A Night At The Wine Cellar - Various. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD158)

Recorded at The Garardelli Wine Cellar in San Francisco in 1978, this album (which apeared on the appropriately-named Cabernet Recordings label) features 12 different artists and duos strutting their musical stuff. The vibe is country/folk/blues and the array of acoustic instruments deployed here with such competence brings a down-home warmth and richness to the sound of this beautifully-recorded album that only acoustic instruments can. From the Country Joe sound of Billy Roberts and his acoustic guitar, to Tim Dawe’s musings on his chances of achieving chart success, Live At The Wine Cellar delivers the goods unerringly. Dawe is undoubtedly the big name here, and as befits his top-of-the-bill status, is encouraged to delight the audience twice with vocalist and collaborator Patricia Pickens and on one further occasion with hispreviously-mentioned solo excursion. Sandwiched inbetween are a selection of musical cameos, including a classical guitar piece from Leo Collignon, a wry homage to FM radio courtesy of John Palme, some lovely guitar picking from Jim Nels and a display of harmonica virtuosity from Billy Roberts. Canadian folk singer Skip Henderson delivers a thoughtful rendering of the traditional folk song, "The Water Is Wide" and singer Dev Singh moistens the eye with a heart-felt version of "Amazing Grace". And then we’re back to Tim Dawe, whose144 Boogies (yes, he does actually manage to sing the word 'boogie' 144 times) closes the CD. All in all, a highly rewarding, entertaining album that sounds absolutely fabulous. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST COPY.

Alexis Korner - R'n'B From The Marquee. LP, £12 (Radioactive - RRLP036)

Numbered 180 gram vinyl pressing of this album recorded live at London's Marquee in 1962 and released on Decca's Ace Of Clubs label the same year. On this set Alexis is joined by Long John Baldry who shares the vocal honours with Cyril Davies, pianist Keith Scott, future Johnny Dankworth bassist Spike Heatley, drummer Graham Burbridge, former mainstay of Chris Barber's rhythm section, and the ubiquitous Dick Heckstall-Smith, later to team up with John Mayall prior to joining Colosseum, wailing away on sax. The album itself is a raw, unpretentious British take on American blues, ranging from the early rural and country blues right through to the electric Chicago sound of Chess. Featuring a blend of originals and covers it ranks amongst the first division of '60s British blues recordings. Highly recommended.

Ashes - Featuring Pat Taylor. CD, £4.4 (Radioactive - RRCD173)

Formed in Santa Monica as Young Swingers and released two singles in 1965. By 1966 the band had become the Ashes, along with a change in personnel - bassist Cherniss dropped out, while drummer Dryden quit to join Jefferson Airplane. The band continued, signed with Vault Recs and released two 45s, within a couple of months Brackett and Merrill formed Peanut Butter Conspiracy. 1968 saw Brackett and Merrill drop out of PBC and reform The Ashes with new singer Pat Taylor and drummer John Voight. The album offered up a mix of country, folk, rock and psych touches. Taylor was gifted with a razor sharp voicesimilar to Grace Slick. Her performances on tracks such as 'Gone To Sorrow', 'Return Home' and 'Look Around Rock' are all first-rate. For some reason the album was shelved where it sat until Vault released it in 1971. Overall an excellent slice of mid-60s South Cal psyche available for the first time on CD.Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST SIX COPIES.

Autumn People - Autumn People. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD030)

This album from the obscure Arizonan band has recently generated interest from collectors and originals are now very expensive. Released in 1976 on the studio's Soundtech label the music is mid-'70s psychy progressive rock with nice harmonies, decent melodies and guitarist Larry Clark contributes some solid fretwork to the proceedings. Similar in places to Brimstone. The material is largely original, and the band jointly produced the album. All in all an interesting hippie progressive album with some swirling organ work and super guitar leads. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST FEW COPIES.

Originally released in 1971 this Australian underground act recorded this moody progressive album which contained European influenced hard rock full of sprawling, progressive rock cuts like "Faith to Sing a Song",the jazzy "Living With A Memory" & "Holocaust" through to an eight minute barrage of bombastic riffs on the "Gift" which features great solo's and swirling Hammond organ in the vein of Deep Purple and Leafhound.

Beat Of The Earth - The Beat Of The Earth. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD060)

Phil Pearlman, whose Relatively Clean Rivers album is well known to US '60's/70's psych collectors, assembled this 1967 free form outfit very much in the spirit of The Merry Pranksters and their legendary San Francisco Acid Tests. Made up of unstructured, stoned jams with a West Coast edge the two long tracks using a myriad assortment of acoustic and electronic instruments. This is an item of significance from the California '60s counter cultural rock scene and as the sleeve say's "If you are looking for psychedelic music, do not buy this record unless you are looking for psychedelic music". Very weird and fried! Last 2 copies before deletion.

Black Orchids - AWOL. CD, £4 (Radioactive - RRCD177)

Black Orchids hailed from Charleston, West Virginia and consisted of John Wehde, Rob Hamer and Paul Bennington. In 1974 they pressed 'AWOL', their sole output, on their own Black Orchids Records label in a tiny edition of 200 copies. The album came in a plain white sleeve, shrinkwrapped with the title and band info written on the outside of the shrink with a marker pen. You can imagine how many of these survived intact! The album consists of one track "AWOL" which was recorded live and being 29 minutes long was spread over the two sides of the LP. This CD version has the track rejoined as one continuous piece. Black Orchids were an early 70's U.S. power trio and present here an instrumental only journey of psychedelic hard rock that is more Cream than Hendrix. For the most part the music is a heavy Blues jam with many tempo changes and plenty of feedback. There is a connection here between the old Progressive style and the New Wave of music, at times they sound like a Curtis-less Joy Division. There is also a feeling here of UFO’s 2nd album the space rock jam "Flying". Overall a recommended and rare piece of psychedelia. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST FEW COPIES.

