3/3 - 3/3. LP. (Shadoks Music - SHADOKS 082) 3/3 are Reck (guitar, vocals), Higo Hiroshi (bass) and Chiko Hige (drums). The name was inspired by a Japanese comic (4/4). In February 1975 3/3 ( Sanbun No San) released this album in a tiny pressing of 15 copies only to get a record deal. The cover was homemade and the recording sounds live but without audience. The music is ultra heavy guitar dominated psychedelic rock like a mixture of Blue Cheer, MC5 and early Punk / New Wave bands. The sound quality is mediocre but the music is a blaster. 3/3 has never released another recording. Both Reck and Hige then moved to New York where they stayed for over a year and played with James Chance & the Contortions, Lydia Lunch (Teenage Jesus & The Jerks) and others (No New York movement). They returned to Japan in 1978 to start a new group which became very famous: Friction, who certainly had a big influence on the late 1970's Japanese punk and new wave scene. This album of 3/3 is the rarest underground album ever released in Japan.180 gram pressing on black wax and screen print sleeve.300 copies only.

Acid Mothers Temple - Starless & Bible Black Sabbath. CD. (Alien 8 - ALIENCD 62) We thinks the title gives away the influences involved here somewhat, but then again one never quite knows with this Japanese psychedelic ensemble. This release sees the band paying homage to Black Sabbath. It isn't straight up Sabbath worship in the sense of covers, but rather the band pays respect to the sound of Sabbath & like minded bands such as Melvins or Zeni Geva.

Acid Mothers Temple - Wild Girls A Go-Go. Dble LP. (Eclipse Records - ECLIPSE 0) At long last a well-deserved and well overdue vinyl re-issue of one of the greatest albums created by the psychedelic freaks of Japan's AMT. Originally released on CD in ridiculously low numbers we finally have a deluxe double 180g vinyl version housed in a heavy duty, risque (but of course), gatefold sleeve. Those lucky enough to grap a copy back in the day will need no convincing to snap this up, for those in the dark read on.. Conceived as the soundtrack to a Russian psychedelic exploitation film, this album marks the moment when the AMT crew started to really push outwards into unmapped regions of space. The sound is not as frequently wild or heavy as it has been on some of their other lp's but any suggestion of disappointment will be crushed when you hear the mesmerising mixture of cyclical riffing and a persistant high pitch drone that introduces the listener to the album. This album is a much darker affair than one may have come to expect from the guitar freakouts layering many recent AMT LPs. Drones and misplaced vocals aplenty, this album presents AMT in comedown mood, and the guitars here are of the acoustic variety. There is still enough of the original AMT sound to go around here but also there are enough twists to hopeful bring this hard working and stunningly inventive collective to a whole new audience. Fronted by 'Nik Fiend' (aka Nik Wade) ASF were one of the bands that defined the genre (one of the few NOT from Leeds) in its early days, and were popular in the UK, Germany and Japan. This disc was filmed partially in Tokyo (as the title suggests) and partly in their homeland, and includes such faves as 'Ignore The Machine' 'RIP' 'Dead And Buried' and 'EST'. Archie Fisher & Barbara Dickson - The Folk Experiences Of - Thro' The Recent Years. CD. (Vinyl Japan - ASKCD 155) One of the very earliest recordings by Barbara Dickson, who was involved in the Scottish Folk scene and had been working with Archie Fisher in the late '60's. the pair both sing original compostions of semi autobiographical, traditional and fantastical tales. They are backed by a string arrangement and various Scottish session men. Soon after this album, Barbara would leave Scotland for London where she would continue with the Folk scene for a while but would soon hit the big time in musicals in the mid-'70's; making this an unusual, hard to get collectors item. Originally released in '70, this is a very rare Japanese edition complete with an obi strip. Asturias - Brilliant Streams. CD. (Spalax - 14535) Mostly instrumental, this laid-back Japanese prog album from 1989, utilises "E. Guitar" and computer programming to great effect supported by the usual gtr/bs/drums.... The four very relaxing tracks, with the longest at 22 mins, have an inventive feel, and evoke images of pastoral landscapes. Fans of Mike Oldfield ought to check this!

Be-Bop Deluxe - Drastic Plastic. CD. (EMI - CDP 7947332) The final Be-Bop Deluxe album is a fascinating deconstruction of Bill Nelson's obsession with an arcane vision of the future. Produced in 1978 this album celebrates the vision of a future that seemed possible in the 1950s, filled with strange contraptions and new modes of communication. Nelson found his own vision of the future in Japan and treats the culture with a romanticism that never betrays his strident experimentalism. This album acts as a fine signpost for the musical experiments Nelson would go on to construct with his more audacious group "Red Noise".

