DJC Collection - Various. CD. (DJC Records - DJC017)

Any album that dares to mix, among other things, the skewed blues of Kevin Coyne, the inspired lunacy of the Bonzo Dog Band’s ‘You Done My Brain In’ and Roger Ruskin Spear’s Doctor Rock and then, just to vary proceedings, the cool funky jazz violin of Marius Kahan, is ok by me. If that album also includes a track by accordion quintet Norvic Concordia and melodeon player and singer Damien Barber’s impassioned traditional treatment of Al Stewart’s ‘Nostradamus’, not to mention the country stylings of Lucas Hille and the vocal gymnastics of Aussie chanteuse Mira’nda, then I’m in Heaven. DJC Records should be applauded for not only being one of the most eclectic labels in existence but also for having the vision to see the bigger picture. There’s either a maniac or an inspired genius working at DJC