Champignons - Premiere Capsule. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD089)

Excellent mostly-instrumental combination of prog and psych served up by a tight and experimental band from Quebec. Released in 1972, resplendent in its trippy day-glo mushroom sleeve, is a succession of seven guitar driven original compositions that manage to maintain any incredibly high standard from start to finish. All the tracks are superb, but several in particular stand out including the 11-minute experimental jam, Le Chateau Hante (The Haunted Castle) and two instrumental number s, Folies Du Mercredi and Pop-Pino. There is extremely good fuzz guitar throughout, as well as some exceptional flute solos courtesy of flautist Emile Naud. Unfortunately this is the only known album from Les Champignons. Chariot - Chariot. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD103)

Chariot's lone musical offering, this eponymous release with its stunning artwork, appeared in 1968. Chariot, which evolved out of a '60s outfit called The Knack, are often described as a Cream-influenced blues/psych trio, although to many ears their sound exhibits more than a hint of a classic flower power groove, with some decidedly progressive touches. Although the other band members seem to have disappeared without trace, English-born drummer Pug Baker went on to play with a number of minor bands, such as the RCA-signed Rocking Horse, and Waves, a group that enjoyed a short tenure with Epic. Baker is still bashing the skins, and is currently plying his trade with southern rockers Ghost Riders. Another extremely good album disinterred from the vaults of psych obscurity. Concrete Rubber Band - Risen Saviour. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD108)

First ever reissue of rare release by this Missiouri based American Artists label. Only 2 copies in private colections are known to exist. It's an unusual rock album which just happens to have religious undertones- mixing Christian psychedelia at its most extreme with synthesised bubbling lava pits, frequency oscillations, distorted sci-fi vocals and short wave static patters. The album is littered by some of the most extreme fuzz guitar you'll ever hear, loads of scatty electronic effects and a flying saucer sequence right out of Dark side of the moon. The whole project has an dense and murky feel. Recorded in the band's living room on a 2-track tape recorder. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST FOUR COPIES.

Cosmic Michael - After A While. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD166)

‘ I am a child of Woodstock nation, I’ve come a long way from my home....’So sings the one and only Cosmic Michael, on this the opening track of his second album released by the Blisslabel in 1970. An album now high on serious psych collector wants lists too...Cosmic Michael? Well, some regard him as a ‘Godhead’, the ultimate spiritual hippy, with songs of love, freedom& peace, all delivered with just piano, vocals and, kazoo(?)...A true guru...But, what of the music? I guess these days you’d call it loner psych, but back then the term ‘freak rock’might have been applied to such a release...After his eponymous, and equally enigmatic debut album released a year earlier, he’d witnessed the Woodstock festival, absorbed the vibe, and relocated to Los Angeles where he then recorded this. The nine tracks are stoned 70’s DIY rock ‘n’roll. You can call it lo-fi or home made, but the message remains...Cosmic Michael preaches love and freedom, and is a mean boogie-woogie player too.‘I am a child of Woodstock nation, a simple song is all I carry. . . . .’You’ve been warned. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST TWO COPIES.

What a superb '70's US rock album this is boasting high production values throughout and apart from its rocking 12-bar opener, features some of the best hard rock psych you're likely to hear, with some outstanding flute in the Ian Anderson style and some fine synth work augmented by some strong piano and accompanying strings. Many tracks feature some decidedly jazzy interludes. A well produced and brilliantly executed album which is sure to delight the discerning listener. Crash Coffin - Crash Coffin. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD)

The self titled debut album by this Ohio based songwriter was released privately on the Mus-i-Col label in 1970 backed by a full band. All copies that exist have uniquesleeves made by Crash himself. The actual finished sleeves he claimed were destroyed by fire, but he likes a tale to tell! Truth is, the cost of producing finished sleevesproved to be too expensive! Reviews claim the music to be rural acid psychedelia. Well maybe...Really, he’s a living history of American popular music! It ’s easy to hear how much he admires Elvis. Several of the songs, particularly the tender ballad Lilly, show the King is an influence, but there’s also Dylan too, with his humorous take on the issues of the time. Women ’s Liberation, space travel, andreligion all get the ‘Crash’ treatment, with the confident support of rock ‘n’roll, blues, country and jug band styles. Each of the ten tracks exhibit a fine grasp of song craft, are very musical, and certainly entertaining listening. The man himself remains an enigma, but this album wouldn’t be the last we’d hear from him. A second album, equally as rare, with the amazing title Crash Coffin and the United States Yahoo Funky Punky Jug Band followed in 1984 (seems he was in no rush!) and further explored his jug band roots. But that’s another story. . .For now, sit back and enjoy the Crash Coffin experience, unearthed and digitalised foryour listening pleasure by Radioactive. A fine American music album!

Originally released on the infamous Tiger Lily label in 1976 ,the self-titled album by the melodic country-rock outfit Dakota is one ofthe most charming of ‘70s West Coast style albums, and finally receives adigital reissue here...Wait a second, ‘infamous’ Tiger Lily label?Well, so they say, Tiger Lily was a tax scam label run by the head of Roulette, Morris Levy. Whatever the rumour, the label had taste, the Stonewall album for example, plus of course this hitherto overlookedgem. Reflective songs dominate, each one short and bittersweet. T h e r e ’s a hint of Neil Young, particularly in the vocals, but these guys can really play too. Check out the piano and guitar licks! Finally, after 38 years here is the original unadulterated mix of this classic 1966 US album that many claim is the first true psychedelic record. Every other issue of this album has featured a horrible re-mix with all of the sound effects inexplicably removed. Dryewater - Southpaw. CD, £11 (Radioactive - RRCD161)

Now a highly regarded release among the collectors of early 70’s U.S.rock, Dryewater’s Southpaw album was privately released to littlefanfare on the J.T.B. label in 1974. The North Carolina based four piece pressed just 500 copies of the album (fewer still with actual covers!) and the rarity value of this initial release has since increased as it’s since become known that the band destroyed the copies they failed to sell at the time! Maybe they had higher expectations for the album, and this is justifiable, as in hindsight the ten original compositions show a very confident release by an obviously proficient line up. Strong rhythm guitar work forms the basis of most of the songs, but also evident is some melodic, perhaps slightly progressive keyboard work, that both underpins the occasional acid lead guitar solos and maintains the overall momentum of each performance. With a tight rhythm section and strong vocals too, this all makes for a rockin’ rollercoaster ride. A fine example of the harder West Coast sound of the time.THIS IS THE LAST COPY OF THIS DELETED RADIOACTIVE TITLE.