The album ‘Go Between’ was originally released in 1986 but has been unavailable since 1992.The New Percussion Group of Amsterdam was founded in 1980 by two solo percussionists of the Amsterdam Concertgebouw Symphony Orchestra, Jan Pustjens and Niels Le Large, specifically to bring new and adventurous percussion works to a young and modern audience. This re-mastered edition of Go Between comprises four long tracks of material written specifically for the project and its two stellar-featured artists.Bill Bruford has been in the top echelon of percussionists for almost forty years. Through bands like Yes, King Crimson and Genesis to countless sessions and also leading a number of his own groups. Bill has enjoyed success within a number of different musical fields including rock and jazz. He currently leads the successful Earthworks jazz ensemble and runs the equally successful record labels Summerfold and Winterfold.The eminent Japanese composer and virtuoso, Keiko Abe, studied percussion, composition and piano at Gakugei University in Tokyo, ultimately specialising on marimba, the instrument she was to change forever. Bill Drummond - The Man. CD. (Castle - CMRCD1233) To some a seminal figure, to others merely 'famous for being famous'. Everyone has their own opinion of Bill Drummond, the enigmatic South African who ensonced himself in the Liverpool scene of the late 70s/early 80s (becoming, like practically everyone else who ever went to Eric's, a member of the quasi-legendary Big In Japan). Head of Zoo Records alongside the Teardrops' Dave Balfe, svengali figure to the Bunnymen, 'ideas man' behind Strawberry Switchblade, Zodiac Mindwarp and the Proclaimers, and ultimately the man behind the KLF (upon which the FE jury is still out)- so many strings to one bow, yet little is remembered of his own career as a singer songwriter, which began an ended with this one album on Creation in 1987 after his resignation from his own label. Never released on CD before, expanded thanks to the addition of the bonus track 'A Manager Speaks' (which is worth £30 as the B side of the original 72 single of 'King Of Joy') and featuring liner notes from the man himself. Includes the by now legendary 'Julian Cope Is Dead' (a riposte to 'Bill Drummond Said' from Copey's "Fried" album)- sure to resurrect some old controversies!!

Bill Nelson - Chimera. CD. (Mercury - 9831027) Nelson continued to move forward into unchartered territory with this, originally an EP that followed the more spiritually-oriented 'The Love That Whirls', now boosted to full album status by dint of several highly welcome bonus tracks. An attempt to return to simpler pop structure after its predecessor's esoteric bent, this was the first of Bill's collaborations with the Yellow Magic Orchestra's Yukihiro Takashi, and bears very much the stamp of that band, as well as featuring Mick Karn of Japan on fretless bass. Nelson's masterful guitar playing returns very much to the fore here on the track 'The Real Adventure' but on tracks like 'Glow World' and 'Everyday Feels Like A New Drug' he was moving further toward what would eventually be known as dance music. One of the few truly 'progressive' (in the literal sense of the word) musicians around.

(Amr Archive - AIRAC1138) Very limited Japanese reissue housed in a mini card gatefold sleeve (with obi strip) of the excellent debut by this early '70's UK progressive/satanic rock band. Featuring the brilliant "Come To The Sabbat" this album is pure Hammer House Of Horror, mixing heavy riffs, flute, keyboards and soaring vocal harmonies with evocative lyrics about demons and Satanic rites- which, alongside the likes of Zior, Ghost (UK), Necromandus, Leaf Hound, Atomic Rooster, Laudunum, Coven (US) and Icecross (Iceland) is an early example of what collectors are now calling 'dark rock'- an ancient ancestor of stoner, doom and black metal. Loving production by Roy Thomas Baker infact a bit of a gem this little re-issue.LAST 2 COPIES OF THIS JAP PRESSING.

Blue Stars Of France - Lullaby Of Birdland & Other Famous Hits. CD. She formed Blue Stars Of France at the outset of her career in the early 50s and the band enjoyed an immediate American hit with their imaginative version of George Shearing's ‘Lullaby Of Birdland’ which was arranged by Michel Legrand. The Blue Stars Of France album is the coolest modern music; from it's source evolved the Double Six Of Paris, Lambert Hendricks & Ross and the Swingle Singers. She is big in Japan (where many of Blossom's best albums are in print) and in the States, where she will always be remembered for her lovely performances on 'America Rock!' Described by jazz critic Leonard Feather as 'A Voice In a Million', Blossom Dearie continues to tour and bring joy to sophisticated audiences everywhere. With her intimate style and unique voice, she remains one of the few survivors of a specialized art.

