Bill Drummond - The Man. CD.
(Castle - CMRCD1233)
To some a seminal figure, to others merely 'famous for being famous'. Everyone has their own opinion of Bill Drummond, the enigmatic South African who ensonced himself in the Liverpool scene of the late 70s/early 80s (becoming, like practically everyone else who ever went to Eric's, a member of the quasi-legendary Big In Japan). Head of Zoo Records alongside the Teardrops' Dave Balfe, svengali figure to the Bunnymen, 'ideas man' behind Strawberry Switchblade, Zodiac Mindwarp and the Proclaimers, and ultimately the man behind the KLF (upon which the FE jury is still out)- so many strings to one bow, yet little is remembered of his own career as a singer songwriter, which began an ended with this one album on Creation in 1987 after his resignation from his own label. Never released on CD before, expanded thanks to the addition of the bonus track 'A Manager Speaks' (which is worth £30 as the B side of the original 72 single of 'King Of Joy') and featuring liner notes from the man himself. Includes the by now legendary 'Julian Cope Is Dead' (a riposte to 'Bill Drummond Said' from Copey's "Fried" album)- sure to resurrect some old controversies!! | ![]() |

This album is the first release by a band made up of old friends brought together by the catalyst, Maggie Bell who for the past 12 months has been performing at gigs andfestivals throughout Europe as BBQ.Even though the group goes under the name of Bristish Blues Quintet, it’s more like 'Rhythm & Blues Quintet' and draws strongly on the band members backgrounds inrock and blues (Miller Anderson ex ‘Keef Hartley, Zoot Money,’ Colin Allenex ‘Stone The Crows’ and Colin Hodgkinson ex ‘Spencer Davis’)Recorded live at The Ferry, Glasgow 2007 as part of BBQ’s UK tour. | ![]() |

Budgie - In For The Kill. CD.
(Repertoire Records - REP4027)
A UK top 30 album in 1974 and the bands first chart album and confirmed their consistent metal songwriting. Like past releases, the album features huge metal riffs courtesy of guitarist Tony Bourge and wailing vocals from bassist Burke Shelley. "Crash Course In Brain Surgery" (their second song to be covered by Metallica) contains a repetitive and continuous riff, while "Zoom Club" stresses the importance of the almighty power chord. The title track ( covered by Van Halen back in their club days) is metal at its most vibrant, while the group balances the album by including a folk number with Beatles-like vocal harmonies ("Wondering What Everyone Knows"). "Living On Your Own" continues the band's tradition of lengthy closing numbers, ending another sadly overlooked album from this British band. | ![]() |

C1 C2 - C1 C2. LP.
(Shadoks Music - SHADOKS 031)
We can't understand why we still have some of these ! Excellent 1970 album by an unknown US Mid Western psychedelic rock band taken from the only surviving acetate. A mixture of driving melodic acid guitar/keyboard rock with segments of acoustic folky psych, it sounds like a mixture of Tangerine Zoo, Amboy Dukes and the Brain Police. If you dig late '60's US psych with a heavy edge then check this out. There are some great twin wah-wah acid fuzz guitar solos.... Housed in a beautiful fake leather covered sleeve in a limited numbered edition of 450 copies! Fondle with care. | ![]() |

Centipede - Septober Energy. Dble CD.
(B.G.O. Records - BGOCD485)
Classic 1971 release from 50-piece band (an economic disaster but an artistic triumph) that brought together musicians from both contemporary progressive rock and the cutting edge of free jazz. Led by the inimitable Keith Tippetts, the lineup also included Ian Carr, Robert Wyatt, Zoot Money, Dave Markee, Mike Patto, members of King Crimson, Henry Cow, and ELO,Blossom Toes, and the entire population of London (well, it seemed like it), and produced by Robert Frip hence why some of it sounds like outtakes from King Crimson's Islands.Timeless and brilliant. | ![]() |

Cosmic Michael - After A While. CD.
(Radioactive - RRCD166)
‘ I am a child of Woodstock nation, I’ve come a long way from my home....’So sings the one and only Cosmic Michael, on this the opening track of his second album released by the Blisslabel in 1970. An album now high on serious psych collector wants lists too...Cosmic Michael? Well, some regard him as a ‘Godhead’, the ultimate spiritual hippy, with songs of love, freedom& peace, all delivered with just piano, vocals and, kaZoo(?)...A true guru...But, what of the music? I guess these days you’d call it loner psych, but back then the term ‘freak rock’might have been applied to such a release...After his eponymous, and equally enigmatic debut album released a year earlier, he’d witnessed the Woodstock festival, absorbed the vibe, and relocated to Los Angeles where he then recorded this. The nine tracks are stoned 70’s DIY rock ‘n’roll. You can call it lo-fi or home made, but the message remains...Cosmic Michael preaches love and freedom, and is a mean boogie-woogie player too.‘I am a child of Woodstock nation, a simple song is all I carry. . . . .’You’ve been warned. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST TWO COPIES. | ![]() |