Fat Water hail from the west coast of America and fit very nicely into the dual male /female lead vocals of the late 60's and early '70s. Federal Duck - Federal Duck. CD, £10 (Radioactive - RRCD160)

An extremely rare LP that first appeared on the Musicor label in 1968.(the band also featured on Fading Yellow Vol 7). Formed by banjo exponent George Stavis, Federal Duck (named after the Federal Duck Stamp Program which was enacted by conservationist Jay 'Ding' Darling and US President Franklin D Roosevelt in 1934), produced this lone musical effort which, once you get past the very psychedelic cover, contains a consistently-good album which is mildly jazzy, has some fine bass and an ever-present darkish vibe. There are a few upbeat mouldbreaking songs (one even sounds like the Holy Modal Rounders) but generally a soft-psych feel pervades throughout. However, the relationship was destined to last for just the one album, with Stavis departing soon after to form the Californian communal rock band Oganookie and then to record an eponymous album for Vanguard.LAST COPY FROM THE DELETED RADIOACTIVE RANGE.

H e r e ’s another little musical gem, this time featuring the indisputable talents of guitarist and singer/songwriter Steve Ono and his chums aka Folly’s Pool. Originally a private pressing released in 1977 on Century Records under the stewardship of Fresno-born Ono, the album sees the band take us on a tour de force of acoustic-based rural rock with folk, prog and country influences often in the background. At times Folly’s Pool sounds like they’re trying to be The Eagles or Loggins & Messina, but in many ways this does the band a disservice as they have successfully created an individual approach to their music which often turns the ordinary into the exceptional (the cunning transformation from folk to prog of "Jig In A" is worth the price of admission alone) and the high standard of everything the band plays (the stunning electric guitar solos are particularly fine) makes this album one to get one's teeth into! Unfortunately this was their only album. Folly ’s Pool is an unusual album which could have achieved some commercial success had it been released and promoted by a major label. Ah well.

Footch Kapoot - Good Clean Fun. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD111)

Originally released in 1978, this is the US outfit's only known release, and is an album of whimsical eccentricity which defies musical catagorisation. All 6 band members are virtuosos of their own chosen instrument. The album rocks at times, then leans back and gives us a soft shoe shuffle. There's incredible honky-tonk piano, as well as crazy clarinet made stranger by the use of a reed modulator. The slide and lead guitars are slick and effortless, the drumming as tight as it comes and the harmonies blend together as one angelic voice. Beautiful recorded, strange and compelling. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST TWO COPIES.

This, their debut album was recorded at Abbey Road early in 1969 and featured completely original material, with their strangely-sculptured melodies and partially improvised accompaniment. Francisco - Cosmic Beam Experience. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD112)

Actually the L.A. based Francisco Lupica, a versatile musician at home with electric and acoustic guitars, percussion and his capacity as a singer well versed in unusual vocal effects. This 70's album, with its unusual cosmic cover, is strangely compelling, and beautifully recorded with a combination of acoustic and electric instruments, vocal chorus and trance inducing sounds. Standing out as one of the earliest examples of the New Age movement which had to come years after its release, it nevertheless has more energy than half the works recorded under that banner. Hans Zimmer sampled the "Cosmic beam" motif as the soundtrack to Terrence Mallic's 1998 film "Thin Red Line".Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST FEW COPIES.

Golgotha - Old Seeds Bootleg. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD126)

This band, which was formed around guitarist Bruce Scofield in 1969, gigged around the New York area for a couple of years. When Jubille Records finally got them into the studio in the early 70's the band laid down an accesible album reminiscent of the sound of Little Feat and Mountain Bus. 12 self penned guitar tracks, all of which are brilliantly played, tend to get pretty heavy and "out there" at times. 5-piece progressive hard rock outfit from Kentucky. Released in 1972 the guitar, bass, drums keyboards and vocal style owes much to the influence of Uriah Heep. The CD contains 7 finely-crafted self-penned songs with flair and originality. With it's stunning artwork, this is Goliath's only known release (confusingly, another band of the same name had already released an album on CBS in 1970) and an album that would not have been disgraced by comparison with many of the hard rock offerings of the time and still stands up extremely well today. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title - LAST COPY

Hangmen - Bitttersweet. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD168)

After appearing on several compilations in recent years (including Pebbles &Signed D.C.) the Hangmen finally have their sole album reissued on CD! Formerly known as The Reekers and based in Washington D.C., the Hangmen were centred around the talents of guitarist Tom Guernsey and put out three 45 ’s, plus the album Bittersweet, in that groundbreaking year of 1966. Originally released on Monument , the album is a fine example of the U.S. mid 60’s sound whether it’s close harmony soft pop, or a stomp through some fuzzed beat/ garage/ R&B.Their first two classic 45’s (the harmonica driven punk of What a Girl Can’t Do, and the gentle fuzz of Faces) are both reworked on the album, and included alongside cover versions of Dream Baby (‘psyched’ with a hint of sitar), Let It Be Me, and an extended workout of Van Morrison’s Gloria. Elsewhere theBritish Invasion presence is evident as well as the closer to home sounds of The Byrds and Lovin’ Spoonful. Groovy listening from beginning to end! But in1966, the times were still a-changing, musical boundaries too, leaving many bands including the Hangmen behind. Thankfully though, what’s not been allowed to slip away here is this innocent reminder of that goldenage...Bittersweet by the Hangmen! - LAST FEW COPIES OF THIS DELETED RADIOACTIVE TITLE.

Jack London & The Sparrows - Jack London & The Sparrows. CD, £4 (Radioactive - RRCD139)

CD re-issue of this legendary piece of jangly garage beat rock from the mid '60s. Originally released in 1965 on the Capitol label, this legendary Canadian band has bone fide pre-Steppenwolf connections! The group was originally based in Toronto and enjoyed success with a handful of Mersey beat singles and this eponymous album. Wanting other things Jack London (not his real name, we venture!!) left and in came John Kay who hooked up with the rest of the band and became The Sparrows, although Kay was soon to depart for Los Angeles to find fame and fortune as a founding member of Steppenwolf. The album contains a number of stand-out tracks, with If You Don't Want My Love and Its Been One of Those Days being particularly memorable sounding very much like US '60's frat band The Rising Storm. Jack London and the Sparrows is one of the rarest and most collectable of the Canadian Capitol albums! Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST COPY OF THIS DELETED CD

