Outrageous Cherry - The Book Of Spectral Projections. CD. (Rainbow Quartz - RQTZ067) Brilliant 2001 album by perhaps the best US psych band since Plasticland! Described by songwriter/leader Matthew Smith as 'a Space Opera of sorts like Harry Nilsson with Hawkwind as the back-up group' the band cross'70s AM radio pop with a heavier, reverbed late '60's acid space rock vibe at times recalling early Pink Floyd and The Velvet Underground. Tracks include 'The Unseen Devourers', 'Electric Child Of Witchcraft Rising' and eighteen others.

Psychedelic Avengers - And The Dectarian Blood Empire. Dble CD. (Funfundiverzig - FUNF155) A fantastically ambitious album in 2006, a modern day psychedelic Space Opera! And yes we are talking about a concept album, based on the short story "Psychedelic Avengers And The Dectarian Blood Empire" imagined as an accompanying film score to an imaginary movie. The second album from The Avengers, this is in fact a mighty collaborative project, featuring 43 artists (including Vibravoid, Electric Orange, Urlab In Polen, Marble Sheep,Hamburgedelic and Dark Sun) with at least two on each track. An incredible 155 minutes of space rock barmyness! For fans of Sun Ra, Can, Amon Duul and Faust, their influences are all here.

Whistler, Chaucer, Detroit And Greenhill - Unwritten Works Of Geoffrey, Etc. LP. (Fallout - FOLP2007) 180 gram exact repro of 1968 US psych album from Texas (you would believe West Coast) mixing some superb psychedelic compositions (Day Of Childhood, House Of Collection) with good folk/rock songs with solid fuzz guitar lines and West Coast inspired vocals. Each song has such an individual style and such unique songwriting is so hard to find these days. Impossible to find now as an original, so this is a very welcome and timely reissue.The band became Space Opera after they split.