Deep Purple - Live At San Diego Sports Arena, April 9th 1974. CD.
(Purple Records - PUR256)
Last show of the five week American "Burn" tour, with the band in blistering form. Able to let their hair down, the sheer power and quality of the performance has to be heard to be believed. Four tracks from this show turned up first on the American made and now very collectable "Perks & Tit" vinyl bootleg, issued on the legendary Kornyphone label back in the late seventies. For this first official CD release Sonic Zoom (part of the Purple Records label) tracked down the sound engineer who taped the first hour of the show through the mixing desk, and have been able to add extra material (including the missing cut of the band's rock anthem Smoke On The Water), all the between song patter, a concluding Jon Lord solo and much improved audio quality (as well as a comment from Glenn to the crowd that it's nice to be doing a show without having to worry about being recorded!). This is a single CD set, the second part of the show has been lost. The CD first appeared back in 2003 as a very limited edition, but has been out of print now for several years |

Elephant's Memory - Songs From Midnight Cowboy. CD.
(Lemon - CDLEM86)
The career of Elephants Memory can be summed up as a case of gilt by association. Having had two songs on the soundtrack of an Oscar-winning film in 1969's Midnight Cowboy, they were then fortunate enough to be selected by John Lennon and Yoko Ono as their backing band. Given that the newly solo Beatle was at the time one of the music world's biggest names, you couldn't get much more famous. You can also count singers Carly Simon and Martha Velez as one-time members. Yet as fast as fame and fortune arrived it disappeared, and nowadays the band is but a footnote in rock history. An enjoyable one, though, as this, their first album from 1969, shows. With the album originally titled 'Elephants Memory', the connection with Midnight Cowboy occurred by chance after the tracks 'Jungle Gym At The Zoo' and 'Old Man Willow', were selected to appear on the film's soundtrack. Dustin Hoffman (Ratzo Rizzo) and Jon Voight (Joe Buck) were among its stars: the Buddah label decided to cash in on the attention the band was getting from the film, hence the re-packaging of the album as 'Songs From Midnight Cowboy Plus Their Hit Singles'. Further weight was added to the film connection with the addition of a version of 'Everybody's Talkin'', Nilsson's hit from the soundtrack, with Michal Shapiro taking the vocallead. John Barry's achingly sad instrumental theme (featuring jazz harmonica legend Toots Thielemans), already a US Top 10 hit for Ferrante & Teicher that year, was another addition, with trumpet and saxophone replacing the original harmonica and wordless vocals from Shapiro. Whilst this record will have obvious appeal to Lennon and Beatles fans, it also maintains the groove to stand alone as a great, fun piece of psychedelic rock memorabilia, here wonderfully repackaged. | ![]() |

Fort Mudge Memorial Dump - Fort Mudge Memorial Dump. CD.
(Arkarma - AK385)
Fort Mudge Memorial Dump was a band from Walpole, Massachusetts, that started playing by 1969, gathering a good number of fans. They got filed into the 'Boston Sound', among the Ultimate Spinach, the Beacon Street Union, Orpheus, Tangerine Zoo, ecc. With good technique and better ideas, they recorded a very sought-after LP in which the voice of Caroline Stratton stands out to some Jefferson Airplane affinity. Guitarist Dean Keady, with his jazzy effects, leads the band. This is a very much anticipated release and a sure buy for all collectors. |

Gentleman's Pistols - Gentleman's Pistols. CD.
(Rise Above Records - RISECD098)
Before even releasing an album and with just a handful of 7" only vinyl releases, the Gentleman's Pistols have already gained themselves a legendary cult status amongst the modern punk scene. These guys have been demolishing the toilets up and down the UK ever since their formation in 2003. Their ten track debut deals with only the most important of issues that effect the modern day man, self-love, dogging, smack addiction and heavy petting (in the Zoo). No political punk will be found here, this is no frills, downright dirty, greasy Rock & Roll from a highly entertaining Leeds based four piece. | ![]() |