When folkrock singer/songwriter Jake Holmes opened up for the Yardbirds in New York, august 1967, little did he suspect that one of his songs "Dazed and Confused" would become one of Led Zeppelin's major live showpieces. Holmes had worked with the likes of Tim Rose before he made this solo recording, originally released on the Tower label in 1967. The album is considered a folk rock masterpiece and was described at the time as "a songwriter, three guitars and a mirror". While the innovations and variations which were an integral part of his live performances with the Experience, here we find him surrounded by a different group of musicians doing what he loved best; jamming in front of a live audience in small, intimate venues, in this case, New York's Cafe A Go Go and The Generation Club. These 2 sessions, recorded by Hendrix himself, feature Elvin Bishop, Buddy Miles, B B King and Al Kooper in support as well! Hendrix's playing is simply outstanding throughout, as is the sound quality which, apart from the subdued vocal on T-Bone Walker's Stormy Monday Blues, is fantastic. Here, then, we have the guitarist doing what he obviously enjoyed, doing it superbly, and with the assistance of some top musicians assembled for the occasion.Double numbered 180g vinyl edition

Jimi Hendrix - Live At L'Olympia Paris, 29th Jan 1968. Pic Disc LP, £10 (Radioactive - RRPD055)

Picture disc version of this Hendrix performance, limited to 1000 copies only and beautifully designed. This was Hendrix's first headlining show at L'Olympia in Paris (he had performed there 15 months earlier as support to the "French Elvis" Johnny Halliday!) and it came at a time when the Experience where at their peak both creatively and commercially, they had just cracked America following their explosive performance at the Monteray Festival in the summer of 1967. Due to this new popularity in the USA the Experience would never return to France, prefering to play to American audiences who clamoured to see their guitar god. The set presented here is done so in fantastic audio quality and the playing is, of course, exemplary. Every Hendrix fan has their favourite live show but this one is well worth a listen for each and everyone. Due In: 16/08/2004

Jimi Hendrix - Live At The LA Forum Vol 1. Pic Disc LP, £13.5 (Radioactive - RR1PD055)

Stunning picture disc limited to 1000 copies only. If one live album had been released before his death, this is the one that Hendrix would have chosen ahead of all the others. In fact, Hendrix and Eddie Kramer actually prepared mixes of the show, but unfortunately their efforts never saw the light of day in their entireity until now. Just two months after the legendary Albert Hall concert in London, Hendrix and the band hit LA six dates into what was to be The Experience's last US tour. Against the backdrop of a beligerant, cop-baiting audience, Hendrix delivers one of his finest live performances. Witty, colourful, controlled and simply sensational an LA Image reporter wrote after the show "it will probably be a long time before this performance is equalled at the Forum - probably as long as it takes for the Jimi Hendrix Experience to return there". Regretably for all concerned (exceot, possibly, the LAPD) they never did. Tracklisting: Intro; Tax Free; Foxy Lady; Red House; Spanish Castle Magic.

Jimi Hendrix - Live In Copenhagen. Pic Disc LP, £13.5 (Radioactive - RRPD088)

The seven tracks included on this limited picture disc LP were taken from gigs that Jimi Hendrix and The Experience performed in Copenhagen between 1968 and 1970. Never before officially released until now, these rare audience recordings are made up of the whole of The Experience's 2nd show at Copenhagen's Falkoner Centret in 1969, as well as Tax Free from the band's earlier show on the same day, Catfish blues from the band's 1968 gig at the Tivolis Koncertsal and Freedom, recorded at the K.B Hallen in September 1970, only two weeks before the young guitarist's tragic death. Not only a historical document but from the slow blues guitar of Catfish Blues to the tight ensemble playing of Freedom this is Jimi Hendrix and The Experience at their most compelling, playing live for the few fortunate enough to have witnessed such an earth shattering spectacle. Third and final album of studio out-takes spanning Jimi Hendrix's all-too brief career from 1966 to 1970, finds the guitarist back in America and recording at Electric Ladyland and The Record Plant. We are again invited to follow Hendrix as he endeavours to fashion loose musical ideas into developed songs or frameworks for his electrifying live jams. The emphasis here, as with the previous two studio out-take releases is on sound quality as much as musical content, although it is fair to say that every track, no matter how unstructured and occasionally incomplete it may sound, is yet another illuminating insight into the creative process of probably the greatest rock guitarist of our timeNOW DELETED THIS IS THE LAST EVER COPY - NUMBERED.

Another extremely rare record from Radioactive. Originally only pressed privately in 1974 in a quantity of 500 records, this terrific album has been a collector's favourite for years now and deservedly so! Ranging in style from Jimmy Page-esque power chords and guitar breaks to the dual engine guitars of Z Z Top and also including a wonderful 9 minute jam of jazzy flute and sax a la Jethro Tull or Traffic. John Schroeder - The Dolly Catcher. CD, £4.5 (Radioactive - RRCD107)

The Dolly Catcher is a highly original little effort from the British answer to Burt Bacharach, this '60s "easy" legend is probably best known for his production work, producing the Eurovision runner-up by Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson's Sing Little Birdie. After a short stint with Columbia, Schroeder spent 2 productive years at Oriole, at the time the UK's only truly independent label, before departing for Pye, where he wrote for and produced artists such as Status Quo, Geno Washington and renewed his association with Helen Shapiro. In The Dolly Catcher, (the curious title probably has something to do with pulling "dolly birds", or girls) which is widely recognised as an "easy" classic, Schroeder managed to merge fuzz guitar and organ with sweeping strings and brass producing an album that is al ways interesting, and at times, genuinely ground breaking, particularly in the form of his legendary take on Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds which he covered in such an original way.Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST TWO COPIES.

Joint Effort - Final Effort. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD153)

This 1974 album, with its immediately recognisable M.C. Escher cover, is best described as a weird mix of early CSNY and Timbercreek with a dash of early Eagles thrown in.The first side, with the superb "Winter" particularly impressive, is largely acoustic hippy folk rock with the occasional electric guitar thrown in for good measure. Side 2, however, is an altogether rockier affair with stand out tracks "Greed For Gold" and an up-tempo fuzzed-out cover of "Horse With No Name" combining effectively to round off the album. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST FIVE COPIES.