Bonfire - Bonfire Goes Bananas. CD. (Pseudonym Records - CDP 1016) Japan only reissue of this EMI Dutch rarety from the 70's! A true hidden symphonic prog monster. Excellent dynamic rock influenced mainly by YES but with the experimental rock feel of Supersister.

Boredoms - Onanie Bomb Meets The Sex Pistols. CD. CD re-issue of the bands 1986 album ("onanie" being Japanese slang for "female masturbation") which twitches and scrambles like epileptic billiard balls at the first break.Experimental distorted song structures and control free vocals make this a musical lucky dip much like late 60's early 70's Kraut rock experimentations.Even the recording dates are mysterious as the band state they started in 1986 The Japanese version first claimed 1994 and the UK version claimed to be released in 1988??

Boredoms - Pop Tatari. CD. The 3rd album from 1992 by the Japanese band is a loopy mix of reggae/funk/hip hop/punk/metal and noise topped off with manic vocals.Think a young Beefheart crossed with "locust" period Butthole Surfers. Possibly the least commercial album since Lou Reed's "Metal Machine Music".

Boredoms - Seadrum/House Of Sun. CD. (Vice - 62309-2) Across nearly 20 years, founder and leader Eye has taken the band on the equivalent of a road trip, from the early swamps of chaos through times of tribal frenzy, oceanic tranquility, and even near prog-rock sonic constructions.Tthe Boredoms were responsible for opening the eyes of listeners in this country to the possibilities of the Japanese music scene. After all, Yoshimi was even namechecked in a Flaming Lips album title. THE ALBUM Seadrum/House of Sun, was edited from recording sessions spanning a couple of years (including some with former guitarist Yamamoto). As the name hints, some of it was recorded at the beach, with the tide coming in as they played. The two lengthy tracks comprising the 2006 album manage a paradoxical blending of peaceful waves of sound with intense, churning rhythmic moments.

Boredoms - Super Roots 6. CD. (Very Friendly - VF039CD) Issued in both Japan and America in 1996, this seventte ntrack album is very likely to be more of an Eye solo album despite the crediting of oter band members Hira, Yamamoto, Yoshimi P-We, and ATR/Atari. Apart from the odd moment of noise, this must be the most gentle of all the Super Roots albums; meditative, self-aware, and pregnant with breaks and beats.

Boredoms - Super Roots 7. CD. (Very Friendly - VF040CD) Japanese only EP featuring cover material. Super Roots 7 will sound familiar to Mekons fans as it’s an extended cover of the group’s second single "Where Were You." The three Krautrocky tracks embrace synthesizers more fully than any previous release: "Boriginal" is the groups twenty minute celebration of the Mekons twentieth anniversary as an active band, the two book end tracks are Eye-sanctioned remixes. They manage to be rocky and repetitive while still grasping for a unifying melody. Brilliant ballsy music.

Boredoms - Super Roots 8. CD. (Very Friendly - VF041CD) Japanese only EP featuring cover material. This time they are tackling the theme to the TV show Jungle Taitei. This otherwise majestic track is sliced into thousands of pieces by 250 BPM beyond-gabber drum programming. This is followed by the spacey 2Laughter Robot’s Hemp Mix", a phased dub tinged version that brings the listener back down. Insane.

Bow Wow Wow - I Want Candy: Anthology. Dble CD. (Castle - CMEDD816) Malcom McLaren knew how to manage a media campaign, and after controlling the Sex Pistols’ rise to notoriety, he scandalised the popular press one more time with Bow Wow Wow. Led by 14-year-old Annabelle Lu Win, the band sold a controversial mix of punk energy, cartoon theatrics and sexuality. This definitive anthology includes a rare Japanese live album alongside their key singles and LP tracks.

Boz Scaggs - Fade Into Light. CD + DVD. (Virgin Records - CDVUSX 273) From his formative years as a musician growing up in Texas in the days of early rock and roll, R&B, blues and folk, Boz Scaggs was steeped in the music coming out of New Orleans, Memphis, Chicago, and from Dallas. "Fade Into Light" has been previously available in Japan, but this is its first release in the UK. All tracks were recorded live at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco (some feature Boz unplugged). Among them is a version of Boz's biggest hit 'Lowdown', as well as a newly recorded version of Teddy Pendergrass' 'Love T.K.O.'. The DVD contains the album in enhanced stereo, along with video footage of 3 tracks in 5.1 surround sound.