Heavy Breathing Vol 1 - Bite It - Various. CD.
(Normal - N293CD)
Cd that compiles finest examples of Greasy listening, Exotica, Obscure beats and curious Sextronica! Compilations of erotic songs or sexy album covers are nothing new but " heavy breathing!" is something else! There's never been a series like this wide-ranging cross-genre collection of songs. The story of heavy breathing in pop music didn't begin in 1969 with "Je t'aime... moi non plus"(Birkin & Gainsbourg). Looking back, there have been lots of other songs that dare to combine brazen eroticism and pop. There might not be a collective name for hot and steamy songs from every genre, but there are some collectors.Like IntimDJ Cpt. Schneider from Munich, who has built up a wide-ranging collection of "ecstatic songs" which now runs to more than sixty hours of music. Between the many hits and flops and hidden treasures he's unearthed are tracks that are absolutely incredible, weird and obscurely bizarre.Covering a huge period (from 1951 to 2006), this gold-digging expedition in the world of pop has sifted out many an exclusive nugget of horny-phonics. Tracks : 1 Intro 2 Sexe RENAUD,LINE 3 Hiasmina SEBERG,JEAN 4 Exotic Dance HOSONO,HARUOMI 5 The Jungle Chase CHAINO AND HIS AFRICAN PERCUSSION SAFARI 6 A Train TENDER 7 Wet Lips BAMGBOLA,JOY 8 Come With Me RARE EARTH 9 Orgasmic Blues FAB 10 Orgasm SIRENEE 11 Erotica RITA 12 Me And My Vibrator SEACELL,SUZIE 13 Bite It HAWKINS,SCREAMIN' JAY 14 Groovy GROOVERS,THE 15 Little Girl JOHN & JACKIE 16 My Game Of Loving WHITE NOISE 17 Zoom Party ORCHESTER ALBERT VAN DAM 18 Bedspring Symphony EROTICA |

Incredible String Band - Wee Tam And The Big Huge 2 CD Set. Dble CD.
(Collectors Choice - CCM2902)
The classic 1968 double album (split in the USA into two albums) is a treasure trove of UK acid folk hippie strangeness including the bizarre "Air" "The Iron Stone" and the achingly beautiful lament of "The Circle Is Unbroken". Features founding members Robin Williamson (organ, bass, flute, guitar, percussion, piano, violin, drums, harpsichord, kaZoo, whistle, sarangui, gimbri, and Irish harp) and Mike Heron (organ, bass, guitar, harmonica, harpsichord, sitar, and washboard) as well as their significant others, Christina "Liquorice" McKechnie (vocals, percussion, and Irish harp) and Rose Simpson (violin, bass, and vocals). A masterpiece. | ![]() |

(Past And Present - PAPRCD 2055)
Volume 4 in the classic swinging series continues - Groovy Hammond sounds, swinging horn sections, spacey sitars, jangling guitars, jazzy flute excursions, they’re all here. From the spy movie chic of The Reg Guest Syndicate to the psychedelic orchestrations of The Gabrieli Brass. Dig the mellow eastern vibe of Andy Summers & Zoot Money’s ‘Soma’, move to the cool soul of Music Through Six. Evocative, smooth, rocking, eminently danceable and very cool. Those Instro-Hipsters are back to iron out your mental creases. Don’t fight it, just let it wash over you. We have obtained a few copies of this deleted title. | ![]() |

All the members of the band had already enjoyed ample success in music before musician/actor Emmanuel Booz brought them together in 1971: Jean-Pierre Pouret was a well-known session-man for Sylvie Vartan; brothers Alain and Bernard Labacci released albums as Tom & Jerry, and supported Jimi Hendrix for a TV appearance; Michel Bonnecarrere had founded the band Zoo (one of Andy Votel from the B-Music label’s favorites), and was one of the composers, arrangers and musicians for that group’s first two albums. Apropos of the period, the band members decided to live together as a small family in Flagy, a small town in France, where they lived a happy life, and wrote the tracks which adorn this reissue. This ambitious album somehow manages to blend grungy psychedelic rock, acoustic blues, and densely orchestrated French pop/psych (in an Ilous & Decuyper vein) into an impressive and cohesive whole. Sandy Spencer, cellist and member of Mormos contributed wonderful playing on ‘Ne cherche plus’ and ‘Inachevée.’ This reissue includes the original album plus eight bonus tracks in English meant to be the basis of an international album that was never issued. A fulsome 28-page booklet includes band history and commentaries on the songs written by Ophiucus, photos, lyrics (French and English), and a contemporary review. Not to be missed! | ![]() |

