HELP : TECHNICAL INFORMATION AND REQUIREMENTS : INFORMATION ON COOKIES
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that sits in a special folder on your computer, that allows web sites to store personal information such as usernames etc. Cookies are secure in that only a tiny amount of information can be stored in each, and a cookie is only accessible by the same web site that set it.
Why Do I Need Cookies?
This site uses cookies for two purposes:
1. To store your log-in details. This allows each page to know who you are, thus allowing your contact information or wish list to be accessable to you and you alone. This cookie is deleted automatically when you either log out, or close your browser.
2. To store your order. Your 'shopping basket' is stored in a cookie on your computer until you go to the checkout. At this point the order is transferred to our server for processing, and the cookie is deleted. The cookie is also deleted when you close your browser.
Why won't my browser accept cookies?
Some browsers allow you to turn off cookies, or set your browser to prompt you before accepting them. If cookies are disabled, this site will not work and the result will be that you cannot view your wish list, or add items to your shopping basket.
How To Enable Cookies on your browser.
Cookies can be turned on in Internet Explorer by going first to 'Tools' in the top menu bar, and then to Internet Options - Security - Custom Level. In Netscape Navigator cookies can be turned on in the preferences menu - under edit or view.
Are our cookies really secure?
In a word - yes. Firstly, no other site can access a cookie set by this site, and this site cannot access a cookie set by another site. Secondly, we don't store any information that is of any use to anybody else in our cookies. This site only stores your username (so we know who you are when you come to check out) and your actual order - as a string of numbers that our site converts to your order when it is submitted.
