filmed on Snowy's March 2004 tour, featuring no Lizzy material and not even 'Bird Of Paradise' (shock horror!!) but plenty of bluesy originals and one or two Peter Green and Hendrix tunes. There's also plenty of unseen footage, and the atmosphere largely derives from seeing the man's Devoted audience lap up the material with all the enthusiasm one would expect. Not to mention of course the musicianship: as well as Snowy himself, regular sidemen Richard Bailey and Kuma Harada are on top form. Initial copies come as a double package containing also a bonus CD of the concert. NTSC Region 0 disc.

Soft Machine - Third. Dble LP. The Soft Machine plunged deeper into jazz and contemporary electronic music on this pivotal release from 1970. Long,long tracks as each side is Devoted to one composition. The group were given substantial help from a number of backup musicians, including Canterbury mainstays Elton Dean and Jimmy Hastings. Exact repro in a gatefold sleeve.

Straight Outta Burbank - Various. Dble CD. (Bomp - BCD4073CD) Bomp! was, in addition to being a pioneering historical-savvy rock fanzine in the 1970s, a label that put out some notable early punk singles, and (with its AIP and Voxx subsidiaries) reissued tons and tons of '60s garage/punk. In the 1980s and 1990s most of its contemporary releases were in the psych/pop/punk/garage revival mode. It is fair to say that this two-CD, 45-song compilation does not represent the label at its very best. Disc one is entirely Devoted to material from Bomp! and its Voxx subsidiary, mixing vintage late-1970s cuts by The Dead Boys, Barracudas, Iggy & The Stooges, The Weirdos, The Germs, The Dils, DMZ, and The Heartbreakers with a mish-mash of more recent releases some from as late as the late '90s by The Brian Jonestown Massacre and several names that are obscure even by indie standards.

Sultans Of Ping - U Talk Too Much - Sultans Of Ping. DVD. (Cherry Red DVDs - CRDVD145) 2005 live reunion of this ever popular Irish band. Having released numerous cult hits and UK top 30 albums during the early '90's, the group split. This gig took place in their home town due to their rabid Devoted fans demanding more from them. Twenty tracks including: "Japanese Girls", "Wake Up And Scratch Me", "Two Pints Of Rasa" and "Back In A Tracksuit."

Superimposers - Superimposers. CD. The Superimposers are a very impressive UK act who launch themselves on a soon-to-be Devoted public with a collection of tracks from limited 45s released without fuss over the last 18 months, plus a pair of new songs. The bands sound ranges from the influence of 60's golden nuggets like the Left Banke, to Gene Clark fronting Spiritualised, or faultless summer pop echoing Lee Hazlewood, or the Prunes starring in a tripped out surf movie. Throw in elements of Brian Wilson, Scott Walker etc and you are getting close to the Superimposers irony-free pop soul. This is the closest thing to heaven you’ll hear this year... until their real debut arrives.

Swell Maps - A Trip To Marineville. Dble LP + 7". (Munster Records - MR270) Utter genius from Leamington Spa-based art punk auteurs, fronted by the enigmatic Nikki Sudden (who oversaw this release) and his anarchic, intuitive drumming brother Epic Soundtracks (no, of course it wasn't his real name). Limited edition (1000 copies): contains 180 gram heavy vinyl pressing with tracks added from the sessions that didn't make the original 1979 cut, additional inner jackets with notes from Mr Sudden himself, plus a reproduction of the legendary free 7" EP that includes 'Loin Of The Surf' and 'Doctor At Cake'. Alongside Wire, The Fall, Family Fodder and the Soft Boys, the Maps were the most out-there and psychedelic of all punk and New Wave acts, with a cut-up, "what does this button do" attitude to music that baffled many and inspired many more (Pavement, Sonic Youth, The Wedding Present and Blur are all Devotees) Obviously influenced by art-school prog and Krautrock (hence the Can-referencing 'Don't Throw Ashtrays At Me') but equally by Joe Meek, Syd Barrett, Kevin Ayers, Marc Bolan, local hero Edgar Broughton, This Heat, Beefheart and Zappa, the Maps quite literally ripped up the conventional songwriting rulebook and flung it from a very high Warwickshire window. Hence 'Vertical Slum' 'Midget Submarines' 'Full Moon In My Pocket' and the sublimely titled 'Adventuring Into Basketry'- all lessons in how to make beauty out of absurdity and sheer nonsense. Difficult to believe then, that these (Sudden and Soundtracks) were the same people who a few years later would resurface as The Jacobites and invent the shamelessly retro gypsy-ragamuffin-Stonesy-glam/sleaze style that proliferated throughout Brummie rock in the 80s, ultimately giving birth to the Dogs D'Amour. But in the world of the Maps, nothing makes sense. . .Release of the year (2005) so far!!