Perez Prado - ! Primal ! The Mambo King. CD.
(Rev Ola - CRREV68)
The Mambo, a wild and exotic musical form and dance that swept the Latino world in the late 1940s, and unbelievably went on to become a huge pop phenomenon worldwide! It's originator was Perez Prado, Cuba's gift to the world; The Prez! El Bombero! EL ANIMAL!!!These are his long lost original Latino hits, far wilder and more ethnic than his later pop repertoire. Recorded in Mexico City, centre of the record/film business then as now, every one of these absolutely wild and uncompromising numbers was a major hit! How could they not be?! Never before featured on CD, Primal features 26 of Prado’s Latino market mega-hits between 1949-1953. The combination of soaring Stan Kenton-inspired trumpets and saxes with the most backwoods afro-cuban percussion yet heard on record lost Prado his jobs at swanky Habana hotels, but ultimately, against the odds, made him a star! The insane leaping about and animal exclamations which were his in-performance trademarks are all over these wonderful live-in-the-studio recordings, proof that the world pre-Rock 'n' Roll did not lack Rock 'N' Roll madmen! Prado was the daddy of them all! The Mambo King in Zoot Suit and fedora, driving them all insane! Featuring the out-there vocals of Cuba's most legendary and beloved singer, Beny More we defy you to keep still when this hits the deck. And lest you think of Prado as a figure from prehistory, how's this as a performer and songwriter: "Guaglione" (you know the one: NE-NER NER, NE-NER NER NE-NER NE- NER NER, DADADADADAPPP) was a number one hit in the UK in 1995 after being featured in a Guinness beer commercial; the compposer had been idolised and sampled by everyone from Lionrock to Nurse With Wound, "Patricia" was adopted as the theme for the HBO documentary series Real Sex; and "Mambo No. 5", Prado's first hit single, was adapted into the unnervingly catchy novelty hit "Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit Of...)" by Lou Bega in 1999... now hear where it all began. | ![]() |

Rain - Live, Christmas Night. CD.
(Radioactive - RRCD110)
Another custom-pressed rarity to delight and amaze, this time from the New York outfit, Rain which appeared in 1971 on the WhaZoo label (USR3046). So rare that even average copies are fetching up to $500. The lads assembled a cohort of their chums, clearly awash with Christmas spirit, to cheer them through a selection of Stones (and other's) covers. As one Rain devotee recently enthused, "Anyone for this one helluva rawkin' gem! These guys sound like the Rolling Stones on crack. The vocalist has Jagger down to a T, the only real difference here...they really do turn the amps up to 11. But as for the music....it's jammy and twice as better [sic] than anything the Stones could ever conjure". So there you have it. Ignore this album at your peril! Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST THREE COPIES. | ![]() |

Ruby Turner - Suspicious Again- The Indigo Sessions. Dble CD.
(Castle - CMDDD1220)
Double CD reissue of two excellent albums made by Ruby (the UK's premier traditional soul'n'blues diva, to those who don't know) in 1996 and 1998 respectively for Indigo Records. On the first, the backing musicians included the Norma Beaker Band, with a guest appearance from Jools Holland, and the material ranges from standards ('Wang Dang Doodle' 'Ain't Nobody' 'A Rockin' Good Way') to more contemporary blues and soul material: on the second she is backed by an all-star lineup of Bobby Tench (Jeff Beck Group), Zoot Money, Boz Burrell (King Crimson/ Bad Company) and Stan Webb (Chicken Shack) and features nine of her own compositions. Not bad for someone whose career first took off as a backing singer for dodgy 80s pop acts!! | ![]() |

Shorty Rogers - The Sweetheart Of Sigmund Freud. Dble CD.
(Giant Step Records - GSCR009)
A fairly extensive compilation that follows in chronological order the extraordinary career of this West Coast big band/bebop trumpeter, who took the influence of swing stylists such as Harry James and Roy Eldridge and updated them for the post-Gillespie generation. Besides being involved in the soundtracks to both 'The Man With The Golden Arm' and 'The Wild One' he was also, alongside Bud Shank and Bob Cooper, the co-leader of several highly respected West Coast combos (all generally known as the Giants) and a founding member of The Lighthouse All Stars alongside bassist Howard Rumsey. This anthology includes the complete 'Cool & Crazy' date and the Wild One themes, and details his exploits with Woody Herman and Stan Kenton (the bands of which he was a crucial part of), Red Norvo, Maynard Ferguson (a trumpeter whose tone was the polar opposite of Shorty's, yet the two complimented each other brilliantly) and Louis Bellson: some of the musicians featured include Art Pepper, Shelly Manne, Stan Getz, Zoot Sims, Conte Candoli, Jimmy Giuffre, Hampton Hawes and the aforementioned Shank and Cooper. Phew!! With a lineup like that who cares about sleevenotes? They are, however, by the legendary Roy Carr. | ![]() |

