Spqr - GREENMA 1) Not the 70s band of the same name, but one of a new breed of exciting underground neo-folkers (this time from Italy) specialising in paganism, Wicca and Wicker Men. If the album's title didn't give it away enough, this album acts as almost an unofficial tribute to said film: expect firedances, cornrigs and tree references aplenty, all wrapped up in a sound not dissimilar to Current 93, Sunburned Hand Of The Man, ISB, Comus etc. Summer is icumen in, gaily sing cuckoo.

Long Live Death - Bound To The Wheel. CD. (Secret Eye - OBOC 1400000) The second album from this Baltimore, Maryland-based communal freak folk outfit who combine the more melodic approach of the Incredible String Band or Rameses (early 70s) with abstract chants, dirges and bangings that betray their arthouse roots. Instrumentation included is as diverse as gong, musical saw, cello, accordion, violin, melodica and various strange metal objects. Songs range from pastoral and balladic to downright unsettling. One that should appeal to fans of Sunburned Hand Of The Man, Double Leopards, Current 93, Sol Invictus etc.