This CD includes all of their President cuts including the phased beauty of "Pretty City" plus previously unissued bonus tracks . Tangerine Dream - Detroit - March 31st 1977. Dble CD. (Boot Moon - BOOTMOON008) Detroit ’77 captures the band on one of their most successful tours of America. The band at this time also featured Chris Franke and Peter Baumann alongside Edgar Froese. This recording comes from the tour that sourced performances for the official live Tangerine Dream album release Encore. Where that album sourced performances from different locations this live CD contains the complete performance from Detroit. The Bootmoon series of recordings are a series of limited edition live recordings drawn from the bands official vaults overseen by Edgar Froese. The bands large and Devoted fan base eagerly snapped up the initial batch of recordings and some of these recordings now pass hands for high sums on ebay.

Townes Van Zandt - Acoustic Blue. CD. (Tomato - TOM2087) 'Townes Van Zandt didn't cover songs by many other songwriters. He would dip into a Bob Dylan composition now and then or a Bruce Springsteen or Bo Diddley. His other main inspiration was the great Lightnin' Hopkins, the Houston singer and songwriter who in many ways showed the way musically for what Townes became. These live recordings date primarily from Townes Van Zandt's European tour concerts in 1994 and 1996 but also include a track from a session in Austin, Texas only three weeks before his death. None of these performances have ever been released before and listening to them now, in many ways is a revelation. The sound reinforced and celebrated by the audience's reactions, affirm Towne's amazing bond with his Devoted flock. The Munich audience comes to life with cheers from the first notes of Lungs and you can almost feel the anticipation in the Belfast crowd as he introduces Waitin' Round To Die. In the one track from Austin Nothin Townes is still chopping fierce notes on the guitar and singing tough, but his voice is a little worn and weary sounding defiant but resigned.

Van Der Graaf Generator - Present. Dble CD. (Virgin Records - CDVD 2999) They are back with a brand new 2005 release. CD 1 consists of 6 songs recorded in Peter's studio in North Devon, whilst CD2 consists of 10 instrumental improvisation tracks. Originally formed in 1967, VDGG earned an intense cult following as one of the era's top art-rock groups. Often tagged as being 'prog-rock' (as no-one could quite place them within any specific genre) their inimitable style has been acknowledged as an influence by the likes of too many to mention. Their sound can be described as a fusion between extreme freeform jazz using very tight but complex time signatures along with experimental organ bass pedals, sax, dark lyrics & a unique style of singing by Hammill

Violence Fog / Jerusalem - SWF - Sessions Vol. 6. CD. (SWR/Long Hair - LHC00006) Whereas previous CDs released in the SWF- Sessions were Devoted to one band, Volume 6 here features two. Both bands had their roots in south west Germany. Both formed in 1969 and were exponents powerful kraut / progressive rock with heavy guitars, flute and strings, utilised in a style a typical of the period. All tracks digitally remastered.

Welcome To Collinwood OST (Mark Mothersbaugh) - Various. CD. (Sanctuary Records - SANCD186) Yes, that’s George Clooney playing a veteran safebreaker in this sharp-edged comedy thriller. The soundtrack album may not feature quite so many matinee idols as its accompanying movie, but it does feature a typically eclectic score by one of America’s musical mavericks - Devo stalwart Mark Mothersburg, fresh from his composing work on such diverse projects as Rugrats and Drop Dead Gorgeous.

Young Marble Giants - Live At The Hurrah Club. DVD. (Cherry Red DVDs - CRDVD55) Another first for DVD, this time we bring you the fantastic Young Marble Giants. Young Marble Giants formed in 1979 and were a three-piece from Cardiff, Wales consisting of Stuart Moxham (guitars, keyboards), his brother Phil (bass), and Alison Statton (voice). Their recording career lasted only two years but they garnered a loyal and Devoted fan base that still exists to this day. They recorded one classic album, 'Colossal Youth', for Rough Trade Records and performed two short tours of Europe and the U.S. in 1980. On their return from the U.S. tensions in the band led to their split.The name and legend of the band has continued to flourish, with websites devoted to them and recent releases of rare material from their back catalogue. 'Live At The Hurrah Club' captures the band in full flight at New York’s Hurrah Club during that legendary 1980 U.S. tour, and is the only known footage of the band in concert, making this a unique release for all YMG fans.Amongst the tracks featured are the Independent chart top ten hit 'Final Days'.