Brast Burn - Debon. CD. (Paradigm - PD 07) Quite an unbelievable find! This mysterious record has lain undiscovered since the mid seventies when (it is guessed) it was recorded by a group of unknown Japanese musicians and then released privately by Voice records. Rumours of the greatness of this psychedelic masterpiece have circulated for years (largely propagated by Nurse With Wounds famously obscure "list" on which Brast Burn feature) and it has finally seen re-release in a beautiful hand numbered CD issue of just 500. So, now that it's available what's it actually like? Well,... it's simply astonishing. Split into two long sequences, the music runs right up to the edge of sanity and screams wordlessly in the face of madness then jogs back to a lone hill top to lazily invent the form of psychedelic acid folk that Ghost have made an entire career from. There is utterly freaked out, acid-drenched genius at work on this record. Strains of Kraut rock run throughout, Can, and particularly Damo Suzuki's vocal style, are certainly valid comparisons, but this music really does seem to be running a race of its own, clouded in pot smoke, and headed in the wrong direction but glorious while doing it. Highly Recommended.

Brown Nose - Underground Radio Show. CD. Bizarre album by a new Japanese band trying to copy "Smile" Era Beach Boys / Bonzo Dog Band / "Sgt. Pepper" Beatles / Kinks. The results are hilarious.... Imagine the aforementioned styles taken to the absolute extreme completely overdone and crammed with every instrument imaginable. And the lyrics?...... Mad!!...

Bugaloos - Songs From The Original Television Series. CD. (El - ACMEM66CD) Syd & Marty Krofft’s enormously successful follow up to "Hr Pufnstuf" another Wizard Of Oz-style children's programme full of psychedelic metaphors and great music. With a nod toward the contemporary success of Josie and The Pussycats, The Archies and The Banana Splits (which placed a band at the centre of the story), and with insect wings that allow them to fly, The Bugaloos were a fake pop band of English bugs who live in Tranquility Forest (the last of the British colonies) along with their friend Sparky the firefly. The Bugaloos theme was created by Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel (who had completed ‘Barbarella’ and ‘Pufnstuf’ and would soon write the famous themes for 'Happy Days' and ‘Laverne and Shirley') with most of the other beautiful selections (including the hit 'Senses of Our World') penned by Hal Yoergler who also produced the soundtrack. Touted as the British version of the Monkees, over 5000 aspiring Bugaloos auditioned to cast the four leads, each having to demonstrate aptitude in dance, singing, and acting. Apparently a young Phil Collins was amongst them, auditioning for the role of I.Q but failing to get the part. Bigger even than Pufnstuf in the US, this is (incredibly) the first time this soundtrack has been made available in the West (in Japan the programme is regarded as almost sacred) Bugger me. Bugger who? No, it's the Bugaloos!!!

Can - Future Days. CD. (Mute - CDSPOON9) Remastered from the original master tapes, reissued and now in CD format- this was the Koln experimentalists' (with emphasis on the 'mentalists' bit) final album with Japanese vocalist Damo Suzuki, and features the 19-minute epic "Bel Air" and plenty of fluid, cyclical percussion from Jaki Liebezeit.

Can - Tago Mago. CD. (Mute - CDSPOON6/7) Third official Can album (originally released in 1970) and the second to feature the insane babblings of Damo Suzuki, a Japanese man fronting a German band singing in English but seemingly fluent only in the lexicon of the Planet Wibble. A double vinyl set at the time of release, this was the album that contained the relentless 20-minute funk of 'Halleluwah' (later copied wholesale by Happy Mondays), the equally long and actually rather frightening tape loop collage that is 'Aumgn', the screeching, gibbering 'Peking O' the sparse garage punk thud of 'Mushroom' and the Link Wray-backwards-through-a mincer clatter of 'Oh Yeah' - all of which have now been sampled to death by every fucker from Hoxton to Moss Side, but that doesn't make them any less classic. Hybrid SACD edition, remastered from original masters, featuring new sleevenotes, original artwork and photos. Will play on SACD players and compatible DVD players.

This is a technically perfect composition and production, with progressive and classical styles to the forefront.This Japanese CD comes with mini gatefold sleeve with fold-out panel.

Chaos UK - Short Sharp Shock. CD. (Anagram Records - CDPUNK 71) Chaos UK's brutal high energy punk and witty observations on everyday life have made them one of the biggest attractions on the international punk scene. This 1991 release, previously only available in Japan, shows that after a decade of performing, they've lost none of their anger or power.