A Texan '60s acid rock burner.... Reissue of late 60s folk/psych album by husband and wife. Yester had enjoyed an element of fame with The Lovin' Spoonful. "Farewell Aldebran" is often heralded as one of the most proficient and creative albums in its genre, with Henske's incredible range of vocal styles. Her mind blowing vocals on the opening track, the hard-fuzzed "Snowblind", gives an early clue to her talent and range. They attempted to scale the same artistic heights with their next collaboration Rosebud, it was not to be. Loot - Singles A's & B's. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD057)

Hailing from Andover in Hampshire, The Loot were strongly influenced by Dave Wright's early membership of the TROGGS. Troggs' drummer Ronnie Bonds produced their first single: "She's a winner". Although the band failed to have commercial impact they recorded a number of strong tracks for Page One Records that, probably due to the strong competition at the time, failed to achieve more than moderate success. Magi - Win Or Lose. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD152)

This north Indiana outfit ruled the roost in the "Michiana" region in the mid-'70s, attracting huge crowds whenever they played live. Often compared with Led Zeppelin, this 5-piece outfit rocked the area with a tight and raw sound that combined in-your-face hard rock with undisguised psychedelic tendencies and lashings of fuzz. It must be said the boys didn't do themselves any favours by issuing their only known album with a cover reminiscent of a Journey photo shoot (THERE'S NOWT WRONG WI' JOURNEY!!- AOR loving Freak Writer), but regardless of their dubious hair and sense of dress, Magi certainly deserved more than the obscurity into which they ultimately lapsed. Recorded in Michigan in 1976, it boasts a series of solid songs propelled by a tight rhythm section and some more-thanrespectable vocals, in another place or time this band could have been huge. As it is, we only have this one incredibly rare album to judge them by, but based on the evidence, Magi definitely receives an unqualified thumbs-up. Highly recommended.NOW DELETED LAST 3 COPIES.

Magical Power Mako - Super Record. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD141)

Of all Japanese recordings this 1975 release is considered by those that know it, to be one of the finest, combining as it does strong elements of Japanese folk music alongside innovative psychedelic sounds and broad musical vistas of extraordinary imagination. Imagine an eastern-tinged, psychedelic instrumental version of Fresh Maggots. Mako’s music has often baffled pundits keen to place him in a particular musical slot. As one perplexed scribe opined, "Mako’s music possesses a certain strange kind of texture". It is certainly what they call rock, but contains elements we can’t describe so succinctly. It clearly goes beyond the various genres of music and while full of them all, it sends forth a fierce glow. This is a crucial document of underground Japanese psychedelia. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST 3 COPIES.

Major Arcana - Major Arcana. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD149)

Major Arcana's self-titled release from 1976 which appeared on the modestly-named A Major Label. This is an album that defies categorization, featuring as it does a veritable smorgasbord of musical styles, although the phenomenal opening track, Western Wind, is rightly regarded as an acid folk/psych masterpiece. The band, augmented by the presence of Spencer's previous collaborator and Bloomsbury People alumnist, keyboard player and flautist Sigmund Snopek III, combine effortlessly to produce an album of changing moods, with strong, up-front vocals, neat synth arrangements and a recurring lounge/multi-instrumental vibe. There's even an acidhead arrangement of Henry VIII's only known chart success, Green sleeves. One critic described the album thus: "West coast psychedelic gem, with nice folky tunes, dreamy stoned vibe and some killer acid guitar outbursts. Really great psych music you can easily imagine from the awesome cover art!". Another overlooked album that comes highly recommended.

Marshall Brothers Band - Marshall Brothers Band. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD115)

Fascinating album from the Australian classical rock combo, which appeared on the M7 label in 1975. The band, which perversely didn't include a single member bearing the name of Marshall, were clearly influenced by the likes of Rick Wakeman, Genesis and Yes, and actually lived, along with producer Chris Neal, in Sydney's Trafalgar studios for 8 days while the album was being recorded, thus, according to the album's liner notes "allowing aspects of discussion and discovery seldom, if ever, equalled in an Australian production". Clearly the tactic worked as the album spent eight weeks in the Australian charts, success which earned the band a serious musical reputation. The eponymous album boasts 8 well-crafted self-penned tracks of superior prog rock with the use of moogs , sitars, Hammonds, synths etc, well recorded and beautifully delivered. The Mascots supported the Who, Chuck Berry, the Moody Blues, the Hollies, P J Proby and the Dave Clark Five, as well as appearing in movies, making guest appearances on TV programs for young people, and recording soundtracks. This is a great album. The influences are there for all to hear as was the case with most of the European bands of the time...but Garage/Psych it was and still is. The Beatles do still spring to mind but that's just the start of it. Truly essential.

Maypole - Maypole (The Riff). CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD114)

This 1970 US eponymous effort from Baltimore outfit Maypole mixes psych with heavy rock and adds some prog sub-themes to leaven the mix. Full of interesting ideas and some fabulous Hendrix-inspired lead guitar from founder Dennis Tobell, this album of original compositions was recorded at New York's A&R Studios by Pat Perticone. The band's name came from a Maypole erected in New England in defiance of Puritan laws designed to stifle life in 17th century America, and the album's lengthy liner notes, contain the group's "mission statement". "Maypole intends to combine the techniques of literature in lyrics and structure with the feeling generated by our music to communicate the "real" to an unlimited audience". Given that the album is famous for being rare, clearly the band's desire to reach an "unlimited audience" was not achieved, which is unfortunate as the record is well recorded, musically interesting and reminiscent of other heavy psych outfits such as Bubble Puppy, Ill Wind and Neighbourhood Childr'n.Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST FEW COPIES.

Mike Furber & The Bowery Boys - Just A Poor Boy. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD147)

The story of Mike Furber's tragically brief tenure in the music business reads like a typical cautionary tale. Furber, born in London in 1948, emigrated to Australia in the '50s. A chance meeting in 1965 with two members of the fledgling garage band, The Bowery Boys, resulted in Furber joining the group as singer. The group became Mike Furber And The Bowery Boys. This was the band's first and only album. which, despite the patronage of Barry Gibb, failed to materialise. In October ' 67, Furber released what many believed to be his finest single, Bring Your Love Back Home, but the record-buying public did not agree. The irony of this sorry little saga is that The Bowery Boys themselves were an extremely tight and accomplished band which, had it not been overshadowed by Furber, would undoubtedly have gone on to greater things, as this superb album amply attests. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST FEW COPIES.

Moonstone - Moonstone. CD, £13 (Radioactive - RRCD170)

Our intrepid journey to find the most unusual and interesting musical gems from the past touches down this time in Alaska to unearth this eponymous 1973 album by dreamy folk outfit Moonstone, and what a discovery this is! Privately released on the obscure Kot’ai label , the album features predominantly female vocals and crystal clear male-female harmony singing. Imagine the meeting of U.S. West Coast acoustic songwriting and esoteric U.K. folk from the early 70’s. This is it! Intimate, compelling...magical! The songs really are exquisite. Musical accompaniment minimum. Only acoustic guitar features throughout, with piano and flute occasionally. There’s the hint of a gentle electric guitar in there too, but it’s those intricate, ethereal vocal harmonies that draw the listener. Those who enjoy late night/early morning listening, Linda Perhacs,C S N Y, Trader Horne, and 70’s folk music in general...This is for you.Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LASTCOPY.