Too Hot! - The Best Of Mainstream Jazz - Various. 3-CD Set.
(Castle - CMETD992)
In the 50s, Mainstream was the HOT new action in Jazz. Sitting in-between Swing and Modern Jazz, it overlapped into both. It required inspiration and outstanding musicianship in equal parts, and was more deeply satisfying than the banjo-driven Trad which was, at the time, finding wider favour with the UK public. In the US, Norman Granz was the ringmaster and his Mainstream circus included Dizzy Gillespie, Coleman Hawkins, Oscar Peterson, Zoot Sims, Lester Young, etc. Denis Preston wanted to be the British Norman Granz - which was fortunate indeed, as nobody else in the UK seemed able to record the music at that time. Unlike Granz, Preston had radical ideas about recording techniques - he'd even built the Lansdowne Studio, where he achieved near-perfect sound recordings - and he went on to produce a massive library of Jazz classics for the Nixa label. The music here is world class and centres on a natural giant, the spine-chilling trumpeter Kenny Baker. The finest mainstream Kenny ever played is here, and he is backed by inspired sidemen like Bruce Turner, George Chisholm, Eddie Thompson, Phil Seamen, Don Rendell, Poggy Pogson, etc. Also featured are men like Kenny Graham, Wally Foulkes, Dill Jones, Tony Cowe, etc. But the assembled ranks bristle with outstanding performers, and there are giants on every instrument. Never before, or since, did British Jazz musicians play with such fire and verve. | ![]() |

Toyah - The Safari Records Singles Collection Vol 1 1979-81. CD.
(Cherry Red - CDMRED266)
First of two volumes documenting the classic era of this much-underrated Birmingham vocalist and actress, now married to Robert Fripp. Alongside Siouxsie Sioux, Hazel O Connor, Lene Lovich and some might even say Kate Bush, Toyah Wilcox epitomised the new-found propensity for eccentric female vocalists in the post-punk, post-Rock Follies era: this CD compilation includes, alongside genuine hit single 'It's A Mystery' several unsung avant-garde New Wave classics such as 'Ieya' 'Neon Womb' 'Danced' and 'Victims Of The Riddle' all of which demonstrate why Toyah was somewhat unique and ripe for rediscovery. Detailed sleeve notes include quotes from Mrs Fripp herself. "Zi-on- Zoober-ron. . ." | ![]() |

Wazoo - Wazoo. CD.
(World In Sound Records - WIS1033)
From Detroit a weird experimental psych outfit from 1970. Originally the band was hired by 'Zig Zag Records' to record cover tunes and easy listening. Originals are rare and pretty unknown among psych collectors until now! The 7 songs with an average length of 7 mins combine different styles of music, from heavy garage rock to bluesy west coast, drifting into various tripped-out, funk, jazz, fusion elements with humorous/social comments. Structure, feeling and complexity can be compared to experimental Krautrock, while the group´s basic sound is represented better by end-60s US Hippie Rock as Country Joe & the Fish or The Head Shop with its excessive fuzz guitar work, Farfisa organ, amazing vocals, lots of unexpected mixing, with flashes of UK´s legendary "White Noise". This CD issue contains a 12 p. colour booklet with a band´s bio, and the cool original album design, made by John Williams who also worked for Zappa - so it can be assumed which influences Zappa used for his 1972, 'Grand WaZoo' album?!?This is a unique piece of early 70s psychedelia! | ![]() |

Zoot Money & His Big Roll Band - A Big Time Operator. Dble CD.
(Castle - CMDDD1219)
Detailed and expansive compilation of the works of a true 'face' of the UK 60s music scene, rivalled only maybe by Brian Auger and Georgie Fame in his reputation as a master of groovin' Rn'B and psychedelic Hammond jazz. Disc 1, and the first 10 tracks of Disc 2, are the real megillah: 100 percent hard and fast Mod rhythm and blues the way that Meaden described it, played by the classic Big Roll Band lineup of Zoot, Andy Summers, Colin Allen, Paul Williams (not the American pianist), Herbie Goins, Nick Newall, Johnny Almond (later a Bluesbreaker) and Geoff Condon, recorded live in the ballrooms of London in 1965 and 1966. Close your eyes and smell the bubblegum!! The other tracks on Disc 2 are from Money's solo career circa 1972, and also from the 1995 Alexis Korner Memorial Concert, where not one ounce of Zoot's exuberance has diminished. Musicians on these cuts include Colin Hodgkinson (later of Back Door and, er, Whitesnake) jazz supremos Ray Warleigh and Alan Skidmore (the latter of whom was of course later known for Kate Bush's "Saxophone Song") and Tim Franks. Liner notes and interviews conducted by David Wells, and the booklet includes "rare ephemera". | ![]() |