Cheap Trick - Cheap Trick Live At Bukodan. CD. (Sony Music - 5079192) Expanded edition of this classic late 70's power pop gem that was in everyones collection in 1979. Imperial Teen from San Francisco are pure pop confection with melodies that sore assisted by crunchy giutars. Seagull Screaming Kiss Her engaging all girl Japanese group playing scuzzy rock. Stereo Total reside in Berlin and make music ranging from German Cabaret, Disco and '60s pop. Next up are the Busy Signals US practioners of beat laden cut n paste pop. Masters Of The Hemisphere trade in melodic US guitar pop and have a been compared to Love meets the Beach Boys. The final band are folk collective Peopletree featuring vocalist Milla Jovovich.

Chic - In Japan. CD. (Snapper / Charly - SNAP052CD) One of the most memorable and popular acts of the short disco era caught live at the Budokan, Japan 1996. The writing partnership of Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards are the most famous members here, both went on to success writing and producing acts like Madonna and David Bowie and provide the tunes here. Classix Nouveaux - Secret. CD. (Cherry Red - CDMRED303) Although Classix Nouveaux's more guitar-heavy sound separated them from the mostly synthetic rhythms of Japan andUltravox, the group's appetite for stylish fashion and danceable keyboards had them quickly associated with the newromantic movement. Formed in 1979 with Sal Solo (vocals), Mik Sweeney (bass), BP Hurding (drums), and Jak Airport(guitar), Classix Nouveaux originated in the punk underground, namely from the ashes of the controversial X-Ray Spex.After banshee wailer Poly Styrene departed from X-Ray Spex, the remaining members held auditions for a replacementsinger. Cosmos Factory - A Journey With. CD. (lucky pigs - LPR 801) Reissue on CD of the 2nd album by one of Japans best hard PSYCH/SPACE & PROG ROCK bands from the 70's. Originally released in 1975. A strong 'Pink Floyd' influence is felt!!Housed in a digi pack.

Cosmos Factory - Cosmos Factory (An Old Castle Of Transylvania). CD. (Columbia Japan - COCA-15236) Debut album by this '70's Japanese heavy progressive rock band. One of the best Japanese seventies progressive rock albums we've heard with guitars, synth keyboards and violins trading licks whilst the rhythm section keeps the beat kicking in the best Zeppelin or Purple tradition. A mixture of progressive music and heavy rock that really Kicks butt.Great guitar work!

Curt Boettcher - There's An Innocent Face. CD. Japanese issue of this 1973 solo album from the man famous for his work with Millenium, Sagittarius and The Association. As you'd expect this is a high class collection of superbly produced melodic summery pop songs in a similar vein to Curt's work with those bands.

Dave Pell Singers - Mah- Nah- Mah- Nah. CD. (El - ACMEM77CD) Like El's forthcoming Four King Cousins release, the Dave Pell Singers album is highly prized, top class lounge / harmony sunshine pop. What the Japanese call Soft Rock (or even sometimes 'Soff Lock') Originally issued in 1969, It¹s many highlights include a breezy version of Piero Umiliani's "Mah-Na, Mah-Na" and a cool, sensuous performance of the title tune from the controversial musical, "Oh,Calcutta" Pell¹s "Oh Calcutta" has featured already to great acclaim on the very comprehensive "Sound Gallery" compilation of a decade ago. With this release Dave Pell can now take his rightful place amongst the giants of lounge; Andy Williams, Roy Budd, Dudley Moore (actually, I think you'll find he was a bebop pianist- Get Facts Straight Ed), Tony Hatch. Dave Pell's behind-the-scenes career may be more familiar to space age pop fans than his own accomplishments as a performer. Head of A & R at United Artists and Liberty Records in the sixties, Pell produced well-known albums by Martin Denny, The Ventures, Shirley Bassey and Bobby Vee.

Death In June - Not Guilty And Proud. Pic Disc LP. (NER/Tesco Organisation - DIJ111J) EXCLUSIVE!! Limited edition picture disc, designed by Enrico Chiarparin. The tracks are remixes from the June's debut album from 1980, entitled 'The Gulty Have No Pride' and later also reissued as 'The Guilty Have No Past'. The style of the band at the time was very Joy Division/Big In Japan/Stranglers influenced, and rooted in the deep-vocal and clanging bass sound used by every post-punk and even New Romantic band of the time, Pearce's vocals sometimes bearing a resemblance to early Phil Oakey. Little did people know what was to follow. . .

Deep Purple - Denmark 72. Dble CD. (Purple Records - PUR253) Excellent 2 CD set that was recorded in March 1972, just 3 months prior to the recording of the famous "Made In Japan" album.This live set was taped the start of their world tour to promote the "Machine Head" album and has the addition of the songs that were dropped from the set as the tour progressed such as "Fireball". Fantastic CD that has the un-edited set complete with all on stage banter.