Original copies of this incredible album by Mushroom, the Dublin duo consisting of Pat Collins (violin) and Joe O'Donnell (everything else), fetch hundreds of pounds on the rare occasions that they actually come up for sale. Musically, Early One Morning, originally released in 1973 on the Hawk label (HALPX 116) is a real one off, combining rock and psychedelic Irish folk, with tasty guitar leads battling with fiddle attacks. The results are awesome, fully justifying the hefty price tag of an original. A monster of an album!!!Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST THREE COPIES.

Music Box - Songs Of Sunshine. CD, £4.5 (Radioactive - RRCD162)

On first hearing Songs of Sunshine by British outfit Music Box, you could be forgiven for thinking of it as an album out of its time when it originally appeared in 1972 on the obscure Westwood label. Wasn’t this the era of volume & arenas? Echoes of the mid ‘60s folk rock boom, and whimsical lyrics with a twist of Dylan ("Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues" is the only non-original song on the album) were perhaps at odds with the sounds of that era. Whatever the reasoning, the album quickly disappeared... Shame. Here is an album about a more intimate, predominantly acoustic music: flutes, chimes, and gentle organ sounds. It spins tales of faraway lands, sand, sea, castles, kings, queens and even Peter Pan. Bet you thought only Donovan made ‘em like that? Songs of Sunshine is incense & innocence, folk rock ‘n’flowers! Well played, tastily arranged...and overlooked.

Hailing from San Francisco Bay Area, this private pressing is this band's only foray into the market place with only about 150 copies pressed.Released in 1973 and only in Canada this album sounds like the West Coast scene mixed with Allman's country styled guitars, and CSN harmony song structures and a female joint lead vocalist with a pitch to die for. From 1975 this mysterious and underrated US psych album has plenty to offer. Obviously influenced by The Doors - particularly Jimbo's vocal inflections, the guitar work on this album is particularly noteworthy. Orphan Egg - Orphan Egg. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD146)

Orphan Egg’s only release, this self-titled album which appeared on the Carole label in 1968, seems to have suddenly attracted the interest of serious psych fans and collectors: the price of an original has recently increased considerably, probably in recognition of both its scarcity value and musical appeal. The album, which also boasts some strong UK beat/psych influences a la early Status Quo, features lashings of incredible heavy fuzz guitar psych on a number of tracks, several of which were deemed worthy enough to feature in director Maury Dexter’s exploitation flick, Born Wild- aka The Young Animals- (which also included a memorable scene of the band strutting their musical stuff at a pool party) The album features several covers including a killer version of the old Everly Brothers ’ hit, Bird Dog. Apart from this, the self-penned tunes really are the stand-outs here, with the feisty fuzz guitar, bass, drums, a little recorder and a smattering of harpsichord, combining, along with the beautiful trippy vocals, to produce an ethereal, floating psych sound that makes for a hugely enjoyable listen. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST 3 COPIES.

Peter Grudzien - The Unicorn. CD, £11 (Radioactive - RRCD167)

New Yorker Peter Grudzien grew up in the ‘50s listening to Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and other country music artists. By the 60s he was writing and recording his own country styled tunes and had added rising star Bob Dylan to his list of performers to aspire to.Comprising a selection of lo-fi home recordings made over several years (the earliest being from 1960), The Unicorn has songs of religious visions and redemption, life’s struggles, and tales of romance gone wrong (brief references are made to Grudzien’s own gay affairs, he 'came out' in song in the ‘60s). Predominantly rooted in country and bluegrass picking, the music also features electronic experiments, and borrows a few 'classic' tunes here and there in an early attempt at sampling. 'Intense', 'claustrophobic', 'eccentric', 'challenging', 'overwhelming' but above all, 'honest'- these are all words that have been used to describe this album. You can add ‘unique’ too..For all those who prefer their country music with a twist. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST COPY OF THIS DELETED CD.

Peter Stark - Mushroom Country. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD098)

This private pressing has become an extremely collectable album of late due to it's "cosmic folk" groove and it's ultimate, phallic-psychedelic mushroom sleeve art. Recorded at The Mike studio in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the album appeared on the Montage label in 1976. The album features 8 original works by Stark and his brother Ben, and a particularly fine cover of Donovan's "Hey Gyp". Musically, the album takes us on a tour of genres, from the instrumental "Raga For Bayleaf", the folky "You Make Me Feel" and the blues of "Searching". There is a real charm about Mushroom Country, with its varied instrumental accompaniment to Stark's vocals and fluid guitar and a "we're having a great time doing this" vibe that pervades throughout. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST FOUR COPIES.

Australian psych/prog band's second album originally released on Harvest Records in 1972. With it's unforgettable artwork, this album featured some exceptionally strong Aussie prog rock, blending as it did some fine instrumentals, lots of fuzz guitars and flowing Hammond organ. Polyphony - Without Introduction. CD, £5.4 (Radioactive - RRCD117)

Jaw-dropping album from one the US's earliest progressive rock bands. It is safe to say that dumping an innovative product such as this on an unsuspecting audience, even back in 1972, baffled most listeners. Their music is dominated by heavy Hammond and a penchant for surrealistic lyrics and off-center vocals.Try to imagine a band who, upon hearing ELP's Tarkus for the first time, indulged in heavy amounts of mescaline and dropped by the studio. With that I think you have a vague idea of what this seminal progressive act from America were all about. Is it progressive or psychedelic? The answer is both. Primevil - Smokin' Bats At Camptons. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD164)

Originally a private and limited vinyl release in 1974 on the 700 West label (same label as Zerfas) stands as a fine example of ‘70s hard rock.Based in Indiana. The overall sound is bluesy hard rock with a twin guitar attack, very much in the style of Zeppelin and Black Widow, although in recent years they have also appealed to psychedelic collectors willing to pay up to $100 for a copy of the album! Highlights include the opening track "Leavin", "Progress", and the now legendary (some say insane) Hey Lover, allegedly written and recorded in one wild night! Purple Image - Purple Image. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD041)

The African American band's eponymous and only album merged a strong blend of soul funk and psych rock to considerable effect much like the first three Funkadelic albums. Released in 1970 on the obscure Map City label (also home to Yesterdays Children) Cleveland-based Purple Image sadly managed only this lone effort. It's clever use of fuzz and wah-wah guitar demonstrates a clear Hendrix influence, as does the second side's final track, Marching To A Different Drummer, a 15 -minute guitar jam extravaganza. The overall sound is tight and driving, making for a truly excellent album which also features some really nice cover art.Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST COPY.

