Sonny Clark - Dial S For Sonny. CD. (Blue Note - 8753382) Recorded in 1957, this laidback set of Bop originals and standards is an early highlight of Sonny's career. Featuring Art Farmer, Curtis Fuller, Hank Mobley, Wilbur Ware and Louis Hayes as his backing band, this is Clark's record; his soloing ability is really coming into its own here. The original six tracks (with an additional bonus mono version of "Bootin' It") mix straight ahead, edgy bop with ballads.