Deep Purple - Live In Japan 1972. 3-CD Set. (EMI/Purple - CDEM1510) 3 CD set that contains all 3 night performances of the bands 1972 Japanese dates from which the legendary 'Made in Japan' was edited from.This is a wart 'n' all set that contains all the banter,screw up's the lot.Includes all the encores from each night.(not included anywhere else)The set from each night has been left to the correct running order and shows how edited M.I.J. was!Hefty colour booklet details the tour, the mastering and editing when the band returned and the fall out's that happened after it's massive success.

Deep Purple - Made In Europe. CD. (EMI - 0777 7 93796 2) Made in 1975, this live album featured David Coverdale on vocals, and was Richie Blackmore's last recorded contribution. Five lengthy tracks taken from Paris and Germany including "Burn," "Mistreated," "You Fool No One"and the powerful set closer "Stormbringer" make this a worthy companion to the better-known 'Made In Japan.'

Deep Purple - Made In Japan. Dble LP. (Simply Vinyl - SVLP 220) Limited edition 180 gram virgin vinyl album in original gatefold sleeve of this classic 1972 live double. All the early Purp's greats are here including "Highway Star", "Child In Time", "Smoke On The Water" and a twenty minute version of "Space Truckin" all recorded live at various Japanese venues. Possibly their finest moment.

Deep Purple - On The Road. 4-CD Box Set. (Connosseur Collections - DPBOX 400) Wonderful 4 CD box set of live Purple shows recorded during their peak years. Much of these recordings have never been available on CD before, and the set features shows from Scandinavia, London and Japan. Covering the years 1969 through to 1976 this includes tracks from their most well known albums and is a superb addition to any Purple collectors collection. Stunning sound quality. Includes a booklet and a set of collectors cards.

Deep Purple - This Time Around Live In Tokyo. Dble CD. (Purple Records - PUR321D) Great official release for this 1975 live concert from Japan. Featuring the guitar of Tommy Bolin and vocals of David Coverdale this double disc set includes plenty of the live standouts from the bands career as far back as Machine Head right through to the Come Taste The Band (the album the band were promoting at the time). Essential for collectors as this was the final Far East tour that the band ever did. Excellent full colour booklet that contains all the tour posters and ticket stubs for the said tour.

Dennis Coulson - Dennis Coulson. CD. (Vinyl Japan - JASKCD 150P) Only solo album from the McGuiness Flint singer / guitarists / keyboardist. Very limited edition Japanese copy with an obi strip. An earthy and warm folk rock feel, despite Coulsons harsh, lamenting vocal, recorded with the assistance of Flint members in '73. Lyrically Dennis mixes the sweet with the sour, it's surprising that he never followed it up as it is a fine album of folk tinged pop worthy of recognition. Features: "Lady Of Fortune", "Neurosis U.S.A", "Sunset Song" and "Yesterday's Dream."

Deviants - #3. CD. (Captain Trip - CTCD 061) Brilliant 3rd album with Nun Cover. This is a Japanese copy with a reproduction of the rare LP insert. Stoned late '60s Freak Rock with "Billy The Monster", "Black George Does It With His Tongue", "The Junior Narco Rangers" and other such classics. Wicked, dirty guitar and humorous druggy lyrics... a classic!! Ltd Japanese edition with obi strip and Japanese booklet.

Deviants - Human Garbage. CD. (Captain Trip - CTCD092) Reunion album recorded live with Wayne Kramer (MC5) and Larry Wallis (Pink Fairies) in the mid '80s. Features the hilarious genius of "Takin' LSD" together with "Police Car" and a great version of Zappa's "Trouble Comin' Every Day". This album was often heard playing at '80s festivals.... a bit of an underground classic. Ltd edition Japanese CD with obi strip and Jap lyric insert.

Die Krupps - Foundation. CD. (Captain Trip - CTCD057) Along with Front 242, the German group Die Krupps stands as one of the innovators of the subgenre of modern Euro kraut-rock that has been dubbed "body music" - a sound characterized by its dense electronic makeup as well as its harsh, visceral execution. This excellent Japanese collection is made up of a very early live set from 1981 and 7 bonus tracks of re-mixes,long versions etc. All housed with an informative booklet in Japanese and obi strip.