Rain - Live, Christmas Night. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD110)

Another custom-pressed rarity to delight and amaze, this time from the New York outfit, Rain which appeared in 1971 on the Whazoo label (USR3046). So rare that even average copies are fetching up to $500. The lads assembled a cohort of their chums, clearly awash with Christmas spirit, to cheer them through a selection of Stones (and other's) covers. As one Rain devotee recently enthused, "Anyone for this one helluva rawkin' gem! These guys sound like the Rolling Stones on crack. The vocalist has Jagger down to a T, the only real difference here...they really do turn the amps up to 11. But as for the music....it's jammy and twice as better [sic] than anything the Stones could ever conjure". So there you have it. Ignore this album at your peril! For an album that's becoming a minor collectable, remarkably little is known about Rainbow Press. This the first album itself is excellent late '60s U.S. soft rock with more than just a touch of psychedelia about it. The ten well-crafted songs are all original, and are delivered smoothly by a tight 6-piece band dominated by Groff's superb vocals. The album's name and the eponymous track are as close as we get to political posturing, which is a great relief as the lack of prosletising let's the strength of the song writing and the band's performance shine through. There are loads of tight vocal harmonies, and plenty of fuzz guitar liberally dispensed throughout this polished and very enjoyable record. Highly recommended.LAST 4 COPIES OF THIS NOW DELETED CD

Relatively Clean Rivers - Relatively Clean Rivers. LP, £11 (Radioactive - RRLP 20)

Gatefold vinyl version of this album from former Beat Of The Earth leader Phil Pearlman who assembled this band in the early 70's. This is their sole and very rare album from 1975, and it's a long lost classic of US psychedelia. An overall rural West Coast vibe permeates an album that's filled with melodic rural songs, eastern jams, delicate drifting electric and acoustic instrumentals and backwards and electronic effects. Somewhere close to American Beauty era Grateful Dead, but with an added dose of New Tweedy Brothers styled fuzz and garage psych electronic experimentation, this is a release that deserves a listen by any serious US '60's psychedelic rock fan.Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST 10 COPIES.

Rising Sun - Born To Be Wild. CD, £4 (Radioactive - RRCD092)

This is this band's sole recorded effort, ( complete with fabulously-cheesy cover) which duly appeared on Birchmount records in 1969. Although the band chose a covered track as the album's title, many of the dozen tracks on this album are self-penned and most of them are pretty good, and the band covers Steppenwolf's opus major effortlessly, but the garage-punk vibe of the first side of the record gives way to a more jazzy sound a la Blood Sweat And Tears on side 2 with plenty of horns in evidence. Could David Clayton Thomas, himself a Toronto resident at the time, have played a part in the proceedings? The only thing we know for sure it that this rare album is becoming increasingly sought-after by collectors. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.

Rock Shop - Rock Shop (Mr Lee's Swingin' Affair). CD, £4 (Radioactive - RRCD080)

Hailing from California, they became one of the most popular bands in the area, playing regularly at Mr Lee's Swingin' Affair nightclub in West Covina to packed houses. The band's one and only album, featured 12 self-penned tracks of fuzz-led blues and psych, as well as boasting a spoof cover depicting the band as the next Beatles and hairdresser-cum-rock promoter Mr Lee as God! Despite enjoying a minor level of success including supporting both the Shirelles and Big Joe Turner, the band called it a day in 1969, leaving this lone recording as their epitaph. This extremely rare album has a strong mix of late '60s sounds that, given the high musical standard and excellent recording quality, still stand up amazingly well today. Highly recommended. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST 7 COPIES.

Rod St. James - Has Anybody Seen The Superstar. CD, £4.5 (Radioactive - RRCD135)

A superb slice of the swinging 70's as seen through Rod St. James. Originally released on the Paula label in 1972 the album is a great example of years gone by lost in aging summer sands with flares and sunglasses to match. Contains some greast heavy guitar work, funky percussion, trippy organ and laid back hippie vocals. The album by the end of the second side showcases a more 'folky' feel. Sage - Sage By Sage. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD081)

Incredibly rare album of pysche and southern rock from this Miami outfit. Originally released on the Illusion label in 1970, the history of this album is steeped in mystery and not much is known about either the band or the labe. Some believe the label was set up as a tax scam and that all Sage albums were either given away or destroyed upon release! True or not, what is known is that this album is ridiculously rare and the sight of an original copy has been known to make even the most hardened collector go blind. There is a strong boogie feel to the instrumentation on the album, similar to the "Allman Brothers", and the songs are reminiscent of, among others, "Dr Hook" or the "Sutherland Brothers". Don't miss it this time round, it may be the last! Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST TWO COPIES.

Shaggs - Wink. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD079)

Recorded in 1967 in Chicago, this one and only offering by the five-piece preppy outfit from Indiana, with its multi-part vocal harmonies and jangly guitar, and could have easily have appeared in 1965 or '66. The 12 well recorded tracks (10 covers and 2 originals) were laid down in a single 20-hour session, although the claim that this feat was "probably recording history" is surely born more out of youthful hyperbole than solid fact! However, there is no doubting the band's musical proficiency as they canter through a selection of songs by such luminaries as the Stones, Who, Beau Brummels, Byrds and Them, with the high point being an inspired version of "If I Were A Carpenter"

Known mainly for their sole 1971 Neon album UK band Shape Of The Rain actually formed in 1966. This CD of unreleased material covers the years 1966 to 1975. Shiva's Headband - Take Me To The Mountains. CD, £12 (Radioactive - RRCD131)

Led by Violin virtuoso Spencer Perskin (who prior to the band performed as a solo artist on the folk circuit) Shiva's Headband were a kind of rural hippy, psychedelic rock band mixing blues folk and country with an acid fried contempt for red neck society. They performed on the same psychedelic stages as The 13th Floor Elevators and the Conqueroo. Originally released in 1969 on Capitol this album is very much in the late 60's early 70's rural rock vein with flashes of the earlier psychedelic sound particularly evident on the re-working of the bands pre-album singles "Songs For Peace" and "Kaleidoscoptic".LAST COPY OF THIS NOW DELETED RADIOACTIVE CD

Sidetrack - Baby. CD, £12 (Radioactive - RRCD154)

The band's only known recorded effort, this 1969 demo album originally appeared in a blank sleeve with the album’s labels glued to the cover! The story is that this is a demo pressing for an intended Elektra release that never happened, although with its classy, late ‘60s baroque pop/folk style, could have been an album of some significance. Sidetrack managed to combine oddball but accessible pop with far out experimentation and a distinctive keyboard sound (most songs have no guitars at all) courtesy of various permutations of piano, organ, harpsichord and harmonium . The production is crisp, clear and supremely professional, the musicianship, including the up-front bass playing, is never less than exemplary and the songs, always veering towards the eclectic rather than the predictable, are acontinuous source of interest. This album is something pretty special: a recording that makes one regret Elektra’s lack of foresight in not making it commercially available as well as the opportunity to develop Sidetrack’s considerable potential which slipped through the label’s fingers. But it's here now!!! Miss at your peril. Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST TWO COPIES.

