Buzzov*en - Welcome To Violence. CD. (Alternative Tentacles - VIRUS330CD)

As one of the most feared and revered bands of the 1990s Buzzov*en made a name for itself by bridging the gap between the hardcore punk of bands like Econochrist and Spitboy, the more cerebral heaviness of Neurosis, and the amplifier worship of bands like Sleep and Eyehategod. Hatred, pain, addiction, depression and violence all boiled over in both the lyrics and the music. Buzzov*en was equally infamous for their chaotic, physical live shows, often ending with vocalist/guitarist kirk fischer a bloody mess. Collects the frightening, Billy Anderson-produced debut LP to a frown and the EPs from the same time period unwilling to explain and wound. Also included is brand new artwork by Arik "moonchild" Roper (high on fire, sleep, gore) and liner notes by several characters who bore witness to the chaos of buzzov*en including Hank Williams iii, Jeff Clayton of Antiseen, members of Eyehategod and more.…

Capricorns - Ruder Forms Survive. CD. (Rise Above Records - RISECD067)

Absolutely essential debut album from Walthamstow-based sludge instrumentalists, with emphasis on the 'mentalists' bit. Think Melvins, Unsane, Jesu, Isis, Pelican, Neurosis, Oxbow (most of whom they have supported), Swans, the God Machine. . .then strip away all the vocals a la Karma To Burn, add the prog loony experimentalism of King Crimson or 'Ummagumma'-era Floyd and the sheer punk 'aaarg' of Amebix, and you have the recipe for the greatest thing to come out of E17 since Viv Stanshall's ginger beard. Recorded in a deserted radio station in Berlin for that full bleak wasteland experience- the aural equivalent of a Bela Tarr film or having your head rammed down a swarfiga-coated blast furnace, this could be the future of extreme music as we know it. As Todd Rundgren said, 'there are no words'. Except on one track that is, where fellow nutter Eugene Robinson (Oxbow) turns up to scare the trolleys off us all. Also features members of Bridge & Tunnel, Iron Monkey, Orange Goblin, the Dukes of Nothing, and anyone else whoever drank in the Crobar. You need this.

Dennis Coulson - Dennis Coulson. CD. (Vinyl Japan - JASKCD 150P)

Only solo album from the McGuiness Flint singer / guitarists / keyboardist. Very limited edition Japanese copy with an obi strip. An earthy and warm folk rock feel, despite Coulsons harsh, lamenting vocal, recorded with the assistance of Flint members in '73. Lyrically Dennis mixes the sweet with the sour, it's surprising that he never followed it up as it is a fine album of folk tinged pop worthy of recognition. Features: "Lady Of Fortune", "Neurosis U.S.A", "Sunset Song" and "Yesterday's Dream."

Mono - Gone: A Collection Of Eps. CD. (Temporary Residence Ltd - TRR121CD)

Formed in 1999 by four Tokyo natives as an antithesis to the omnipresent Japanese pop scene, this instrumental group can create pounding rhythms which infuse psychedelia, minimalism and prog rock. This compilation brings together rare and out-of-print non-album tracks, chronologically tracking the bands rapid music metamorphosis, incorporating classical influences and pushing the music to structural and emotional extremes that owed as much to Wagner and Beethoven as it did Black Sabbath and Neurosis. All tracks have been beautifully remastered from their original master tapes.

Ramesses - We Will Lead You To Glorious Times. CD. (This Dark Reign - TDR18CD)

Finally to be unleashed upon your tortured eardrums- former Electric Wizard bludgeoners Tim Bagshaw and Mark Greening return, with new vocalist/bassist Adam Richardson, as Ramesses (not to be confused with the Dave Tibet-endorsed acid folkers of the same name) with an enhanced 2005 CD containing four seriously LONG audio tracks (utter dooooooooooooooom, folks) and two exclusive videos. Produced by Billy Anderson, who should need no introduction, but here goes anyway- Melvins, Neurosis, Orange Goblin, Sunn, High On Fire, er, get the picture) this is a bludgeoningly heavy and long-awaited debut release full of filthy, sick, bassy riffage and introspective trippery. And it's got a track called "Witchampton"!