Featuring the usual mix of originals and cover versions (Daydream Believer, Massachussetts, Judy In Disguise) this is another great underground Japanese band utilising vocal harmonies, dirty guitar sounds and a forceful over-the-top garage rhythm section that the Japanese do best. Earthless - Rhythms From A Cosmic Sky. CD. (Tee Pee Records - TPE076CD) Recorded by Tim Green (Pearls & Bress / Melvins / The Fucking Champs) in January 2007, this is the Mario Rubalaba led acid blues rock group. The trio, based out of San Diego formed due to their joint love of under the radar records like Japanese psychedelia and Garage Rock. They decided to create their own Japanese style psychedelic / Heavy Kraut Rock; their subsequent live shows were notoriously different from show to show and real crowd pullers. Felix Pappalardi - Felix Pappalardi & Creation + Don't Worry Ma. CD. (Edsel / Demon - DIAB 8076) The famous producer's only two solo albums on one CD. Having produced Joan Baez, Tim Hardin, Leslie West and of course Cream's Disreali Gears, Felix formed (with Leslie West) the massively popular hard rock group Mountian in the early '70's before moving onto his own brief solo career. Starting in '76, his debut was recorded wit h Japanese hard rock act Creation who had toured with Mountain a few years earlier. His '79 solo finale was recorded with top US sessioners Eric Gale, Bernard Purdie and Chuck Rainey. Both of these efforts eighteen tracks

Flied Egg - Dr. Siegel's Fried Egg Shooting Machine/Goodbye. CD. (Black Rose Records - BR 160) Another fine example of early seventies Japanese rock, the first album on this 2fer effort has a more psychedelic edge to it and is probably the bands best album.The second album also from 1972 (originally on Vertigo) is a monster mixing up Free and Sabbath on the half live half studio affair. The CD sleeve has the original Daliesque cover on one side and the plain black 'Goodbye' on the other (sadly not textured)- loaded with weirdness from the land of the rising sun.

Flied Egg - Goodbye. LP. (Wa-hanna - HW 29712) A fine specimen of one of the many great Japanese rock bands from the early seventies, most of whom were never heard outside their own country. This album from 1972 has overtones of Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and even Iron Butterfly, with plenty of insane acid guitar and prominent keyboards. An excellent example of its' genre. LP comes in gatefold sleeve and is on 180 gram vinyl....

Flied Egg - Goodbye. CD. (Vertigo - PHCL3017) Japanese Vertigo pressing (jewel case) of their 2nd (and last) album that compiled live [from their farewell concert, apparently] and studio tracks.The album leant more towards their heavy rock side, notably influenced by Grand Funk circa ‘Live Album’ and numerous Black Sabbath-meets-Mountain wannabes, and including a couple of old Strawberry Path songs. The studio material was in a similar vein to the range of styles on their first album. Drummer Hiro Tsunoda had previously been in The Jacks, Foodbrain and Strawberry Path, and was also in Sadistic Mika Band at some point. Bassist Masayoshi Takanaka had previously been in Brush.This CD is an excellent example of its' genre.Check out the 12 minute "Five More Pennies". Originally released in 1972 on Vertigo Records in 1972.Now deleted - these are the last few copies.

Freda Payne - Band Of Gold- The Best Of Freda Payne. CD. (Castle - CMRCD044) Band Of Gold' was a landmark in soul, topping the charts in 1970 and remaining an oldies evergreen ever since. This tale of marital rejection launched Freda's career at Invictus which spanned many more hits and three albums. Named after her oft-sampled debut single, this 2-CD Anthology contains all her recordings for Invictus between 1969 and 1973, including her rare third album for the label, Reaching Out, which has never been reissued on CD outside Japan.

Fumio Nunoya & Dew - Lost Blues Days Vol 1. CD. Rare recordings from the leader and vocalist of Japanese psych legends BLUES CREATION. Solo live recordings from 1973 as well as live tracks from 1970 by heavy blues group DEW, mostly covers, like "Feelin' alright" and Mr. Tambourine Man" but also originals like "Typhoon no. 13" and "Puddle" which have that distinctive touch that characterizes the best music from Japan. Gary Walker & The Rain - Album No.1. LP. Beautiful laminated sleeve re-issue of classic late '60s beat / psych piece by the British band (featuring one of the Walker Brothers). This originally only came out in Japan and includes the original of the classic "Francis" (on Perfumed Garden) and "Magazine Woman". Certainly a lost classic of UK '60s psych/beat pop. Guitarist Joey Molland went on to join Badfinger in 1969.

Accompanied by Martin Briley, Peter Skellern and Andrew Pryce Jackman, Davis takes on a large number of the instruments himself, returning to his roots by playing the drums. Group Therapy - Melatomania. CD. (Mellow Records - MMP 418) Japanese jazz rock stunner from 2001. Melatomania is so astonishingly unique that it can change the "average" attitude to Jazz-Fusion rather radically. This is not only a killer progressive rock album but, this work is incredibly innovative from the first to the last note - even in the approach to implant the 5-tone Eastern parts to the traditional compositional structures making it a unique fusion of styles.