Snakegrinder - And The Shredded Field Mice. CD, £5 (Radioactive - RRCD102)

A real stunner from this rural rock outfit from Delaware whose only album was this 1977 private pressing. The album features seven original compositions combining acoustic, electric and pedal steel guitars augmented by some tasty keyboards. There's loads of blistering, well-structured guitar jams, and a few Band-style rural funk vocals, with a of hippy psych interludes thrown in for good measure. The sound is unique, cool and beautifully played. The album rocks from start to finish, and is another one of those obscure rarities that should have enjoyed significant commercial success and those fortunate enough to have heard Snakegrinder are unanimous in their praise..Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST FEW COPIES.

Snow - Snow. CD, £12 (Radioactive - RRCD056)

Radioactive bring us the first re-issue of this album in 30 years. A jewel amongst major label US psych pop collectors, the sole eponymous release from the Cleveland outfit Snow kicks off with a touch of folk-pysch before building into a melodic tapestry of short incisive guitar solos, multi layered harmonies, assorted effects and clever tempo shifts. It closes with the brazenly experimental 3 minute "Caterpillar" which stands proud next to any 'experimental' sounds from the 1968 period.LAST COPY OF THIS NOW DELETED TITLE.

Stained Glass - Aurora. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD125)

Second, and regarded by some as the better, of the two albums that the band recorded for Capitol in the late '60s. Formed in 1966, Stained Glass began life as a Beatles cover band and then mutated into a pop psych rock outfit with Quicksilver Messenger Service leanings. They performed in and around their native San Jose until an A & R man from RCA signed them to the label later that year. Vocalist/bass player Jim McPherson would go on to form Copperhead with John Cippolina after this final Stained Glass Release which had a stoned, more jamming feel than the previous album. Stained Glass Window - Stained Glass Window. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD175)

Soothing ,comforting album from 1975 by the U.S. singer songwriter Bob Raine, originally on small Chicago private label called Sycamore.Written completely by Bob this album shows his feelings of love, spirit, and the spoken words left behind as guides for us through these and future times. Two years in the making this album has so much warmth and feeling flowing from the grooves.Check out the opening cut "To The Night Sky From A Summers Meadow" and you will be hooked into this guys voice and gentle guitar picked melodies, while "The Man With The Buttons" hints at Neil Young’s "Sugar Mountain" and "After All Has Been Drawn" hints at Zeppelin’s "Misty Mountain Hop". We cannot recommend this album highly enough. Every track is strong. It is well conceived and performed and there is enough diversity to keep interest throughout.

Stalk Forrest Group - St. Cecilia. LP, £13 (Radioactive - RRLP019)

180 gram vinyl re-issue of this album recorded in 1970 by a five-piece band from N.Y. inexplicably changed its name from Soft White Underbelly to Stalk-Forrest Group and made the journey to L.A. and the offices of Elektra Records, then riding high with their two rock-psych bands Love and the Doors. It is believed that Elektra viewed the band as a potential East Coast Doors, and got them into the studio to record an album's worth of psychedelic tunes, rich in high harmonies and fluid, guitar interplay and trippy lyrics, under the watchful eyes of the co-production team Sandy Pearlman and Jay Lee. Elektra promptly dropped the band, but not before releasing a paltry 200 copies of a single taken from the unreleased album session. Obviously not deterred by this setback, the band promptly changed its name to Blue Oyster Cult, signed for Columbia and retuned its musical style to heavy rock. The rest, as they say, is history! Now a sadly deleted Radioactive title.LAST COPY AND NUMBERED OF THIS DELETED GEM.

Starfire - Starfire. CD, £3.6 (Radioactive - RRCD137)

Another gem that fell through the floor boards of time is this Prog Psych monster of an album by the little known Starfire. On pouring over research information we have been able to confirm that his band hailed from sunny California and recorded this album (probably their one and only release ) in 1974. Originally released on the Crimson Records label as a private pressing of no more than 200 copies it is almost impossible to track down an original of this immensely collectable album. To demand the tag "Prog Psych Monster" we have a liberal dose of spooky swirling organ and fuzz guitars. Starfire sounds very much like Thunder Pussy but a bit more rockin'!!!

Sought after and rare high energy heavy acid rock from Japan originally released in 1971. Originally a private pressing(500 copies) from the '70s,which is a charming chunk of rural rock from Florida. This four-piece managed to produce an album of high originality which defies categorisation. From the rock'n'roll opening track, and the album's two standout tracks, "Season For Love" (reminiscent of Neil Young's Southern Man) and "The Garden", this is a record of real depth and intelligence. 'Rural rock' covers just about everything you'll find here, from rock'n'roll to the blues and plain ol' country rock in the style of The Outlaws or Pure Prairie League.LAST TWO COPIES OF THIS DELETED RADIOACTIVE TITLE.

Sum Pear - Sum Pear. CD, £9 (Radioactive - RRCD067)

Freshly excavated from the depths of obscurity this is the one and only album from singer-song writing duo Sonny Hahn and Doug Miller and it’s somewhat of an undiscovered gem as well. Originally released in 1971 on the Jubilee Group's "Euphoria" label (EST1) this quirky album mixes some fine eccentric British style psych with some outstanding heavy fuzz, particularly on the great "Hey Sun". The thoughtful lyrics deal with serious concerns (Vietnam, drugs etc..) and the guitar work is exemplory. Filled with dreamy and melodic harmonies and wistful vocals this little slice of pysch should remain unheard no longer. A treat and now available on CD for the first time.