Haino Keiji & Yoshida Tatsuya - New Rap. CD. (Tzadik - TZACD7262) Haino Keiji is a mysterious psychedelic minstrel who has been performing his peculiar blend of rock, mediaeval music and improvisation since the early 1970’s. Incredibly prolific, he has headed dozens of bands and released hundreds of CDs on a variety of labels around the globe. His latest project is a wild duo with Ruins mastermind Yoshida Tatsuya, the undisputed master drummer of the Japanese Underground. Featuring Haino’s unique singing and screaming style as well as his best guitar playing to date, this is a remarkably varied and creative program of radical music by two of Japan’s greatest originals.

Harumi - Harumi. CD. (Fallout - FOCD042) Produced by Tom Wilson (Velvets, Dylan, Simon & Garfunkel), this sprawling set of '60's Japanese Acid Pop and folk makes it's debut on CD. The thirteen tracks here range from Japanese / Eastern influenced pop to epic and mystic, introspective numbers. You can hear Wilson's influence particularly on the last few tracks here, the guitar heavy tracks that took up the whole of the second disc on the original double LP release are reminiscent of the Velvets and even Can. A real cult hit.

Há Zá Má - Há Zá Má. CD. (Captain Trip - CTCD 007) First released in 1995 and now available again, this is Japanese West Coast influenced Acid Rock. Great guitar work and a heavy psych jamming sound that moves in a similar direction to White Heaven/Blue Cheer/Kak.

Heavy Soul - Old Town & Barry's Deep Down & Dirty Sides (Various). CD. (Kent Soul - CDKEND 253) Old Town Records had an extensive roster (and some very successful records) of doo wop, rock’n’roll, blues and gospel and the hits continued into the early 60s but were mostly in the R&B vein. When soul releases started to appear, veterans of the calibre of Donald Height were signed and artists such as Billy Bland, Roscoe Gordon and the Fiestas all tried their hand at the new music. The sound that developed was mostly typical of the New York scene during that period: big city, orchestrated, uptown soul. A lot of this was dance music which was the focus of "The Old Town And Barry Soul Survey" CD (CDKEND 244). An R&B feel to a fair proportion of the recordings was retained and the success of southern soul artists such as Otis Redding reinforced this. Gritty singers Lester Young (not the legendary jazz tenorman) and Jesse G made records with a horn section rather than strings, and several releases had more than a touch of Memphis about them. This CD highlights the deep soul of Old Town / Barry records with the emphasis firmly on the quality of the singing and emotional depth of the pieces. Although one or two tracks have appeared on other CDs both in Japan and the UK, the vast majority of tracks are reissued here for the first time. The package includes a lavish booklet in the finest Kent tradition with captivating and highly-informative notes.

Hickory Wind - At The Wednesday Night Waltz. CD. (Air Mail Recordings - AIRAC 1012) Absolute stunner from the legendary Texan band. Originally issued in the mid 70s and only available in Japan it has been reissued in a beautiful mini LP card sleeve with obi strip. Hickory Wind truly show their versatility on this album; in the middle of the 1970s bluegrass explosion they were questioning what exactly it was a country/pop/garage/psychedelic band could perform, and you might have guessed that the answer's: quite a lot. Hiro Yanagida - Hiro Yanagida. CD. (Sky F Zol - DP 8027) Japanese keyboardist with more than his fair share of appearances on future-rarities (Apryl Fool, Foodbrain, Love Live Life + One, etc.), now on CD heres the 1971 follow-up to his heavyweight solo debut Milk Time. Teaming up once again with guitar surgeon Kimio Mizutani, its a dense bunch of pounding instrumentals, melancholy vocals and "My Dear Mary", a doo-wop paean to the demon weed with Joey Smith on loan from Speed, Glue & Shinki.

Featuring great fuzz guitar and harmony laced songs the album includes "I've got to Keep on Pushing" (covered by '80's psych band Plan 9) and "April The 15th" wherein the band demolish a piano with an axe! Ian Gillan Band - Live At The Budokan. CD. (Edsel - EDSS 1003) Recorded at the famous Japanese sumo wrestling venue on 22nd September 1977 by the Ian Gillan Band: It was released in Japan in December 1977 in two volumes, but only released in the UK and Europe as a 2 LP set in July 1983. The first three sides of the original vinyl feature extended work-outs of songs from the IGB albums "Clear Air Turbulence" and "Scarabus".The release closes with storming versions of three Deep Purple classics: "Child InTime", "Smoke On The Water", and "Woman From Tokyo".
